Quick Ghost Whisperer and Medium Thoughts

Quick Ghost Whisperer and Medium Thoughts

Posted by Dustin on 01.15.2010 at 2:49 pm

So it’s a week late, but the last new shows I’ve seen were “Ghost Whisperer” and “Medium” last Friday. Unfortunately the only network TV channel I have had this week is CBS, and these are the only CBS shows I watch. I will have to play catch-up when I return home on Sunday.

Because I’ve missed “Housewives” and “Grey’s” I’ve been trying to avoid the spoilerish bits online so they aren’t ruined. It’s hard though!

“Ghost Whisperer” was an entertaining enough episode, definitely a stand alone episode. I guess I liked it though because Ned was heavily involved, and he seems to have been absent as of late. This was the episode where he was working as a radio DJ at the college station and was haunted by a ghost who died as a result of a radio punk-phone prank done years earlier.

“Medium” however I really enjoyed because it finally featured more of Joe working at his job with his bizarre genius still-a-teen boss. The interaction between them over Joe not liking his book, and his throwing a tantrum at his job review was great. The story involving Allison with the killer couple was good too, I could have done without the dead dog though!

I’m not sure if I’ll get to see the shows tonight or not unfortunately because it looks like I’m stuck eating dinner very late, unless I can change that, which I might. We’ll see!

On a side note, apparently the word is both these shows are expected to be renewed by CBS.

Ghost Whisperer and Medium: Shiney Bright Lights!

Ghost Whisperer and Medium: Shiney Bright Lights!

Posted by Dustin on 11.21.2009 at 8:34 pm

So on “Ghost Whisperer” we finally got a bit of closure with a lot of the loose ends they’ve been leaving this season so far. Some mind you, not all.

The little girl from the hospital involved with the Scarlett Stitch letters died of leukemia, but attached herself to Aidan. She was afraid to cross over, explaining how the shadows were haunting her and they made her feel all the bad things she did in life, and it hurt. We learned that the shineys are the shadows foes, and they can fight them off, but only if there are enough reflective or light things around to attract them and give them power.

The girl convinced Aidan to run away to someplace she wanted to show him (I forget why, I think the shineys liked the place) but once there the shadows overtook her and the shineys couldn’t come in as there wasn’t enough for them to get the power they needed (or what not). Aiden saved the girl ghost by shining his flash light on the shadows, which chased them away. In the end Melinda and the girls parents helped cross her over and assure her that they would fight the shadows and do what they could to help the shineys.

Now we got some explanation to these things for sure, but the University Dean’s storyline is still going on as he still warns Eli about the danger going on. Also there is still the morgue ghost at the hospital they have yet to resolve. I did like that they finally told that police detective the truth about Melinda, but Eli stopped short of revealing his gift. I think he likes her and they are setting her up as a probable love interest, which is why he didn’t tell her.

I do have to say, I thought the shineys and the shadows were kinda silly. Maybe it was this episode and the kids, but they seemed more like something kids would think up and be afraid of rather than something really terrifying to adults. The shineys looked like little kid spirits.

On “Medium” Alison ended up having to wear sunglasses all the time because she kept seeing bright lights, but when she put the glasses on, she saw numbers over everyone’s heads. It was a countdown of how many days they had left. She of course refused to look at her own family members. This and a visit from Joe’s dead dad reminding her that Joe isn’t much older than he was or his grandfather was when they started having heart attacks (which lead to their deaths).

Joe became concerned for his health, and when he was told he was fine except for stress, he tried meditating as recommended. This lead him to meet the president of the company on a lunch break, who also was a fan of meditation. The dead dad orchestrated it all so Joe would meet the guy, Joe’s as healthy as a horse. It got Joe’s foot in the door though and he’s been invited to dinner.

Meanwhile Alison ended up having to save Lee from his number being up. It all involved a case Lee was working on with a crime family and a crooked cop.

I didn’t think this was one of the stronger episodes honestly. I did like that we got some advancement on Joe’s work situation though. I always love when we see more of Allison’s family in the show.

