American Idol: Ellen and Kara OUT! Whose In?
So unless you were in a vacation bubble these past few days, you no doubt have heard the news. First Ellen DeGeneres quit “American Idol,” saying that it just wasn’t right for her in the end. Then came rumors that have basically been all but confirmed/reported by the media that Kara Dioguardi was fired (TMZ was the original source on this one).
Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler are the names currently floating around as replacement judges. It seems that the show will probably just return to the three judge format. However obviously the only original judge left is Randy Jackson . . . which begs the answer to the question “Can The Show Still Work?”
Will anyone be surprised if Paula suddenly returned? At this point in the game, and in an attempt to save the show, I wouldn’t. I mean, do we remember who even won the show last season? Where is news on their album or single?
Personally, I think it’s time for “Idol” to just hang up the microphone.
Hang up the microphone? Oh Dustin, Dustin, Dustin…this past season was down 5 million viewers, but it’s still the number 1 show on television. As long as they remain in the top 10, the show is completely secure. I agree the show needs a shot in the arm to improve. This previous season was not as exciting as some in the past. However, I think it is very fixable. Like you, I’m not certain these judges are the best choices. Keep in mind, though, they are at least working to attempt a fix for the show when they are still number 1. Hopefully, they were bright enough to give J.Lo and Tyler only 1 year contracts, so they can try someone else next year if they don’t work out.

It might be the #1 show, the problem is they aren’t putting out #1 idols anymore. Runners up have a better shot than the winner in making it nowadays. Really only Kelly and Carrie have hit it big and been able to sustain multiple albums.

I agree with that, but part of the problem is the voters. I wish each phone could only submit one vote…that would be nice. I can’t keep up with teen girls who stay up for hours voting. I fear it will only get worse this year with 15 y/o joining the talent pool. Many good people went home way too early this past season.
