The producers of “Medium” said they were gunna blow it up, and they did! As cheesy as last season’s finale was, when they clearly thought that might be the end of the show . . . . I liked it better. This finale was just too dark and unhappy. I didn’t like that Joe and Allison didn’t get any kind of happily ever after.

Also I couldn’t help but, in the context of all the other shows the past year or so, feel this finale didn’t make sense at all. We saw too many flash forwards staring Ariel with Allison and Joe in their twilight years.

Well we kinda knew this was coming. I had expected this to be the last season of “Medium” from the get-go, but CBS has gone and cut the order down to a half a season, ending the show earlier than anticipated.

Star Patricia Arquette has told Entertainment Weekly that the show has been canceled and they have two final episodes to film – and not even she knows how things will end.

Last season in an episode that went into the future, Allison was the District Attorney while her boss was the Mayor of Phoenix. The latest episode to air hinted this was in fact the direction the show is going, possibly giving us closure. Devalos had just put his hat in to run for Mayor, and Allison has decided to return to law school.

Here is hoping it can gain some ground and come back (even if only a half season as NBC always ran it).

So “Medium” returned and two new episodes have aired on CBS. Sadly it’s not the only thing I watch on Friday nights now that “Ghost Whisperer” is gone. So far I’m enjoying it as much as ever. I really liked that the first two shows featured Bridget and Marie so prominently, as Arial got a lot of airplay last season. Though it looks like based on the previews (and spoilers below) she’s back in the forefront next week. I also liked seeing Joe at work, but actually miss crazy Keith as his boss.

The season premier episode, with Bridget and Allison switching bodies, I thought was pretty predictable in terms of the killer (homeless guys son). This last week with the park strangler I was pleasantly surprised because there were two killers using the same M.O.

Spoilers for the next two episodes below!

SCANLON’S HAUNTING DREAMS OF HIS LATE BROTHER LEAVE ALLISON CONCERNED FOR HER PARTNER, ON “MEDIUM,” FRIDAY, OCT. 8

“Means and Ends” – Scanlon is haunted by dreams of his late brother, leaving Allison concerned about her colleague. Also, while making her final preparations for college, Ariel has visions of missing young women, past and present, on MEDIUM, Friday, Oct. 8 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Frank Whaley (“Swimming with Sharks”) guest stars as Gabe Helling, the uncle of Rebecca Coakley, one of the missing young women in Ariel’s visions.

ALLISON CONTINUES TO FIND HERSELF AT ODDS WITH SCANLON WHEN SHE THINKS HIS LATE BROTHER COULD BE LINKED TO A MISSING GIRL’S MURDER, ON “MEDIUM,” FRIDAY, OCT. 15

Tom Wopat (“The Dukes of Hazzard”) Guest Stars as John Guillory, the Brash Yucca County Sheriff Who Asks Allison for Help with the Investigation

“How to Kill a Good Guy” – While investigating a missing girl’s murder, Allison experiences more friction with Scanlon after finding a possible link to his late brother. Also, Ariel deals with her siblings’ reactions to her leaving for college, on MEDIUM, Friday, Oct. 15 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Tom Wopat (“The Dukes of Hazzard”) guest stars as John Guillory, the brash Yucca County sheriff who asks Allison for help with the investigation.

So Friday night brought us the season finales of “Medium” and “Ghost Whisperer,” possibly the series finally for the later.

If that was the final “Ghost Whisperer,” I feel I would be satisfied. Both shows not only wrapped up the stories, but left us in good places, as if they knew chance for renewal might not happen. No horrid cliff hangers dangling the fans.

On “Ghost Whisperer” we learned Aiden didn’t listen to his parents and was still talking to the shinies, who as it turned out where crossed over ghost children. Aiden led them in a war to destroy the shadows, who were apparently trying to take over the world. This is why the shadows sought out ghost children who hadn’t been crossed over, they could become shinies.

Honestly I felt that the storyline was somewhat weak. This was all about a war of ghost children? This didn’t need a whole season to explain or come to fruition. But again, I was glad we weren’t left with some cliffhanger.

“Medium’s” entire episode had Allison dead and not crossing over, but sticking around to continue doing her job through poor Ariel. The whole show was a dream though, which I felt was fairly obvious. In the end Ariel got ready to head to Dartmouth for college, and Lee and Lynn finally got married. The show ended at their wedding with everyone toasting to the future.

I wasn’t that thrilled with this season finale either, but again, it was a good ending should it had been the series finale. Fortunately for “Medium,” which I enjoy more, it’s not. Allison will dream on, will Melinda make the leap to ABC? Time will tell.
