Harper’s Island: Who’s My Daddy?

Harper’s Island: Who’s My Daddy?

Posted by Dustin on 06.01.2009 at 3:08 pm

So this weekend’s “Harper’s Island” opened up the predictable horror story “mystery” with Abby. First the mini-cap, then some thoughts.

The Sheriff decided to search the hotel and all the wedding guests rooms. This led Malcolm to panic as he didn’t want his money found. He through it out the window, later to retrieve it and be caught by his friends. He had to fess up and they were furious. They said they had to go find Booth, to give him a proper burial; and later they were going to the sheriff with all this. Malcolm ended up burning the money in the furnace, only to be attacked by the killer. So long Malcolm!

The Sheriff found Uncle Marty’s cellphone in JD’s room, which made him think he was the killer. He set out to find him, with Henry in tow.

Abby took Trish to say goodbye to her father, thinking it would help things. Trish felt she had to cancel the wedding, for good, as every time she’d look at Henry she’d think of her dead father. By the end of the show though it seemed Abby made her think differently about doing that.

Abby began having memories of the day her mom died. She was supposed to go camping with Jimmy, they were gunna “do it.” However they witnessed an explosion on the docks. Wakefield returned that day and he started out trying to kill one of the deputies, that is the burned guy in the woods.

Abby went home, her mom was gone. Her dad called and told her to stay inside and lock all the windows and doors. She heard a scream and went outside, to find her mom and others dead. Then she was almost killed by Wakefield, but Jimmy drove up and distracted him so she could run.

The trip down memory lane was spurned by the appearance of the deputy (aka the burned guy) to give her a warning. He said her dad was after the wrong guy, JD wasn’t the killer, and her dad wasn’t being honest about Wakefield. She later confronted him, he admitted the truth. Wakefield came for her mother. Before her mother came to the island, she dates Wakefield in Seattle. Wakefield was nuts it seemed, she ran away to the island and they met. He said Wakefield came once for her, he had his guys beat him up then pulled strings to get him charged with attempted murder of police officers. He went to jail for a long time, when he got out is when he returned to the island, for revenge.

The Sheriff and Henry caught JD, but he claimed they’d look stupid when he was locked up and more murders happened. At the end of the show Trish’s niece Madison got a note from someone. She thought it was her dad. She went somewhere, I guess the note told her to, and she was kidnapped!

My Thoughts
First up, I’m not crying over Malcolm’s death. He had it coming for a long time.

Where has Cal been? His disappearance is suspicious!

They’ve clearly set up the predictable “My father is a psychopathic killer” story with Abby. I don’t think her dad told her everything, I think her mom came to the island pregnant. Why else would he have sent Abby away after everything that happened? Also if he had really shot and killed Wakefield as he says, what was there to send her away for? I don’t think the person in Wakefield’s grave is Wakefield at all.

Harper’s Island: The Mystery Deepens!

Harper’s Island: The Mystery Deepens!

Posted by Dustin on 05.24.2009 at 4:42 pm

I’m trying to remember what all happened last night on “Harper’s” to give some kind of a recap, but let’s just say that last night is a bit fuzzy :)

Everyone began to realize there was a killer on the island. Abby showed Henry and JD the stash of clippings her father kept, how he was tracking a possible Wakefield clone. JD reminded them that Kelly kept swearing she had seen Wakefield alive, so they decided to dig up his grave. The Sheriff didn’t stop them either, he wanted to see himself if Wakefield was there. In the grave was a skeleton, but are we sure it’s him?

Trish told her sister that Richard had been cheating on her with their step-mother! However the step-mother really did love Thomas Wellington, Trish could see it in her eyes and the way she reacted to his death. Something odd was definitely going on with the mother and Richard. They also began to suspect maybe Richard killed Thomas, and decided to deal with him. Unfortunately he’s been dealt with, as he had a spear driven through his chest at the end of the episode!

JD snuck off near the end, and was seen by the little freaky girl who talks to ghosts. He put his finger up to his lips so she didn’t say anything. Something is going on between the two of them as well, I’m not sure what though. I think she knows who the killer might be! Anyways, JD went off and knocked on a door of a house. The guy with the burnt face opened it and JD went in to talk to the guy!

Harper’s: The Dress Rehearsal

Harper’s: The Dress Rehearsal

Posted by Dustin on 05.15.2009 at 5:04 pm

I had completely spaced on writing up last week’s “Harper’s.” Here is what I remember from the outline notes I jotted down originally :)

It was the day before the wedding and they were holding the dress rehearsal, but the priest was missing (we know he’s dead). Meanwhile Booth’s friends began to notice he was missing, and feared he either ran off with the money . . . or something bad happened to him. The guy who knew he died went off to the woods to basically say he was sorry. He stood over some bushy area, but we never actually saw a body or body part of Booth . . .

