Bionic Woman: The Pilot Review

Bionic Woman: The Pilot Review

Posted by Dustin on 09.13.2007 at 1:38 am

“The Bionic Woman,” at least the pilot episode, is basically best described as “Heroes” on overdrive! Don’t get me wrong, I luv my “Heroes,” and I understand the need to create back stories and all that, but in the pilot of “Bionic Woman,” it did everything a you expected to see throughout the 1st season of “Heroes” in one short hour. Yes, it was THAT good.

I thought this show was absolutely, without a doubt amazing. I’m serious, everything about this show was incredibly well done. The casting was top notch, the effects were great (though I do miss the 70s boinging bionic effects), the story was just amazing. This show pulls you in from the beginning to the very end. NBC definitely has another hit on its hands. I just hope the follow-up episodes live up to the pilot and don’t disappoint.

I just watched, for those wondering, the pilot on Amazon’s “UnBox” service, which is available to Tivo owners. NBC has all their new fall pilots up for free download. The following is my recap of the pilot, and is HEAVY on spoilers. No I mean it. This is basically a full recap of the pilot. If you don’t want to know before the show premiers later this month on NBC, skip the rest of this post. I’ve thrown in some quick digital images. Apologies for the quality, one day soon I’ll have my PC attached to the cable box to get high quality snaps.

Isaiah Washington Guest Stars on 5 Episodes of The Bionic Woman

Isaiah Washington Guest Stars on 5 Episodes of The Bionic Woman

Posted by Dustin on 07.16.2007 at 7:16 pm

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - July 16, 2007 - Isaiah Washington will guest-star in an arc of five episodes on NBC’s new drama series “Bionic Woman,” it was announced today at NBC’s Summer Press Tour in Beverly Hills, CA. In addition, the network and studio are developing an action-series project with Washington based on an idea from Washington.

The announcement was made by Ben Silverman, Co-Chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios.

“Isaiah Washington is a very talented and versatile actor and I’ve always admired his work,” said Silverman. “These episodes on ‘Bionic Woman’ and the new development deal will showcase his talents, and we look forward to producing some great television together.”

“Great television is all about brilliant actors who can inhabit strong characters,” said Katherine Pope, President, Universal Media Studios. “That’s what this role on ‘Bionic Woman’ called for, and Isaiah is the perfect actor to do it.”

On “Bionic Woman,” Washington will play a mysterious person who is brought into the enigmatic scientific organization that is responsible for creating the bionics that turn Jaime Sommers (Michelle Ryan, “EastEnders”) into the “Bionic Woman.” His agenda is unclear as he instructs Jaime on how to handle her new abilities.

The Bionic Woman: I’m Sold!

The Bionic Woman: I’m Sold!

The Bionic Woman

So I have to admit, when NBC first announced the remake of “The Bionic Woman” I was a bit skeptical. I mean the original was a classic, you don’t mess with classics. It could have turned out to be one huge disaster. However after watching the video preview over at NBC.com, I have to say I’m sold. I cannot wait for this show to start airing!

Now they have changed a few things. For starters, there is no bionic man, well not yet. The original was a spin-off of “The Bionic Man” and Jamie was his girlfriend. In this one she’s the girlfriend of a professor of bionics, he saves her after a car crash. The bionic parts are all there though: legs, an arm, an eye and and ear.

Jaime has a little sister she takes care of in this one, and unlike the original, she doesn’t seem to lose her memory after waking up bionic. The best part of course is the bionic villain, who is played by none other than Katee Sackhoff, who many may recognize as Starbuck on the new “Battlestar Galactica.”