December 4th Ghost Whisperer and Medium Spoilers

December 4th Ghost Whisperer and Medium Spoilers

Posted by Dustin on 11.19.2009 at 11:08 pm

After this Friday, don’t expect new episodes of “Ghost Whisperer” or “Medium” until December 4th. This is also the week many network shows seem to be ending new episodes. As of yet it’s unknown if these two shows will continue in December or not. “Ghost Whisperer” has done Christmas shows before, but “Medium” hasn’t had a full seasons to do one in years.

Ghost Whisperer and Medium Thoughts For The Ides Of November

Ghost Whisperer and Medium Thoughts For The Ides Of November

Posted by Dustin on 11.15.2009 at 6:39 pm

So while I enjoyed both “Ghost Whisperer” and “Medium” this week, I think I’ve been watching these shows too long, as the story in both were predictable.

Ghost Whisperer

Once again we got a mostly stand-alone episode surrounding the ghost of a real estate husband who felt his wife/real estate partner was jealous and killed him. They had been fighting for awhile, both unaware the other was making plans to try and reconcile the relationship. However the husband’s haunting of the wife lead to her demise, which was easy to spot a mile away.

Aiden was seeking the help of a ghost to perform magic tricks to impress his friend. The ghost is a little girl who is hiding in his closet. This ties into next week’s episode from the previews.

I wasn’t sure if the ghost girl was the same girl from the hospital with the scarlet stitch doll or not. You know it’s been so long since they introduced that storyline . . . and then did nothing with it!

Medium
The main story in “Medium” dealt with Ariel’s boyfriend, who Alison felt killed a man Lee was investigating. It turned out this guy was a hitman, who killed someone long ago. The kid felt he was this person reincarnated. Again, it was pretty predictable that the dead victim was the kids father, and it wasn’t him that killed the guy but the mother to cover up her secret affair. Zzzzzz

I did think the guilty mother was a horrid person for letting her son take the blame and planning to use mental illness as a reason to hopefully save him.

The fun story dealt with Bridget, who was taping her crazy neighbor and putting him up on youtube! Of course when the videos went viral, the neighbor wasn’t happy and threatened a lawsuit. She kept doing it, as she had dreams that she had to as the man would thank them. In the end it reunited him with some long lost girlfriend.

I thought the story was hilarious, but jeeze, take the camera away from the kid! Don’t just tell her not to do it anymore.

Ghost Whisperer: Beware The Shadows!

Ghost Whisperer: Beware The Shadows!

Posted by Dustin on 11.07.2009 at 5:27 pm

I have to say, I was completely lost on this episode. It started off with a former med student turned stripper who went missing apparently haunting a doctor at the hospital. Did he kill her? Nope. As it turns out, he was just a clue and a lead to another guy, the Dean of Rockland University where Eli works. The doctor at the hospital was in line to become the new dean, but this other guy (guest star Bruce Davidson) got it instead. This guy also knew the missing girl. Eli didn’t like the Dean because he kept denying him tenure.

Melinda talked to a watcher, who warned her of the Shadows, the bits of peoples souls left behind when they go into the light. He said the “Book of Changes” was so afraid of them that it makes no mention of them, to keep them from destroying it. However he hinted it might still hold answers. In the end the Dean was afraid of the Shadows too, they had taken control of his mother who is comatose in a hospital and were threatening to make her unplug the machines keeping her alive if the Dean didn’t keep doing what they told him to. One thing he was supposed to do was split up Eli and Melinda, that’s why he was denying him tenure, to try and get him to leave.

Okay I just didn’t get it. It’s like they’ve dropped all the storylines with the hospital they’ve set up and now have moved onto the Dean and the Shadows. Huh? This is starting to remind me of the sloppy writing back with Melinda’s so called half-brother and the souls under Grandview.

Also, maybe I missed it, but whatever happened to the med-student-turned-stripper ghost? Did they even resolve her, cause I don’t remember them doing so!

Some of these I posted before, but the releases don’t always come together for these two shows. Here is the entire month of November for both “Ghost Whisperer” and “Medium.” The final week (the 27th) is a repeat for “Ghost Whisperer” and my guess is the same for “Medium.”