Abby found out her dad and that fisherman guy she liked were way too chummy. She and her dad reconnected, but later she found all these news clippings in his attic about Wakefield and other random killings. It seems her dad suspected that Wakefield may have had a partner in crime!

Trish and her dad went for a bike ride in the woods, only to get knocked off by some trap set by the killer (this giant swinging log which plowed into them! Then some scary man with half his face burned sent dogs after them, forcing them to hide out. Trish finally told her dad that his new wife was cheating with Richard, and he seemed stunned . . . like he didn’t know. However he didn’t want her to tell anyone, saying he would deal with this. They did make it back home alive and to the dress rehersal.

Henry was talking with the wedding planner when the little girl and someone else seemed to throw firecrackers down near them from a balcony. Later he found firecrackers in JD’s room and was furious. He told JD they were done, not to come to the wedding. JD said there was one final surprise he had . . .

As the show ended, the Sheriff found the reverends body chopped to pieces in the lake! Meanwhile at the rehearsal everyone finally began to notice people seemed to be missing, some for a day now. The show ended with a giant blade dropping from a chandelier and basically splitting Trish’s father’s head down the middle!

Quick Thoughts

The show continues to try and set JD up as having something to do with what is going on, or at least knowledge. I think it’s a red herring though.

The Sheriff clearly thinks Wakefield didn’t work alone, and next week it looks like they open Wakefield’s coffin to see who is inside . . . Should be interesting!

I’m still not convinced Booth is dead. Did the other guy perhaps drag him into the bushes or think he buried him? I doubt he would have left him just sitting out in the woods uncovered, and we didn’t see a body when he was “talking” to him.

Harper’s Island: Stolen Money

Harper’s Island: Stolen Money

Posted by Dustin on 05.03.2009 at 3:30 pm

So this week “Harper’s Island” moved to Saturday’s at 9pm, it’s new time. I was out of town last week. While I saw it, I never got around to the write-up. Basically Hunter was leaving the island with the money Trish’s dad paid him when he was killed in his boat. Meanwhile Abby begged her dad the sheriff to look into that girls supposed suicide, and he found out it might not have been one at all.

This week Henry and the boys had a day for the guys, while Trish and the girls had their party.

The boys started with a bit of fishing, and ended up finding what was left of Hunter. Malcolm (the one who looks like Hurley from Lost) wanted to take the money. He had some business venture he was trying to start (a beer company) and wanted to keep the money. He accidentally, using the gun in the back, shot a whole in Hunter’s boat and it sank. The guys ended up agreeing to hide the money until they could decide what to do with it.

Booth was chosen to hide the money, and he went off to hide it. Malcolm followed him, clearly to steal it back. Well Booth, panicked when he was being followed and pulled out a gun. He shot himself accidentally, so it appeared . . . . He ended up bleeding to death . . . so it appeared . . . . Malcolm took the money and left the guy in the woods!

Meanwhile Trish was getting ready for her party and saw her step-mother getting kinky freaky in the basement with Richard, who I believe is her dad’s business associate and Trish’s brother-in-law.

Later Trish was devastated when something odd happened, all the china for the wedding which had been set out was smashed to pieces. It was her mother’s, she couldn’t replace it.

Abby went looking for Trish’s niece, who was in the basement playing with some weird dice or cards or something. She told Abby she wasn’t going to get the chance to be a flower girl. Abby asked who told her that? She said the spirits!

The girls hired a psychic for their party, and she kept having weird issues about Abby. When she got the list of the girls, her nose bleed and dripped on Abby’s name. Later she almost accidentally ran her over! At the party she ran off after holding Abby’s mother’s locket. She later told Abby to leave this island “He wanted her dead and wouldn’t stop!”

Back to Henry’s party, Malcolm showed up late, claiming he overslept. But Booth never showed . . . The guys hired Henry a stripper, who ended up being some girl he’s known since she was ten. Henry also confronted Richard at his party about cheating with Trish’s step-mom. Richard didn’t seem to be bothered, and even dared Henry to tell Mr. Wellington, he would probably be surprised by the reaction!

At the end of the show, a very drunk Trish found a blow-up doll floating in the pool. The boys had been carrying it around all day. She fell in trying to get it out, and suddenly the pool cover began closing over her. Someone dove in and rescued her. It appeared to be Henry at first, who was there when she was pulled out. However it was Richard who dove in, saying it was a good thing he was walking by! (This was predicted earlier by the psychic, who told her that her nemesis was a man, but would also be her savior).

