Dancing With The Stars Week 4!
Posted by Dustin on 04.07.2008 at 9:32 pm
First up, I seem to be suffering from “unable to pay attention” syndrome tonight. I was listening to the show, but often forgot to actually look up and WATCH. Plus I had a browser crash during the middle to make things worse. Sorry!
Kristy and Marc danced the Pasa Double this week to New Order’s “Blue Monday.” The judges couldn’t agree on whether or not Kristi unleashed the drama or not. Len didn’t think she did, Bruno did, Carrie Anne agreed with Bruno and loved them. They received their first 10s, two of them, and they got a 29.
Priscilla and Louis danced the Viennese Waltz to some song I didn’t recognize (could have been an Aretha song). The judges thought she was elegant as always, but she did a lift (that may have been an accident) which was forbidden in this dance. They got 22.
Adam and Julianne danced the Pasa Double to some traditional Spanish song. Adam came out in a Zorro outfit on a unicycle! The judges said it was interesting, that he still isn’t much of a dancer, though he is a lovable guy. They got a 19.
Marlee and Fabian danced the Viennese Waltz to “She’s Always A Woman To Me.” The judges were moved by her performance, Carrie Anne to the point of tears. They got a 24.
Mario and Karina danced the Pasa Double to Red Hot Chilli Pepper’s “Higher Ground.” I thought it had too much modern dancing thrown in, but the judges seemed to like it, though Len was a bit hard on him. They got a 24.
Jason and Edyta did the Viennese Waltz to “This Is A Man’s World.” The judges said it was a great dance, it had wow factor. They got two 10s as well and tied with Kristi with a 29.
Christian and Cheryl danced the Pasa Double to a traditional song I don’t know. I thought they had one of the best dance of the night, at least the most energy. The judges felt it was a fine performance, that he was totally in character. They got a 26.
Shannon and Derek danced the Viennese Waltz to Avril Lavign’s “Keep Holding On.” The judges said it was elegant and beautiful, Len called it the best dance he saw all night. They got a 28, with the only 10 from Len and his first of the season.
Marissa and Tony danced the Pasa Double to another traditional Spanish song. The judges loved it, Carrie Anne said this is what she’s been waiting for, Len said keep it up, Bruno said they saw a side of her they hadn’t before. They got a 24, their best score so far.
On Tuesday’s show Sheryl Crow will be the guest performer. Next Monday will be Latin night with rumbas and sambas.
Dancing With The Stars: Saying Goodbye This Week . . . .
Posted by Dustin on 04.01.2008 at 10:18 pm
As always, if your on the west coast, the show hasn’t aired, so some spoilers in this post!
I was shocked that both Adam and Marissa were SAVED this week! However just like last week, they did not reveal who the bottom two were. In the end Steve Gutenberg was sent home packing, after doing a hilarious “Mango” for the judges with Jonathan Roberts, who he trained with while his partner (and Jonathan’s wife Anna) was ill.
The highlight of the show of course was Kylie Minogue performing “All I See” from her new album “Kylie X” as well as the now classic “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head.”
Dancing With The Stars: 3rd Week of Competition

Marley and Fabian danced the jive to “You May Be Wrong, You May Be Right.” The judges all felt she did a good job, but her timing was off a few times and to watch her hands. I myself thought they did a good job. They got a (score to be inserted, I missed it!)
Steve and Anna danced the tango to one of those classical tango songs, probably also featured on some margarine commercials as well. Steve was just stiff and awkward looking to me. The judges said that was his best dance so far and he had good footwork. They got a 21.
Christian and Cheryl danced the jive to “Mr Fahrenheit/Havin A Good Time?” The judges loved his performance, again saying it was his best dance yet. Len however said his legs could have been looser and his free arm needed work, but it was his best dance. They got a 25.
