Freedom of speech has its limits when you are in the workplace. How many of us could go to work and call a coworker such a name, get into a fight with another coworker that resulted in someone being choked and cause other issues on the job site and be kept on as an employee. If he wanted to call TR the F work outside of work, that is called freedom of speech. At work, there is no such thing, actor, celebrity, or whatnot. He should be held to the same standard as any other employee would be. And if him being around is causing problems for everyone else on set, why should they all have to be put through that turmoil just for him to remain there? I will definitely miss Burke, the character, but actors should be held to the same accontability as anyone else, and Isaiah W. messed up, therefore he is paying the price.

I really like Isiah Washington as an actor. I hope we will see him return or find another "main charactor" position on another top series. Suggestions include but not limited to, Boston Legal, The Closer, Rescue Me, E.R.,or Desperate Houswives, after all on D.P. there are no African American couples on the show.

From what a lot of people say, the TR thing was just the last straw in a lot of problems Isiah had with a lot of the cast on the show.

He can't really sue, shows can fire actors for almost any reason really. Just ask Shannan Daughtery :)

I totally think that Burke leaving was the worst possible thing that the show could ever do. Just because he used a slur towards T.R. should not get him fired. I mean there is freedom of speech. He publically apologized and even did an public service announcement for GLAAD. This is really extreme and I sincely hope that he sues the show for wrongful termination.

Go read Shonda's writers blog on abc.com. SHe explains that she tore all the characters to the ground this season (burned them down like a house) so that she could give some if not all new beginnings and such it has a great explaination and sort of has a little insight to burke leaving... i am greatly disappointed that the character won't be returning next season. i understand that name calling like that shouldn't be tolerated but come on... didn't we learn in like 5th grade that phrase "i'm rubber and you're glue..." i think washington should have been able to stay on a probationary period...

Why would you say anything about his being a minority? What does that have to do with anything?

Serves him right in my opinion. You should never use words the way he did. If he thought that, he should have kept it to himself. "Burke" will be missed, but Isaiah will not. Himself being a minority, he should have thought before speaking.

I'll miss Burke too. I enjoyed his character on the show and now who is going to have the only semi-stable relationship on Grey's? This is entirely aside from his personal life on the set.

I think ABC has made a grievous error not renewing Isaiah's contract. The integrity of the show is at stake, and I can only hope that there wasn't any pressure from the brass laid upon Shonda to make what I can only describe as a bonehaed decision. Good luck, Grey's.

I can live without Mr. Arrogant.
We were discussing this at the office today. My co-worker thought he was one of the best characters. But he got me to thinking...

Burke basically only wanted Christina when she was a challenge -- someone to bend to his wishes.
She never wanted to get married, but he did. So she went along with it. Just like she never really wanted to live together. But the minute she finally squelches all of her desires to do what he wants instead, he dumps her. How lame.

I think the only purpose he served was to show Christina that she does have a heart and that maybe she will want more out of life. But at least he won't be around distracting her anymore.

Good riddance!
