Project Runway: Mitchell You Do Nothing, You Are Out
Posted by Dustin on 09.04.2009 at 5:56 pm
So last week on “Project Runway,” Marvin (the guy with the Kajagoogoo hair) was sent home as his mother-hen-egg inspired garment was just a hot tranny mess. Mitchell found himself with a stern warning from Heidi that he had just barely made it by.
This week, Heidi wasn’t so kind. Mitchell found himself team leader and chose Ramon to be on his team. He all but said he did so because he knew Ramon would carry him through this week! Well as it turned out, Ramon did everything and won the challenge, with Mitchell being sent home for admitting he did nothing. Heidi coldly said “Never in the history of project runway has the team leader of a winning team been sent home.”
Frankly Mitchell should have gone week one when he didn’t sew a damn thing! I and probably all other fans are wondering how Mitchell got on this show. They have shown casting specials in the past, and you have to show up with a portfolio and gowns. Did he cheat his way in? Did he sleep his way in? Was the show this desperate this season?
I was watching a little of the “Models of the Runway” show last week, the show the models have that follows. The episode was basically about insulting and complaining about poor Mitchell. None of the models liked him, and the model he chose last week made it clear she was pissed he chose her.
It’s week three and Mitchell is finally gone. Frankly I feel bad for the first two designers let go as he skated by. I mean hey, I made a kick ass sweat shirt in home-ec in 7th grade. I feel like now I too can make it to at least week three on “Project Runway”
Project Runway Season Six Premier

So this is just a quick blathering of thoughts about the Season Six premier of “Project Runway” on Lifetime.
First, oooo-weee did they pick a cast of characters! Primadonnas, ditzy blonds, guys having nervous breakdowns, a woman living on another planet and an Asian guy who thinks he’s the lead singer for Kajagoogo. Yes this show sure can pick them!
I thought it was interesting that the ex-drug addict who was about to crack and give up had one of the best outfits, along with the boy from Minnesota who won the challenge and had no formal training.
Meanwhile those bottom three . . . what to even say? I have to admit even though that one girl was a space cadet, she at least sewed something. That other guy had a collar and a see-through cloth draped over his model. I kinda thought he should have gone home simply because he really didn’t do a thing.
It should be an interesting season for sure!
Meet The New Runway Designers!

“Project Runway” doesn’t make it’s Lifetime debut until August 20th at 10pm, but the new designers were revealed this Sunday during “Drop Dead Diva” and “Army Wives.” You can read all about them over at MyLifetime.com.
I can’t wait for the new season!
That Means You’re Out! Avita Zein Bravo

The long wait is finally over! “Project Runway,” which has been held up due to a legal battle between NBC (owners of Bravo) and Lifetime (who bought the rights to “Runway”) will soon be on our screens. The legal battle finally ended, with Lifetime walking away with the right and NBC apparently satisfied with whatever outcome they got it in all.
The new season of “Project Runway” hits Lifetime this summer. However there is more! It seems two spin-offs will run too. The first is “Models of the Runway,” which by the title will follow the model’s competition that goes along with the designer’s competition on the main show. There is also something called “Project Pygmalion,” which I’m not sure what the concept is.
Post Note: “Project Pygmalion” is a make-over show/competition.

