V Series: Thoughts On The Second Episode
I don’t know, I guess the highlight of this second episode for me was seeing Roark Critchlow (Mike Horton) show up as an FBI agent/boss.
After last week’s premier basically squeezed half the miniseries into one night, I wondered what they would do the rest of the season. Well that answer comes in two parts. 1) it goes off the air at the end of November and doesn’t return till next march. 2) based on this episode I think it might drag.
Last night’s episode was a struggle to hold my interest. The main character’s V-loving kid Tyler is a brat and not very likable. He’s not loath-able like the one in the original though either. He’s in love with the girl V, but she doesn’t like him much after she saw him start a fight with some people harassing his friend. YAWN. The only twist I can see here is she’ll get pregnant with the hybrid, not the other way around as it was in the original.
Scott Wolf’s story angering Anna and the V’s with his news report, under the claim he really was helping them by swaying public favor, was boring too.
One interesting thing they at least address was cross-species sex. Both with Ryan and Erica’s missing partner Dale, who is a V. She said if he has been a V and here as long as he has, well he’s married, his wife had to have had some notion he was different! Meanwhile Ryan continues to hide his V status from the woman he loves and wants to marry.
The whole episode basically lead up to Erica and the Priest beginning to form a new resistance, this time one made up of humans, not traitor Vs.

Is it just me, or does the head priest just scream “V”?

Yes, I thought that the minute in the pilot the guy said the V’s had infiltrated their governments and religion and were causing the wars.
Also the assistant to Anna said something along the lines of “We can’t have another rebellion” as if this has happened before. I’m guessing they are going to pull a stargate somehow, saying the V’s had been here before. My guess is they’ll put them in Mesoamerica though.

I agree that there is something up with the head priest. He is just a tinge too accepting of all this mess.
I was reading on LiveJournal an author I like, who is electing to not watch any of the series until it returns in March. I wish I had to be honest.
I agree they are going to show they have been here before maybe even implying that they were involved with the pryamids…. Which would to me be stupid.
I also think that hte girl is going to somehow end up pregs. somehow I think at some level they are staying a little too close to the orginal.

Mesoamerica would work really well because 1) of the penchant for human sacrifice/captives during wars and 2) many of the cultures had a feathered serpent god (ie flying lizards).
