Ghost Whisperer Premier! Plus Moonlight Thoughts

Ghost Whisperer Premier! Plus Moonlight Thoughts

So last night was the season premier of “Ghost Whisperer.” I liked it, but it seemed a bit disconnected from last seasons finale. For starters, I got the impression at the end of last season that Melinda’s father was somehow evil and therefore spawned Gabriel, who was evil. In this premier it seems like Melinda’s father was good and he left to protect her from something almost. I didn’t get it. Also Melinda’s mom claims she doesn’t have another child and Melinda doesn’t have a brother as far as she knows. We know her mother is a big fat liar, so is she lying, or did Gabriel come from the father after he left them? As one of you commented, Melinda’s powers seem to come from her mom and grandma, not her father as far as we know.

Also what was up with the professor in this episode? I got the impression he is in love with Melinda based on a little talk he was prepping to give her, about how there were so many things he wanted to say to her and didn’t think he’d get the chance when he thought she had died. Please don’t go there, I love Melinda and her husband’s relationship!

Melinda found out her family lived in Grandview for a few years before moving, her mother tries to warn her to leave the town, as if she knew something bad was going to happen. The ghost in this episode felt the whole underground of Grandview was somehow haunted. Then, in researching this episode, Melinda got warnings from some very angry ghosts who told her not to stick her nose into things. What is going on? Is Grandview ghost central or something?

Finally, we got introduced to some blogger college kid who snapped a photo of Melinda with a ghost in the background. Uh oh! He won’t let it go either, even though Melinda and the professor told him it was nothing. It seems someones out to expose Melinda this season!

After “Ghost Whisperer” was the new show “Moonlight,” which is about a vampire PI. I watched it and was entertained, but I think I need to see a few more episodes before I make up my mind. Given nothing is on Friday nights after GW, I’ll keep tuning in. For some reason though the promos at the end highlighting the love story between the Vampire and the girl made me think of “Beauty and the Beast.”

  1. I believe the guy in the picture is Melinda’s father, who is trapped underground. There is definitely more to Melinda’s family – especially her mother and father. Her mother has some demons in the closet that she doesn’t want out. I have a feeling that Melinda’s dad had an affair with another woman with the result of Gabriel. And that is why Melinda’s mother won’t tell secrets or any truths. I also think Melinda’s father and mother could see the dead, but some how it makes it look like at some time that Melinda’s father could be helping Gabriel block the light.

  2. I started to watch Moonlight and got disinterested. I decided I don’t have to watch it.

  3. Or there is another possibility that has occurred to me. What if the mother had the affair, and Melinda’s father took the child as some sort of punishment.

Though the idea that both parents could see the dead, could explain why they effect Melinda so deeply. And why she is so driven to help them. Though I have always gotten the impression form Melinda’s memories that it was the grand mother who guided her.

Though I am more and more going with the twin angle. That Melinda’s mom had twins, and didnt realize it. Something lead the father to that child, and he used the child for some reason.

There was a short lived series called “The Sentinal” with a college kid helping the main character. Could it be that they are aware that the professsor being obessessed with Melinda is a bad thing and be setting up a new aid for her?

Moonlight. I kinda liked it. I kinda didnt. It did not have a finished feeling to it. AKA it felt more like we were seeing a low cost reel of a “if you give me more money, I can make this one wonderful show”.

I think there is something to the show, but weather it will catch on the audience it needs I dont know. I hope so, but I suspect it is far more of a syndicated hit then a big network hit.

  5. My issue with Moonlight was that it’s basically every vampire movie/TV show ever made all wrapped in one. The opening scene was definitely from Interview with a Vampire. Lifetime’s BloodTies is better. The female non-vampire is actually the PI and the vampire helps her out. They have GREAT chemistry. I just didn’t feel it on this one. But I’ll probably watch a few more to see how it turns out.

  6. Am I the only one who is thinking that Gabriel ISN’T Melinda’s brother? I think it’s someone else completely. And as for the professor I almost took it as though he was trying to talk to his dead wife. Not Melinda. I also thought that the trapped underground thing was just referring to the ghost from that episode, not her father.
