Private Practice: Blue Like Smurfs

Private Practice: Blue Like Smurfs

So I finally caught up with “Private Practice” as well last night. I have to say this was probably my favorite episode so far!

First the run down as to what happened. Addison had to help a newly wed couple have a magical wedding night. The woman had an issue with her vajayjay that essentially made sex painful. Addison was forced to turn to Pete for help. Pete dealt with the anniversary of his wife’s death, we learned he basically hated his wife and her death had lead to issues for him, given he hated her. Violet helped a patient essentially get the courage to leave his wife, but in the end he stayed with her as it turned out she had a terminal illness (which she lied to him about having). Violet deleted her own ex’s last message from her answering machine. Cooper dealt with the mystery as to what was making a woman’s girls turn blue and become ill. Turns out their were playing in a neighbor’s shed near poisonous fertilizer. Finally Naomi dealt with her anger over Sam leaving her and the fact that she still wanted him.

So why did I like this episode so much? I have to say it was Violet and Cooper’s story lines that made it for me. I know this show was devised as a spin-off for Addison, but I have to say I am not liking Addison! It just seems since moving to LA and joining this show she’s developed this “Poor me, my life sucks, this situation sucks” attitude. I just want to say shut up and stop whining! Cooper and Violet made the episode for me, as well as Naomi and her cake fetish. I don’t know how all you felt about it or the show in general, you can chime in with comments. I’m just wondering though, are they wanting us to be annoyed with Addison or are we supposed to feel sorry for her? It seems to me to make the “star” of the spinoff annoying isn’t exactly a great gameplan!

Private Practice: Episode Two

Private Practice: Episode Two

Posted by Dustin on 10.03.2007 at 11:30 pm

So I have to be honest, I only half heatedly watched tonight’s episode as I had so much going on. The episode dealt with two stories, Taye Diggs’s character (I can never remember his name) and the receptionist kid were dealing with an elderly lady who was poisoning her son, but because he was an alcoholic and she couldn’t get him to stop drinking. Meanwhile Addison and Naomi were dealing with a baby switch at the hospital, one of the couples involved were patients of Naomi’s she impregnated using invitro.

Now I know it’s only the second episode, and I know I wasn’t paying really close attention, but I wasn’t too impressed. It seems like each episode in this serious is more of a standalone type episode, whereas with Grey’s there is some overall story that connects them and continues. Again it may only be because it’s the second episode.

Unfortunately Wednesday night is crowded, I’ve got “Bionic Woman,” “Private Practice,” “Dirty Sexy Money” and possibly “Pushing Daisies” (I Tivo’d this to watch). I’m starting to think “Private Practice,” which is up against “Bionic Woman,” is going to quickly end up on the “record and watch later when I have a chance” list.

Private Practice Thoughts?

Private Practice Thoughts?

So tonight was the big premier of “Private Practice,” the Grey’s spin-off (which airs at the same time as “Bionic Woman,” my Tivos will be going haywire this season!) So anyways what are your thoughts? I’m still trying to remember all the names really, aside from Addison. The new Naomi (Audra McDonald) seemed to come off much harsher and more bitchy than the one from the pilot last season. I’m not sure if that was their point in switching the actors? Basically the stories tonight centered around Addison and Pete trying to save a girl who was having a problematic birth in the office, Pete and Viola trying to figure out why a woman basically lost it in a department store and started counting floor tiles, and Naomi and her ex (Taye Diggs’ character) fighting with a hospital because a woman wanted her dead boyfriend’s sperm to get pregnant. The crazy wacky Grey’s like medical stories were all there, but the players were just different. I liked it, but I’m not sure if I loved it. If it weren’t for Amy Brenneman (Viola) I don’t know if I would keep tuning in or not.

PRODUCTION BEGINS IN LOS ANGELES ON NEW ABC DRAMA SERIES “PRIVATE PRACTICE,” FROM SHONDA RHIMES, CREATOR OF “GREY’S ANATOMY”

Production has begun in Los Angeles on “Private Practice,” a new drama from the creator of “Grey’s Anatomy,” Shonda Rhimes, featuring an all-star cast that includes Kate Walsh, Tim Daly, Taye Diggs, Amy Brenneman and Audra McDonald. The series will air Wednesdays (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) this fall on the ABC Television Network.

From Shonda Rhimes, the Golden Globe-winning creator of “Grey’s Anatomy,” comes a story about finding a way to begin the rest of your life. Addison Forbes Montgomery is a renowned surgeon. Having left behind Seattle Grace Hospital, a broken marriage with Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd and her torn relationship with Mark “McSteamy” Sloan, Addison moves to Los Angeles for sunnier weather and happier possibilities.

Addison reunites with her friends from medical school, Naomi and Sam Bennett, joining them at their chic, co-op, Oceanside Wellness Center in Santa Monica. Naomi, a fertility and hormone specialist and majority owner of the clinic, and Sam, an internist whose self-help books have made him the “common man’s medical guru,” are newly divorced. They co-exist for the sake of their teenaged daughter, Maya, and their medical practice, but the relationship is hardly amicable.