Mario and Karina danced the tango to “Roxanne” and I thought they did a really great job, but apparently I shouldn’t judge the tango! The judges said it had flair, but Len said it lacked posture and had terrible footwork. Carrie Anne agreed, he had style, but there were a lot of missteps. Bruno told him he could do better, but it wasn’t that bad. They got a 21.
Shannon and Derek danced the jive to “Goody Two Shoes.” She was okay, but it just wasn’t as flashy as I thought it should have been, it was slow. The judges said it was good, she needs to work on precision, she was fun to watch. They got a 24.
Adam and Julie danced the tango to “I Can’t Tell A Waltz From A Tango.” What to say? Julie did most of the work honestly, she danced around and even over him. Carrie Anne said Adam was actually sexy, Bruno said he was getting better and Len said Julie’s choreography actually made Adam look like a dancer. They got a 21.
Marrissa and Tony danced the jive to “Hey You” (Avril Lavign song). Just like Shannon’s, I just thought it was slow and not fun enough. The judges said it was a little too careful, Carrie said it was boring, Bruno even said it looked like a rehearsal. They did tell her that she had the talent, she’s got it so show it. They got a 19.
Priscilla and Louis danced the tango to a classical piece, again I’m sure you’ve heard it on some “I can’t believe it’s not butter” commercials before. I thought they did a great job. The judges also did too. They got a 25 (I think, need to double check)
Jason and Edyta danced the jive to a song I don’t know (”I’ve got a woman?”) I didn’t think it was on of Jason’s best performances, he looked clunky and awkward out there to me. The judges liked him, but didn’t feel the confidence from him. Len however thought it was sloppy. They got a 23.
Finally Kristi and Mark danced the tango to “Rio.” Once again I thought it was a solid performance from her. The judges felt it was a great performance, but she wasn’t there with her emotions, she needed to get more emotionally engaged. They got a 27.
I think Marissa and Adam will be in the bottom two this week, but honestly I don’t know who will go home.
Booted Tonight On Dancing With The Stars
Posted by Dustin on 03.25.2008 at 10:04 pm
Penn Jillette and Monica Seles were both given the boot this week on “Dancing With The Stars.” I’m not shocked by either, and am pretty sure Adam Corolla will probably be the next to go.
In other news, next week Kylie Minogue is set to perform a song from her new album “X.”
Dancing With Stars: Take 2
Posted by Dustin on 03.24.2008 at 10:00 pm
Tonight on “Dancing With The Starts,” each couple danced yet another set of dances. The scores from tonight and phone in votes will all be combined and lead to a double elimination on Tuesday. One man and one woman will go home this week.
I’m not going to review everyone’s dances again like I did last week. Instead I’m just giving my predictions that Monica Seles and Adam Corolla will be heading home tomorrow night. Additionally I felt that Jason Taylor and Kristi Yamaguchi were the best of the couples tonight, followed by Shannon Elizabeth, Mario and Priscilla Presley. The tear jerker moment of the night went to Marissa Jared Winoker, who felt she let her partner Tony down and broke down into tears. I can’t help it, I love her. Also Marlee Matlin is just amazing!
Dancing With The Stars: Impressions Of The Women
Posted by Dustin on 03.18.2008 at 10:34 pm
So last night was the men, tonight was the women. Overall I felt that the women did better than the men. Anyway, onto their performances!
Shannon Elizabeth and Derek Hough - They danced the Cha Cha Cha to, big surprise, some song I don’t know! (Shut Up and Drive?) I thought they were great, looked like they were having fun and being playful. Shannon seemed a bit stiff in places. The judges told her that she need to work on her leg work. They received a 7, 7 and a 7.
Monica Seles and Jonathan Roberts - They danced the Foxtrot to that song “Crinkles” (I think that is what it is called). Monica was very stiff and looked almost petrified. Her footwork was a bit off, I thought she was about to trip at one point. The judges felt she needed to work on being more light on the floor and to work on her core. They got a 5, 5 and a 5.
