Grey’s and Private Practice Weekly Thoughts

Grey’s and Private Practice Weekly Thoughts

Posted by Dustin on 10.23.2009 at 7:28 pm

So as usual, just doing a thoughts update. One day when I am not overloaded with other work and not on the verge of a mental breakdown, I’ll start doing recaps again on a more regular basis ๐Ÿ™‚

Grey’s Anatomy

Honestly, this entire episode, while good, I felt was a big filler episode. Basically a patient died in the ER because everyone was treating her, but nobody was TREATING her. It was choas, trauma victims were all over the place from a fire. Unfortunately a poor woman bounced from doctor to doctor was the casualty, and because The Chief needed a reason to fire someone else, the witch hunt was on. In the end it was the quiet new Mercy West doctor with the diary that made the mistake and got fired. Oh how I wish it was the jerk who was an ass to Izzie or that girl with the pixie haircut who seemed to be throwing Alex under the bus to The Chief. In the end the whole episode was summed up to The Chief by Derek. That woman died because there are too many doctors who don’t trust one another and that has resulted in a chaotic system, a system The Chief made. Slam dunk for Derek!

Private Practice

The big case in this episode was about a homeless teenager with a baby boy who had a heart condition. Addison, Sam and Pete were trying to save the boy, while at the same time mending the girl’s relationship with her mom, who as Addison put it, was “an ass.” Well she was! Slam Dunk for Addison!

Violet, in counseling a pregnant rape victim conflicted on whether to keep the child, inadvertently influence her because of her own trauma, both with a previous rape and what Katie did to her. This was much needed, and it helped explain why Violet can’t look at her son . . . she relives what Katie did to her, not knowing if she was even going to live through it. By the end of the episode Violet took a sledge hammer to the floor in her house where the blood stain would not come out. I felt that scene was the beginning of Violet taking back her life. Next week of course is the big court case with Katie. I can’t wait!

Sadly, Violet’s inability to deal with Lucas lead Pete to leaving the practice and joining Noami’s team. Nooooo! I am sick of this separation, I want it over. I am hoping November Sweeps will resolve it, but I doubt it.

Cooper was faced with money problems this week. Addison wanted everyone to chip in 50K to buy out Naomi’s share of the practice, since they weren’t going to replace her. At the same time, Charlotte had decided to remodel Cooper’s condo/apartment. Cooper broke down, telling Charlotte about the money and why he didn’t have it. Basically pediatricians make less, and he’s a 12 year old that likes porn, shiny cars and electronic gadgets. He’s broke! She thanked him for confiding and kissed him.

You know, just when I thought I was liking Charlotte, she went and paid Cooper’s bill to Addison and demanded to be part of the practice. Grrrr! And with that she undid my liking for her in this episode, as she once again used a situation to her advantage to get what she wanted. This is why I can’t commit to these two as a couple!

Glee: Three Weeks And No Glee!

Glee: Three Weeks And No Glee!

Posted by Dustin on 10.22.2009 at 8:55 pm

Ahhhhhh, there will be no Glee for three weeks. How will we live? The only thing keeping me going is the news that next year we’ll get an all Madonna song episode of “Glee.” I cannot wait to see what they do. I want to see Kurt cover “Vogue” and maybe Rachel do “Express Yourself.”

I so loved this week with Puck singing “Sweet Caroline” as well as Emma covering “My Fair Lady.” Who knew she could sing like that . . . and in a British accent? I could have lived without “The Thong Song” though.

Poor Sue, shot down by love. She went from happy nice Sue back to bitchy Sue in zero to sixty. I guess we knew the nice Sue couldn’t last. I’m shocked it took her so long to kick Quinn off the Cheerios though, I thought that would have happened the minute she learned about the baby.

Speaking of the baby, I can’t wait for the truth to come out. The previews showed Puck telling Amber the truth, so hopefully it won’t be too long! However that still doesn’t solve the issue with Teri’s fake baby. Will Quinn still give the baby up to her? I have a feeling if Puck comes into the equation that baby isn’t going to Teri, who will have to scramble to solve her problem. I’m sure she’ll find a way too, as it would be too easy for Mr. Shue to end up with Emma and live happily ever after. He’ll probably find out the truth right after she says “I do” to Ken.

