Once Upon A Time: So Long Sheriff?

Once Upon A Time: So Long Sheriff?

Last night was the mid-season finale of “Once Upon A Time” and what a finale it was! WOW! We learned a lot, I mean a lot, and were left with one hell of a cliff hanger.

Emma and Sheriff Graham ended up sharing a kiss, one that not only pissed off Madam Mayor, but also made Graham have odd memories of some other life.

We finally got his back story, that he was the Huntsman the Queen hired to bring Snow’s heart. However we learned MUCH more! While the Queen was married to Snow’s father, and he did die . . . this is not why she hates Snow. We learned she married and killed her father as part of revenge for a deeper wrong Snow did to her . . . . Very interesting! What did Snow do? It seems like she still cost her “her greatest love,” but we don’t know who that is still. We do know it’s NOT Snow’s daddy.

The Huntsman, as in the story, couldn’t bring himself to kill Snow, and have the queen a deer’s heart. She recognized it and felt she was owed a heart. She took his, and put it in a vault . . . saying he was now her puppet to do anything she wanted with, and when she got tired of him all she had to do was retrieve his heart and squeeze!

Graham continued to remember odd things, even telling the Mayor who dismissed it as stress and other things. However when he learned from Emma about Henry’s theory, he sought him out. Henry believed him to be the Hunstman, whose heart was stolen. He felt that’s why he was always so devoid of emotion. In a conversation with Mary Margaret, he began to realize Henry may be right . . . he can’t remember how he ever met anyone in Storybrooke, just that he’s always known them.

He became convinced that the Mayor had his heart hidden in some vault and went looking for it. Emma tried to make him realize that was a bit nuts, and he had a heart in his chest, she could feel it beating. They shared a kiss, and he remembered EVERYTHING! Unfortunately at this moment, the Mayor descended into a crypt under her father’s fake grave. Down below was her vault . . . she took out the Huntsman’s heart and squeezed! Graham collapsed!

Has she really killed Graham, or done something to make him forget again, and perhaps turn on Emma? The previews didn’t much say, though we did see her trying to fire Emma. Emma said Graham named her deputy! I am hoping he is just in critical condition in the hospital or something, and when he wakes up will be back under the Mayor/Queen’s spell. One thing is for sure, we have a definitive answer, the Queen/Mayor remembers!

  1. The queen did mention that Snow blabbed some secret of hers – I’m guessing it is somehow involved with the queen’s love of her life (maybe involving a child or the chance for a child – it doesn’t seem as if she can have one now since she had to adopt one.)

It was a great episode. I think it shows that somehow Emma is a key to the people finding out about the past.

Where did the wolf come from?

One thing I thought strange (or bad writing). If the queen wanted a heartless man to kill Snow, why wouldn’t she just use one of her personal guards she had around when talking into the mirror? A huntsman who cries over slain animals seems to me to be a bit extra sensitive compared to other hunters and not a tough heartless guy at all.

What do you think Mr. Gold was really doing with the shovel? I didn’t notice any plants in his hands when he was walking away.

  2. Not Sure about the Wolf. Big Bad Wolf? Some have some bizarre theories that the Wolf is his twin or something.

Not sure about the shovel. Seems like we get a lot more of Mr. Gold when the show comes back. Also I’m guessing Hansel and Gretel, which means another Wicked Witch character.

  3. I think what she liked about the Hunstman was his non-caring for anything human. He had that speech about Animals, how they are more pure than humans or something.

  4. She didn’t want the guards because she everyone loved snow white in the kingdom and wouldn’t do it (she sort of explained something like that) and didn’t she squeeze his heart until it was dust? That makes me think the sheriff is gone for good

  5. Yes, the queen did mention that everyone in the kingdom loved Snow White, but she was explaining this, loudly, in front of the magic mirror with two of her guards standing in the room not far from her. I figured that at least these two guards were aware of her evilness. She was talking , in front of them, about how she murdered the king. I think that if these guards were not on her special payroll at least they would have been sent to stand outside the door while the queen whispered quietly to the mirror. It seemed a bit sloppy of the director (or whoever) to ignore this rather important detail. Maybe it’s just me…

  6. I’ve been thinking about your thoughts on the huntsman. The queen did squeeze his heart to dust, so it doesn’t look good for him. But maybe he’ll be in a coma or something. I suppose I could check IMDB to see how many episodes the actor appears in.

How did you hear about Hansel and Gretel? Were they in previews? I don’t get previews (in Canada).

So I wonder which direction this show will take? Will it be years before everyone knows about their past lives? Or will that be sorted out this season with a lead up to a war between the good and bad characters and/or a search for a way back? Maybe some wouldn’t want to go back.

  7. In the fairy tale books, the queen wants to kill Snow White because she becomes more beautiful than her. She always says the “Mirror, mirror on the wall..” saying and it replies “You are” until one day it says “Snow White”. Maybe the love she had was herself?
And I don’t think it looks good for Graham. His heart was dust.

I just checked IMBD and he is in 22 episodes. Some are in 2012. SO unless they are flashbacks, he is still alive somehow? Or is it his funeral?

  8. Maybe a sobbing Emma will kiss Graham and he will come back. If a kiss can make him remember, maybe one can save him.

  9. That would be so awesome if her kiss could save him. The Mayor/Queen would be so pissed.

  10. Ooohhh, good thinking about the kiss Nic. Sort of a reversal of what happened to Emma’s mom.

  11. I read an interview with the actor (I think on E!). It seems the Sheriff is dead, or that’s what he’s leading us to believe. He said he knew when he was hired this would happen.

HE did point out though that the Hunstman however lived without his heart, and his character isn’t dead in the fairytale side yet.

As for Hansel and Gretel, we saw two kids in the previews, I was guessing that’s who they were.
