American Idol 7: Top 24 Show Thoughts

American Idol 7: Top 24 Show Thoughts

So I watched both the men and the women perform on AI. At this point I can honestly say without 1) taking notes throughout the shows or 2) going onto the AI site to watch recaps, I’m not going to remember all these people’s names and what they sang. As the season goes on, I see them more and more and of course the cast gets whittled down, it will be much easier to remember people. I’m not there yet.

With that said, these are my initial thoughts on the shows. First, I have to wonder how much of a hand AI had in influencing the song choices. The men’s choices, for the most part, were just terrible! They had such good pop, rock and psychedelic rock songs to pick from and most of them chose crooner songs. Honestly, am I supposed to believe one of these kids decided to sing a Neil Sedaka song? The men’s night at least ended on a high note with someone choosing The Doors!

The women overall sounded better and made much better choices. The singing nurse continues to stand out for me with the women, because she has such a smokey and unique voice. I was glad she didn’t go for Janice last night, but wasn’t overly thrilled with her song choice. Too much skat and repetition of one line. Again how much did AI steer these song choices? Clearly they will be doing a Motown show again at some point, because I don’t think I heard anyone pick a Supremes song or anything from Motown really. I could be wrong on that though.

Big Brother: Eviction and New HOH

Big Brother: Eviction and New HOH

Posted by Dustin on 02.20.2008 at 8:54 pm

Before we get to the big spoilers, so those on the west coast you might not want to keep reading, some recaps of the drama.

First we saw clips of the fight the other night I blogged about, the confrontation with Amanda. When asked about this later, Amanda says she forgave Chelsea and Josh, that they had both apologized several times.

The second drama was between Jen and Ryan. Jen apparently told  some housemates that Ryan was racist. Was this a ploy to get them to boot him out? This got back to Ryan, who was livid. Sheila told him, other said they heard it. Could it be Sheila was lying and this was her game? They made it seem that way, as Jen claimed all she said was he was upset when she dated a black man in her past at some point and she thought he had issues with Parker because of that, given Parker was now her partner in the game. The girls all claimed that isn’t what Jen said, she kept saying she never said he was a racist. Out came the clip . . . indeed Jen said it to the others! However when they were sitting next to each other on the block, it seemed like they had patched everything up, so who knows.

Everyone soon voted and the evicted couple by a vote 3 to 1 of was Jen and Parker.

The HOH game was played, and the new HOH couple is Chelsea and James.

The HOH competition was a majority in the house would rather . . . . game. They had to select between two answers, the couples got points if their answer went with the majority. However it was also a reward and loss challenge. What the majority voted for happened. So the results were . . .

For the next 72 hours, no hot water! There goes the hot tub action at night.

For the next 24 hours the women must wear bikinis.

For the next week there will be no drinking cups.

The house won a margarita party.

For the next week the women have to cook dinner for the house.

The house has to go two weeks without a washing machine . . . YUCK!

“Medium” returned last night with an interesting episode. Allison began having dreams of a deaf girl being kidnapped. This lead to her going deaf herself! The case ended up being what Cynthia Keener (Angelica Houston) was working on, and Allison was pulled in to help. It was interesting to see Allison having trouble communicating her dreams and relying on Joe. However as far as the case went, I was disappointed. The minute we learned the deaf girl was the daughter of a millionaire, I immediately guessed the father orchestrated it as part of an insurance scam to funnel money around. That is what it turned out to be, the step-father (played by the actor who played Rex on “Desperate Housewives”) was behind it all.

One thing that didn’t bore me in this episode though was Angelica Houston. I absolutely LOVE her character on the show, it’s a breath of fresh air. I’m really hoping that she’ll be kept around. I realize she probably has bigger things to do than TV, but I’d love it if she was recurring, popping up for a few episodes a season.

Big Brother After Dark: Nasty, Not In A Good Way!

Big Brother After Dark: Nasty, Not In A Good Way!

Posted by Dustin on 02.18.2008 at 5:51 pm

For the most part, Showtime’s “Big Brother After Dark” has been a snooze fest this past week. Last night though the stuff hit the fan! It seems Amanda has been going around the house talking trash to people about others, and they all started comparing notes. Josh was out in the hot tub with others when Chelsea came out and confronted Amanda about some of the things she was saying. Amanda tried to deny it, but others started joining in. Josh just exploded on Amanda, telling her everyone in the house hated her. He dropped the F word, the C word, every nasty profanity he could to let her know what everyone thought of her. Josh said even her own partner Alex can’t stand her! Amanda was in tears and went on the defense, saying she had never done this or that. Josh said “Oh someone give her a halo.” Chelsea said “or a noose.” This is when it got even uglier, as Amanda has earlier told the house how her father committed suicide by hanging himself. Amanda ran back into the house where Natalie tries to talk to her and calm her down. Chelsea later came in and said she wasn’t thinking, she never meant to have it be a insult about her dad. Amanda ended up going somewhere to hide, while many of the girls in the house began talking about Amanda. Sheila said she doesn’t hate Amanda, she hates the things she’s doing and saying, and she’s just very young. Others agreed, they hate the way she’s playing this game.