Marissa Jaret Winokur and Tony Dovolani - They danced the Cha Cha Cha to that song “Shorty Got Low.” You could tell she was having the time of her life, she might want to close her mouth a little though as it looked like she was always about to scream something. A little too much hip-hop dancing for me. The judges said that she had great style, but there wasn’t enough content for a Cha Cha and too much Solid Gold dancing. They received a 6, 6, and a 6.
Priscilla Presley and Louis Van Amstel - They danced the Foxtrot to a song I don’t know, a very bluesy song. She was very good on her feet, her upper body movements looked a little odd. The judges said that it was a beautiful and fluid dance, to watch her posture and shoulders, but a great job. They got a 8, 8 and a 8.
Kristi Yamaguchi and Mark Ballas - They danced the Foxtrot to an old big band song I don’t really know (notice a theme?). She was having fun, and it was a great performance all over. The judges said it was wicked, it was played beautifully, one of the best first performances, she made it look effortless. They received a 9, 9 and a 9.
Marlee Matlin and Fabian Sanchez - They danced the Cha Cha Cha to “Get On Your Feet.” Marlee did an amazing job, better than some of her competition male and female for sure! The judges told her that she was unbelievable and inspiring, but they will be judging her based on her dancing. They said she was fluid, moved with ease, it was amazing. They got a 7, 7 and 8.
On Wednesday (I think) one man and one woman will go home in the first ever double elimination.
Dancing With The Stars 6: First Impressions The Men
Posted by Dustin on 03.17.2008 at 9:30 pm
So the new season of “Dancing With The Starts” started tonight. This post is mainly about my impressions of the new cast. I was under the impression all the stars were dancing tonight. Silly me! How many seasons have I been watching? Tonight was the men only. Tomorrow will be the women, whom I’m looking forward to a lot more simply because I know more of them. Anyway, on with my comments.
Adam Carolla and Julianne Hough - They danced the Foxtrot to “Mellow Yellow.” Adam was pretty stiff, but seemed good on his feet. The judges basically called him Will Ferrell with a bit of John Cleese thrown in. The judges said his footwork was good, but like I said, he was stiff. They got a 5, 5 and 5.
Christian De La Fuente and Cheryl Burke - They danced the Cha Cha Cha to a song I’m not familiar with at all, and there were almost no words to help me identify it. Christian was very good on his feet. Plus he and Cheryl danced really well together. The judges told him to watch the hunching of the sholders, that he looked like he was almost riding a bike. They got a 7, 7 and 7.
Steve Guttenberg and Anna Trebunskaya -They danced the Foxtrot to yet another song I don’t know (”Lazy River?”). Steve was like the others stiff looking. He wasn’t terrible, but he was somewhat boring. I thought he had good footwork. The judges said he put his heart and soul into it, he looked like he was having fun, but compared him to Billy Ray! They got a 6, 6 and 6.
Mario and Karina Smirnoff - They danced the Cha Cha Cha to yet another song I don’t know (”Radio Man?”). Mario was good on his feet, great upper body moves and clicked well with Karina. By far the best male of the group. Again though, like Sabrina and Mel last season, he has the edge cause of his musical background I feel. The judges loved him and praised him pretty much all over, but told him to refine his footwork a bit. They got and 8, 8 and 8.
Penn Jillette and Kym Johnson - They danced the Cha Cha Cha to some song I’m unfamiliar with (”One More Time?”). It was exactly what one would expect from Penn, very comical. Unfortunately not very impressive with the dancing part. He was critiqued for not being very good on his feet and a little too much hip thrusting action. They got a 5, 6 and 5 for their scores.
Jason Taylor and Edyta Sliwinksa - They danced the Foxtrot to “Pride and Joy.” Footwork wise I thought Jason was good, his upper body not so much. He looked a bit stiff. The judges however really liked him, told him his posture was great and he was very graceful. It seemed they wanted a bit more emotion from him. They got a 7, 8 and 7 for their scores.
I hope the women are a little better than the men tomorrow night!