Ahhhhhhhhh 3 weeks!

90210 and Melrose: Aka Oh Yeah It’s Tuesday

90210 and Melrose: Aka Oh Yeah It’s Tuesday

Posted by Dustin on 10.22.2009 at 8:44 pm

Honestly, the title says it all. My enthusiasm for “90210” has worn thin, and the only reason I tuned into “Melrose” this week was to see Daphne Zuniga, who was poorly used.

“90210”

I hate hate HATE the Dillon and Sasha storyline, have since the beginning. Now we are supposed to believe she’s pregnant? Given we did the teenage pregnancy story last year, I am not buying. I think we all have guessed she’s probably faking it, or is pregnant but lying about the daddy.

Teddy and Silver bonding I didn’t like, mainly because it seems Teddy bonds with a different girl every episode. I think only Annie is left for him to bond with.

Speaking of Annie, oh lord, her getting involved with that criminal kid and stealing the car and all. I just can’t even feel sorry for her anymore over what has happened to her.

Noami and her go-green attempt to get into college was dulls-ville, thankfully that story is over.

Liam . . . . I don’t care about him and that surfer chick Ivy at all. I just want to see the truth about Liam and Jen come out, anytime in the next few years!

Finally the whole Kelly-Deb-Harry thing . . . . NO! Just put an end to that story right now. Can’t she get back with Mr. Matthews?

Melrose Place

Really, I only tuned in this week to see Daphne Zuniga return as Jo, and I wasn’t to thrilled by her story. I think they are using the old cast members to keep original watchers around at this point. BTW, where the hell is the new landlord Jane? She was great, and then they just have made her disappear again!

The news came out today that both Violet and Auggie are out of Melrose by the end of the year, the who killed Sydney story will be solved, and a whole new batch of residents added in (I guess because they realized this batch was boring as bleep!).

I have to say, Violet and Auggie are actually the most interesting of the new batch. I would rather have seen a lot of other characters go before them!

Heroes: Welcome To The Carnival

Heroes: Welcome To The Carnival

Posted by Dustin on 10.20.2009 at 7:07 pm

So last night on “Heroes” Sylar became adopted by the carnival, though it became clear Samuel had some plan to use him somehow. He knew who he was and was trying to help Sylar remember his memories. A soothsayer felt there were two people in Sylar at war, which is why Samuel was trying to help him remember who he really was.

First of all, if Samuel knew as much as he thinks he does about Sylar, he wouldn’t want him there. If Sylar comes back, that Carnival is toast. Also what the soothsayer said is what I’ve been thinking would happen, 2 souls in 1 body, 1 can win out. I am really beginning to think the certain male hero who is being let go is going to be either Sylar or Nathan. I’m leaning more towards Sylar, only because this game they’ve been playing with him for 4 seasons now is wearing thin.

Ray Park’s character, the fast knife thrower, doesn’t like Sylar and doesn’t like that Samuel is pimping Lydia out to Sylar to reel him in. The little side story from Sprint has Lydia having a kid. With Ray Park’s character me thinks!

Peter took Hiro to the hospital where he learned how sick he was. Peter teamed up with Noah to go find a kid with healing powers to use on Hiro. Meanwhile Hiro helped Emma learn to cope with her powers and how they are gift to be used to help people. She kept warning him to stop using his powers as he had to wait for Peter. However he remembered something for his bucket list, saving his friend Charlie from last season. He warped out to save her just as Peter returned with the power to heal him.

Hiro of course also stands to be someone they could fire off, but honestly I don’t think it will be him. He’s been the face of the show for too long, even if his shtick is also running a bit thin. However this episode I actually really liked Hiro.

