Betty’s Back! Ugly Betty Premier Thoughts

Betty’s Back! Ugly Betty Premier Thoughts

So first up, let’s talk about the elephant in the room, which would be Santos. Through the whole episode it seemed Santos was still alive and survived. I had the stinking feeling something was stinking. I knew it was just too good to be true, and in the end, it was all in poor Hilda’s head. Santos is still dead 🙁

Next up is Amanda, who has developed a candy addiction and has put on some pounds. She’s depressed because of finding who her mom really is. With pushing from Mark she confronted her parents, only to learn they were swingers and with another couple! Too funny! Anyway not only is Fay Summers her mom, her dad is unknown and she was adopted. Dum dum dum dum . . . . . We can see where this is going, yep she’s a Mead! She’s running a DNA test to find out for sure, but as she put it, she slept with her brother . . . . a lot!

Over to Wilamena, who is preparing for her wedding to Bradford. Unfortunately Claire remains a thorn in her side and isn’t going to let her get her husband or her magazine.

Then there is Henry and Betty. It seemed they were doomed, and Daniel convinced her that she need to have a symbolic burial and bury those momentos from their relationship to put him behind her. She did, and then Daniel, still recovering from his accident last season, admitted to her that the accident happened because he was high. He had still been abusing pain meds while recovering in the hospital, so he buried his pills. Both decided they needed a fresh start.

Betty’s nephew Justin scored an internship at Mode, so it looks like we’ll get to see a lot more of him this season. Love him!

Finally the cliffhanger endings . . . Henry came back to New York . . . . and Alexis, whose been in a coma, woke up and thinks she’s still Alex! Oh dear! I can’t wait to see where they take this one.

  2. To answer your questions, smoore: Santos is Justin’s real father or shall I say was. Santos was shot in a convenience store.

I was so happy with the premiere tonight! It’s definitely leaving me wanting more!

  3. It was just cruel and unusual the way they toyed with out emotions concerning Santos! At first I thought it was absurd and lessened the emotional impact of the finale, but then I was so happy he was still alive that I got over it.

Then, during the final moments, he’s dead again. It was really had to swallow and very depressing. At the same time, it was…eh. Shouldn’t Justin be a little more upset if Santos really is dead? Iunno..

The rest of the episode was okay. Not great, but okay. Could’ve used a little bit more Mark. ^_~

The Alexis/Alex thing should be interesting. I wonder how they will spin it though – Alex always wanted to be a woman, so there shouldn’t be MUCH of a shock. They might change that though…make him wish he hadn’t done it and such. Should be interesting.

  4. I agree: It was truly cruel to make it seem like Santos survived the shooting. I know the actor has another series he is working on but couldn’t he have figured out how to be a bit player every now and then? When I saw him onscreen, I was just so happy. Then, it was just ripped away. He was a character who had started off as a tool that was really evolving and becoming an integral part of the show.
I do also agree it was weird that Justin seemed so non-plused after his dad died but I guess he wasn’t that big of a part of his life. They were really just getting to know each other. Plus, I guess Justin probably felt more comfortable throwing himself into the world of high fashion than dealing with his reality. That is his gig.
Overall, I loved this episode. Betty is one of my favorite shows on air right now and I think they have handled the loose ends really well – except for Santos. Damn them!

  5. I hate to say it, but outside of Betty’s actual family I found very little interest in season 2’s primier. To be honest I think Ugly Betty just killed one of the best storylines when they killed Santo’s. Hilda and Santos were really beautiful together in a really realistic way. I don’t care for this Henry returning either. I mean he left Betty b/c his girlfriend was pregnant? If he really loved Betty he would have stayed and made sure his ex-girl friend knew he’d be there for his child, but that’s it. 9 months from now then he could be there.
I always skip the Alex stuff b/c it’s disappointing. It would have been better if Alex turned out to be Fey. Or Fey faking as Alex/Alexis to torture Bradford. Now that’s a story. I’m not sure the point of the storyline except it’s bad ABC drama. I sort of like the Mother & Wili angle, that has potential with Bradford in the center. Amanda I can take it or leave it. I don’t really care who her father is, but she and the guy are always good comedy if you want to laugh at stupidity. Her parents seemed unlike her parents. Freaky, creepy and too nice to have raised such a bad seed. It didn’t add up.
Betty and Daniel scenes are always priceless. I love the way he found Betty, his funeral ideal. Give it two more seasons and I think Daniel will discover he’s falling for his wonderful unfashionable assistant.
The season premier was okay, but except for Betty and Daniel moments I’ll be flipping to something else.

  6. I Love UB and was so sad about Santo but it did make for great TV. I think that Justin was not shown as broken up because quite some time had passed since Santo had died. I’ll defiantly keep watching

  7. I disagree that Henry did the wrong thing in going with his pregnant ex. Children are more important than girlfriends who you aren’t even really dating yet. Because she was moving so far away, he would not have a relationship with his child if he didn’t move too and I will never fault a man for wanting a relationship with his child.

  8. I think they had to get Santo out of the way to bring back the guy that was massaging Hilda’s feet in Guatemala – the one who made the call that the Dad was back in town. My guess is he’ll happen to get back into Hilda’s life in order to get closer to Dadddy. Just a thought.

  9. Sorry I think that should be Guadelahara (sp?) not Guatemala. Either way I’m trying to say the guy (Antonio?) that was massaging Hilda’s feet in Mexico.
