Patrick Dempsey To Leave “Grey’s,” Ellen Pompeo Not Far Behind?
According to Italian Vanity Fair, quoted by TVLine, Patrick Dempsey has confirmed next season will be his final season of “Grey’s Anatomy.”
Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith, has recently given interviews that she doesn’t know yet what her status with the show will be past the upcoming 8th season.
The exit of both actors has been talked about since season six, and it has always been expected that Lexie Grey would become the “Grey” in “Grey’s Anatomy.”

I have not been enjoying Grey’s much lately…so I’m not sure if this news makes me that sad or not!

I read somewhere that his publicist had said that the interview was taken out of context and that he was referring to the fact that next season was the last of his contract and not that next season is his last. But then the article said it could very well be a ploy to drum up some drama for potential negotiations for a new contract and possibly get “ABC to back up the money truck” (their words not mine..lol). But who knows, I thought that I had heard that both him and Ellen wanted out after season 8 a few seasons ago.

I stopped watching Grey’s Anatomy when George was killed off. Personally I think the show started going downhill with the whole Meredith trying to drown herself storyline – it just seemed to come out of nowhere. The first 2 years were the best.

Agree about Season 3 (with the drowning and Gizzie) being a rough season. However, since the 2nd half of Season 4 (when Meredith finally worked out her issues), I think the show has improved! I love the current cast, but I’m not sure if I will continue to watch if all of the originals depart this year. If we lose just Mer and Der, I will be crushed, but I will still tune in for Christina, Miranda, and Alex. All five would have to leave before I’d tune out. Plus, I love Mark and Callie!