Housewives and Brothers & Sisters Thoughts For October 18th

Housewives and Brothers & Sisters Thoughts For October 18th

Posted by Dustin on 10.19.2009 at 7:07 pm

I forgot to, well I didn’t forget I just never got around, to doing a post for last week’s “Brothers and Sisters.” So this week I’m mashing “Housewives and Brothers and Sisters” together in one long thoughts ramble ๐Ÿ™‚

“Desperate Housewives”

Ana began working with, and falling in love with, John the Gardner on Housewives. However John had his eyes still set on Gabby, he wanted to rescue her from the mundane life she was in. She said she was happy, but that didn’t stop him from kissing her, or Ana seeing it. However after a heartfelt talk from Aunt Gabby, Ana quit her job and kept the kiss a secret. Yeah for how long though? I don’t like Ana and I don’t trust her. Honestly I think they could have given Gabby and Carlos a much better story without needing her. She’ll use the kiss at the right time to hurt Gabby and gain her uncle’s favor for sure.

Lynette continued to try and fool Carlos about her pregnancy, even though her boobs had doubled in size because of the pregnancy. Carlos and everyone at work thought she got implants, so she let them believe it! This story was pretty funny, but it won’t be long before she’s found out. I imagine Carlos isn’t going to fire her, and I’m still afraid something is going to happen and the twins aren’t going to be born at all.

Bree finally called Katherine on her craziness, saying she was obsessed with Mike and Susan and needed help. Katherine didn’t want to hear it of course. I was just glad to see someone tell Katherine it was time to move on. I still think she’s going to do something big like kidnap Mike.

Finally Susan learned more of Julie’s secrets, thanks to Andrew (who made a brief appearance). Julie not only dropped out of med school sixth months ago, but the guy she was seeing was married. Yeah, I could see where this was going. Susan, desperate to get answers, searched through Julie’s journal, but didn’t find much as she only used initials for names. Julie eventually woke up, but was not in the mood to deal with Susan’s questions.

Meanwhile Angie was desperate for Danny to make friends and bribed Lynette’s kid to throw a party for his birthday. There was a weird scene with Danny’s mom undressing down to her bra to try on a new shirt, revealing her scar. Obviously revealing the scar was the point of this scene. He wanted her to have it fixed, but she wasn’t ready. We learned she got it in an “explosion” and that Nick had saved her life, so the scar reminded her of that. Danny later confronted his dad, saying he knew his secret. Yup, Nick went to Julie’s room as the show ended, he was the married man she was seeing! I guessed that one a week or two ago ๐Ÿ™‚

Something about this “family” doesn’t add up. I almost wanna believe they aren’t a family, as the mom undressing in front of her kid was . . . odd. I mean there is usually a time when parents stop being naked around their kids, and this is well past that time! Something creeped me out about their interactions.

“Brothers and Sisters’

Sarah returned this week to help Kitty through chemo. She told her the story of her whirlwind romance in France with Luc (Giles Marini). However by time she got to the end of the story, Kitty recognized it as some movie their mom used to watch over and over when they were kids. At the end the woman finds out the lover has a wife, so she leaves him. In real life, Sarah didn’t want to tell Kitty she had to cut short the romance and jet home because of her cancer. Fortunately Luc couldn’t live without Sarah’s luuuvvv, and showed up on her doorstep at the end. This was a cute little story, I like how the double twist played out. I knew Luc was coming back and had to be real, but I like how they played it out.

Robert tried to sabotage his campaign by not quitting, just giving up. Kitty and Kevin wouldn’t let him do that and teamed up, having Kitty give an interview to reassure Robert’s voters and campaign contributors. As she told Kevin, she can’t let Robert quit, as if she ends up dying . . . heart breaking! So was the end when Kitty told her mom it was okay if she cried in front of her. I think Sally Field’s will get herself and Emmy for this, and may be up against Calista!

Rebecca tried to find the perfect spot for her wedding, but got little help from Holly who was on the phone trying to buy cheap wine to sell. In the end, Rebecca settled on Hawaii (I believe, maybe it was just the beach), as while other little girls were dreaming about their weddings, she was dreaming about living on an island and swimming with dolphins. Justin loved the idea, as it meant surfing involved for him which he loved.

Justin meanwhile found out while his lab partner at school hates him and told the teacher he wanted another partner. The teacher however respects Justin and wanted to him to teach the genius kid how to have more of a life. The show keeps hinting that Justin is in danger of failing out of school and doing poorly. I hope they don’t go that route myself. I don’t think they will, but them constantly pointing it out is starting to get on my nerves. That’s why I liked that his anatomy teacher actually liked him.