For those who love all things “Project Runway” and are looking for a fresh new spin, look no further! I found out about this upcoming show tonight. Logo begins airing RuPaul’s Drag Race on February 2nd. Think of a cross between “Project Runway” and a drag show? The idea appears to be to design the most fabulous drag queen costume in various weekly challenges, to become the next supreme drag queen? It seems to be a mix of fashion and music. Oh wait, the best part includes the judges! Santino from “PR” will be there! Also Lucy Lawless from “Xena” fame. Tori Spelling appears to be a guest judge, along with her husband. I have to say, I can’t wait to see this. It will either be amazing or a “hot tranny mess.”
NBC/Bravo Plan “Runway” Like Back-Up Show
Posted by Dustin on 10.26.2008 at 12:03 am
So NBC, which owns Bravo, is in a battle with the Weinstein Company over it’s deal to move “Project Runway” to Lifetime. Basically NBC is arguing it was entitled to make a “first right of refusal” offer when Lifetime swooped in to offer more money for the show. It’s currently in court being fought out.
It’s not surprising NBC is upset, as “Project Runway” did in fact built Bravo. I mean does anyone remember watching Bravo before it? It was basically a 24/7 PBS channel that showed opera and other artsy stuff
Needless to say “Runway” not only made the network, but inspired countless clone reality show hits for it.
Anyway, The New York Post is reporting that NBC has a back-up planned. They’ve slyly sent out casting calls for a show called “Fashion House” that sounds identical to “Runway.” It seems part of the reason for the legal fight, is to delay the sixth season of “Runway” until the new show can air and steal the audience.
I don’t know, I think NBC isn’t realizing that while the contestants are a big part of “Runway,” so are the judges. I tune in to see Michael Khors roll his eyes and poo-poo an outfit, for Nina Garcia to tear the person to shreds and for Heidi Klum to point out say she wouldn’t be caught dead wearing that outfit.
Leanne Wins Project Runway!
Posted by Dustin on 10.16.2008 at 6:14 pm
Last night was the finale of “Project Runway,” idiotically put up against the presidential debates! The final three, Korto, Kennley and Leanne had their models walk the runway.
The judges loved Kennley’s outfits and her use of color, but again one of her painted garments was too much like a collection shown a year or so ago. Kennley finally admitted perhaps she needed to pay better attention to what was out there, though she didn’t set out to copy anyone.
They loved Korto’s use of color and her culture in her gowns, but felt once again she over embelished a lot of them. They wished she had held back a little.
They loved Leanne’s craftsmanship and the cohesiveness of her collection, but fear she’s going to be known too much for her “petal” looking skirts, and she might not expand from there.
In the end Kennley was the first to go. I was a little shocked, I thought she’d make it at least to final two. However it was Leanne who won the whole shebang.
I was not surprised Leanne won, her collection was the most cohesive of all of them. I just didn’t care for her lack of a variety of colors. It was too much like walking into Banana Republic for me, all the brown tones with one key color thrown in, which was the turquoise.
Overall, I think I was disappointed in this season. It didn’t have the drama or ooomph of past ones. Most of the contestants were just drab, though talented. Here is hoping next season, whatever network it’s on, is better.

So I’ve fallen behind with “Project Runway” thoughts. I think one of my big issues with this season is there is no real dramatic and crazy designer. There’s no Austin Scarlett or Santino to be zany and funny. What we do have is a lot of designers who seem to talk back to the judges though!
Keith, Blaine and Stella have all walked off the runway. None of them leaving really shocked me. However Terry going I will admit did, I thought she would end up in the end for sure. Meanwhile little meek Leanne who had such a poor start in this show is rocking it and I think she’s going to win. If not, she is sure going to be in the final three. I expect to see Karto (sp?) there are well. I am thinking Kenly or Latrelle will be the other at this point.
Hair And Fashion Recap, Plus The Cho!