Some Thoughts . . .

So Malcolm has clearly set himself up for death. Stealing the money and leaving Booth to die won’t go unpunished!

Is Booth dead? All we saw was him pass out from blood loss, next thing we know Malcolm is in his hotel room with the money. It also seems Booth shot himself, he wasn’t a target. Yeah this is suspicious, and I think we have our first “not really dead victim” with Booth.

Richard’s comment to Henry about his cheating was very odd. The end with him just happening to save Trish makes him look suspicious, but I don’t think he’s the killer. I think he is involved in some weird threesome relationship with Trish’s step-mom and dad though!

Harper’s Islands: BAM! You’re Dead!

Harper’s Islands: BAM! You’re Dead!

Posted by Dustin on 04.17.2009 at 8:35 pm

So the second episode of “Harper’s Island” premiered last night. I’m finding recapping the show difficult, because there are so many people, many of whom I still can’t remember their names . . . some I still don’t know who the heck they are! So forgive me when I don’t use the proper names!

The show was kinda divided into two parts. First up, Henry and his bride Trish had come up with this scavenger hunt for the wedding guests. During it a lot of “stuff” went down.

Cal, the English guy, got caught in some snare trap, pulling him up into a tree and leaving him hanging upside down. This other guy, whose name I don’t know, found him but left him. NICE! He had the hots for Cal’s girlfriend, so he decided to try and get closer to her. Fortunately she wanted nothing to do with the jerk. Meanwhile a poor old priest fell into the same kind of trap, and was quickly decapitated by the killer!

Abby, during the hunt, ran into her old boyfriend (whose name I’m forgetting) and his creepy friend Shane (whose name I remember because he’s an ass!). They were hunting deer, which grossed her out. When the two guys returned to their car . . . a dead deer was over the hood and “Psycho” written in blood on the windshield!

Later Henry returned to his room, only to find a deer head in his tub!

Abby ran into this goth girl at a diner, I think her name was Kelly. She really latched onto Abby. It turns out both their mothers were killed by John Wakefield. She envied Abby for getting off the island. Abby revealed her father send her away, she didn’t leave on her own. The other girl wanted off the island, basically begging Abby to let her come stay with her in L.A. until she got on her feet. She quickly apologized for seeming rude and presumptuous. She then revealed lately she had been seeing John Wakefield. Abby said impossible, her dad killed him. The girl asked then why she saw him?

Later Abby went to the girls house to invite her to stay with her in L.A. She thanked her. She then ended up in a kinky sex scene with Henry’s brother J.D., who is also very goth . . as well as a bit deranged. We learned last time he had tried to kill himself before, and he’s on a lot of meds.

Elsewhere, Trish met with Hunter, her ex, to find out what he was up to. He claimed he wanted her back, and brought up her father . . . . She talked to her friend about Hunter. We learned Hunter was basically a creep, which is why Trish dumped him. Hunter went to see Trish’s dad, yeah he brought Hunter there to stop the wedding. Shocker! The father clearly doesn’t think Henry is good enough. Trish later confronted her dad about Hunter. Her dad lied, saying Hunter came to him saying how much he still loves her, he felt for the guy so he brought him in to make sure things were over. Trish let her dad know she wanted to marry Henry.

The end of the episode involved a bonfire at the beach. Henry earlier had invited Abby’s former boyfriend, who was his best friend on the island too. He even invited Shane, before knowing Abby told him Shane and the other guy were hunting deer. At the bonfire he decked Shane, thinking he had left the deer head in his tub.

Cal’s girlfriend, at the bonfire, realized she couldn’t find him. The guy that was after her just then remembered, he left him strung up in the woods! They found him, alive fortunately. Unfortunately for the girl with the pooch, well she wasn’t as lucky. She ended up falling into a pit in the woods and the killer set her on fire!

The show ended with the goth girl (Kelly’s?) friend showing up at her house. She was hanging from the rafters, literally! Everyone ended up at her place as Abby’s dad the sherrif arrived.

My Thoughts

First up, let’s have a scavenger hunt on the creepy island where many people were killed not long ago. Yeah, great idea!

I’m not sure who the killer is at this point. I do however think either John Wakefield wasn’t the original killer. If he was, well then he has a kid avenging him.

They seemed to want us to think it is J.D., and I think as soon as bodies are found, everyone else will think it’s him because of his mental issues history.

The previews of shows to come I think were a lot better than this episode. The creepy little girl who talks to spirits . . . awesome!