Ghost Whisperer: Ghosts In The Hospital

Ghost Whisperer: Ghosts In The Hospital

Posted by Dustin on 10.18.2009 at 1:49 pm

I don’t really have too much to say about the latest “Ghost Whisperer.” The hospital storyline continued, with two ghosts being the main ghosts. One was a ghost of someone in an oxygen mask haunting the morgue. The other a residual haunting attached to an old instrument Jim found and brought home.

The later ghost was a surgeon who had a heart attack during an open heart surgery and thought he killed his patient. He didn’t, and once Melinda made him see that, he moved on. The ghost in the morgue though, who is apparently pretty violent and likes to manipulate the dead bodies, remains a mystery.

So we have yet another unknown ghost in the hospital, along with that Sarah Stitch girl. Seems like they are building up to a big hospital story here. The ghost in the morgue I thought was a little too “House on Haunted Hill” for my tastes, they copied the way those ghosts moved and screamed for him.

Eli’s mother’s ghost remained around, looking after Eli who was sick in this episode. I am not sure why she’s sticking around and won’t cross over (maybe I missed that from last week’s episode?).

The Ugly Betty Season Premier Thoughts

The Ugly Betty Season Premier Thoughts

Posted by Dustin on 10.17.2009 at 8:15 pm

So last night was the 2-hour season premier of “Ugly Betty.” I definitely felt the show was back to where it started off, before going a little off track. Hopefully they can keep this momentum up! Here are some thoughts, with a bit of recap thrown in.

First up, I can’t believe I ever liked Matt to begin with. He was nothing but a jerk to Betty. I actually loved Daniel punching him out at the photo shoot. I know the show hasn’t wanted Betty and Daniel to hook up (even though that’s how the originals all end), but at this point it would be nice to see Betty with someone who is a good guy (well Daniel is a reformed jerk). Betty needs a good guy love interest, and if Matt doesn’t get it together, he can be out the door for good!

Poor Betty started her new job and everyone hates her it seems. Not only that, Daniel made everything worse and now it looks like she’s Daniel’s favorite. She had to ask him to back off and let her stand on her own, while he also realized he had to stop relying on her as well. I hope they don’t completely cut these two off, love their interactions.

Willie’s shocking guest she found at the end of last season turned out to be her estranged daughter Nico, who arrived covered in blood needing help. Nico had apparently killed her abusive boyfriend and dumped him over his boat. Willie helped her clean up the boat, but they of course missed one tiny spot of blood . . . and a detective is now on the case!

Speaking of Willie, Claire is the new CEO of Meade, and she and Matt’s dad decided not to fire as she is irreplaceable. She is still planning to find Connor, get the money he stole and use it to buy out controlling interest. Umm, yeah I had a problem with this plan last season too. She’s using money stolen FROM Mode to BUY Mode. Can’t really do that, it’s illegal ๐Ÿ™‚

Claire’s kid she gave up for adoption, but told Matt’s dad she had aborted, wasn’t brought up at all.

Justin started high school and had a hard time, being picked on and all by the other kids. He talked to Marc, not his mom about this, and Hilda was upset. Justin told his mom she just wouldn’t understand, and started giving her the silent treatment when she forbade Marc to talk to him about things her son should be coming to her about.

By the end of the episode she realized thanks to her dad that Justin was being a teenager, just like she was at his age. He said she used all sorts of colorful language to let him know that he didn’t understand her problems too. She also realized from Marc that, well he related better to Justin’s problems than she does. He told her that she loved him and supported him, which is a lot more than most kids out there have from their parents. Loved this story, but didn’t understand why they basically danced all around the topic at hand here, Justin is gay. I don’t know if ABC is afraid to go there given the actor’s young age or what, but it was made clear that is what this was about.

Oh I almost forgot, by the end of the episode, thanks to a blog Amanda and Marc have kept daily of Betty’s bad outfits, she gave herself a makeover to make her wardrobe less crazy and more professional! Loved the new Betty, and they hinted the braces were soon to come off too.