It should be interesting to see what makes it to air. Some of the girls were afraid Josh was going to smack Amanda. He had said to her that if he was a woman, he would slap her face. He also admitted that he was so close to just pushing her in the pool or snapping her with a towel. They told him they were glad he didn’t as he probably would have been kicked out.

Brothers and Sisters: Karaoke!

Brothers and Sisters: Karaoke!

So this is the last pre-strike episode of “Brothers and Sisters.” The show is scheduled to return, but it will probably be a good month to a month and a half before we see a new episode. Anyway, let’s dish about this episode.

Hitting FAR too close to home, Robert continued campaigning for President and it seems they’ve entered the primaries. In this episode he was working to win the Michigan primary. He attempted to the Governor of Michigan to endorse him, but the Governor wouldn’t. I was lost here. Do we know why he wouldn’t? Did I miss something? Maybe he just thought Robert wasn’t Republican enough?

Jason and Robert faced off this week too, as Jason learned Robert had hired Isaac, the man who outed him during Robert’s first campaign for Senate. Honestly I was expecting from the previews that this was to be such a major and huge issue of the show. It however seemed to be just a blurp. Robert said it was water under the bridge, that Isaac was good at his job. Jason however didn’t like that explanation at all. Jason felt he was brought out as the gay guy for the gay friendly states and hid away other times. Perhaps this will be brought up later down the road. Jason is always defending Robert to Kevin, maybe now he’ll see he’s not such the perfect older brother after all.

Kitty watched Robert’s brats, I mean kids, and they all ended up stuck in a hotel sick together. Kitty finally laid down the law with them, refusing to let them walk all over her or treat her like “The wicked step-mother.” She told them right now she was the wicked step mother, so get into bed, shut up and rest! By the end of the episode it seemed to gain her some respect with the kids. They were bonding as a family when the news that Robert won Michigan came in. I have to wonder if they plan to actually make Robert the President of the United States or not? That would kind of complicate things, and take the show far too much into “West Wing” territory for my tastes.

Kevin met Scotty’s friends out at a gay bar, and it didn’t go so well. They couldn’t forget the history between Kevin and Scotty, and they also felt Kevin was a bit uptight. Meanwhile Sarah received her divorce papers and decided she wanted to go get drunk, and decided uptight Kevin should go out with her. It didn’t help that her soon to be ex, the shmuch that he is, took his new girl (his former ex-wife) to Paris for her birthday. That was what Sarah always wanted but Joe never did for her. I hate Joe! They ended up at the gay bar, it was Karaoke night. Scotty and his friends were there, which is why Kevin picked it. He was determined to show them he could be fun, but it was Sarah who seemed to take control of the night and made friends with everyone! It was great to see Sarah letting her hair down a bit and having some fun. Kevin simply got sloshed and attempted to sing, but pretty much made a fool of himself. Graham brought a drunk Sarah her divorce papers, which she signed. They then had a little one night stand thing, which I’m sure will turn into more than a one night stand.

Rebeca tried to figure out what she wanted to do in life. It was suggested she look into photography, as she always seems to have a camera with her. She met with David, who gave her advice, as well as some old photos he took of Holly. Rebbecca then photographed her mom, and talked to her about David. Rebbecca let her mom know that David really loved her, which seemed to make Holly uncomfortable. Holly went to see David to thank him for his help with Rebbecca, and they had some romantical moments. Meanwhile Rebbecca seemed entranced by the photos she took of her mom and the photos David took of her years ago. Okay was I missing something here? It seemed like Rebbecca was having this “Aha” moment that I was not catching onto.

Finally Saul went in search of Milo, but found Milo was out of town. Milo was letting a friend of his stay at his place. Saul and Milo’s friend talked about Milo and his divorce, how hard it was for Milo. I was just waiting for Saul to end up pouncing on this guy, why I don’t know. Now I wonder if this means Milo will be coming back for a visit when the show returns.

Ahhhhhh! I don’t think I can wait for the next new episode. It seems like it won’t be here for forever.