On “Project Runway” this week, Chris March from last season returned to give the designers their new challenge, to design an outfit for a drag queen. I thought this was going to be the best challenge ever, but I think for the most part it fell flat. With no Austin Scarlett or Santino in the cast, there was no one to really go insanely over the top I don’t think. Some of them were good, others not so much.
In the end Joe won for his skin tight and very green superhero like outfit. I didn’t think he should have won though, I really thought the the girl who did the kimono like outfit should have won. Fortunately they did finally send poor little Daniel home. His outfit was ironically the best thing he’s made on the show to date, but it was not a drag costume. It was more of a costume for a woman going out dancing. Zzzzzzzz!
Over to “Shear Genius,” Nicole won the short cut challenge at the opening of the show, which got her immunity and a spot in the top three. Honestly without that, I don’t think she would have made it. This meant either Dee, Charlie or Daniel would go home.
The challenge this week was the magazine cover challenge. Each designer had to do an avant guarde haircut dealing with one of the four seasons. Nicole had winter, and had not expected her model to be laying down in fake snow, which pretty much wrecked her haircut. However she was safe. Daniel put too much of the focus in the back of the head, which wasn’t seen in the photo. Meanwhile Dee did her usual funky banged cut, which looked terrible when the model was jumping up and down as required for the shoot. Charlie did a good job, but was a little bit of a diva on the set.
Charlie won the challenge, Nicole was safe, so it came down to Daniel and Dee. Daniel was sent home, which got Jacklyn a little misty eyed. Honestly I really felt Dee should have gone home, basically because over the past few episodes someone on the panel always seems to note “she does the same hairdo every time.” That’s what got Paulo sent home, so why not Dee?
Finally, VH1 started “The Cho Show” this week, which is a reality show much like “Kathy Griffen’s Life On The D List,” but staring comedian Margaret Cho (who I love!). The first episode dealt with her getting the “Korean of the Year” award, which was something she was thrilled about but had mixed feelings over because of the reception she had gotten years ago from the Korean community. It was a good show, only a half hour. The best part of it is her parents. If you’ve ever seen her stand-up routines, then this is a treat because you get to actually see how they compare to what she makes fun of. However I doubt I’ll do much commenting on the show. It’s one of those shows that doesn’t lend itself to comments easily.
Also for “New York” fans, she should have her new show starting up soon (if it already hasn’t). Then on Oxygen is “The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency” which is always good for some drama (usually made by Janice).
You’re Out, And Your Work Was NOT Shear Genius

On “Project Runway,” the designers paired in team competitions in order to design an outfit for Brooke Shield’s character on “Lipstick Jungle.” The winning outfit will be seen next season on the show.
I really hate the team competitions, because I never think it’s a fair way to judge who should go home from the team. This time was no exception either. In the bottom was Keli, who had Daniel on her team. When asked who should go home, Keli point blank threw Daniel under the bus. She said while the design was hers, that she has been in the top many times, where Daniel was always in the bottom. Daniel felt it was her design and she should go home, and that he has very elegant taste. This made a fellow designer burst out laughing, as she kept saying throughout the show that Daniel keeps saying this but has never shown it in competition.
Now usually I feel the designer who designed the outfit should go home, unless the partner was a complete slacker or problem. This time if one of them had to go, I agreed with Keli, it should have been Daniel. I have not liked any of his work at all, even Heidi in her comments felt he was bringing nothing to the table in this competion. Keli however was sent packing, which is a loss. Daniel will be going in the next two weeks I’m sure. Also in the bottom was Blane, with his beach inspired outfit. Honestly I felt he should have been sent home over anyone, but he wasn’t.
Winning this competition was Keith, who made an outfit that was nice, but again I didn’t think should have won. They had to create an outfit that could go from the board room to the club, his was more of a night outfit. I felt Latrelle should have won this challenge.
Next week Chris from last season returns in a “Runway” first, a drag queen challenge! Yes they must design an outfit for a drag queen. This should be really good.
On “Shear Genius” the stylists had to cut the hair of their relatives, but not THEIR relative. Instead each stylist had to do the hair of a different stylist’s relative. Charlie once again won the challenge, which I don’t think he should have in this case. I’m also biased, as I really don’t like him. I thought Daniel did a better job this time around.
The shocker was who went home. It came down to Nicole and Paulo, and Paulo was sent packing. I don’t like him that much, but I felt Nicole’s cut was a little worse. She gave Dee’s mom this really short stiff looking hair-do. I like Nicole though, so I was happy to see her stay at least another week. Though I don’t expect her to win, I think she’ll go next week. This competition is probably going to come down to Charlie and Daniel, maybe Dee.
