Ab Fab Remake . . . Worst . Idea . EVER

Ab Fab Remake . . . Worst . Idea . EVER

Yes, Fox is planning to remake the British hit comedy “Absolutely Fabulous,” which will put Edina and Patsy in LA, along with Edina’s daughter Saffy.

If you’ve never seen the original, well you can usual find it on late at night on BBC America. The show is about two 40something women desperately trying to regain their lost youth while drinking heavily in every episode, which always gets them into trouble. Basically it’s “I Love Lucy” but without the husbands, a bit of filth and a heavy dose of Vitavegavitamin.

Christine Zander, a former SNL writer is penning it and Jennifer Saunders, one of the creators and the actress who played Edina is an executive producer. No word on who will play the title roles in the show.

Even with Saunders on board, I have to say this is probably one of the worst ideas to come a long in a long time.

So Long Witch

So Long Witch

Posted by Dustin on 08.07.2008 at 5:10 pm

So today was the final episode of “Passions.” They waited till the very last episode to finally expose everything Gwen had done, and even arrested her to boot along with her mother. Ethan learned Little Ethan was his son, and Ethan and Theresa finally married, which closed out the show.

As cheesy as the final episode was (having Tabitha get baptized to save the town from a volcano), and as many issues I had with how they ended some things (Tabitha losing her powers and not getting them back after saving the town and the people, also the fact they left Grace dead as a doornail) I will admit I got teary-eyed over seeing the show I had followed since the beginning end. When Theresa turned to the camera after marrying Ethan and told the viewers if she had learned one thing over these 8 years, it was to always follow your “passion,” I was sniffling. The final scene showed the cast and crew celebrating as balloons dropped and we heard Josh Ryan Evans (Timmy) singing “Should Old Acquaintances Be Forgot.” More sniffles!

Alas, to make the day even more depressing . . . I finally took “Days” off my Tivo list of things to record. I figured why not make it a two for one day. I try not to turn the TV on during the day to distract me, and at night I want to wind down with my other shows or a movie. I have watched “Days” all but once or twice in two months (though I’m sure I can still turn it on and figure out just what is going on by the end of the hour). With teaching in the fall and hopefully in the spring, my schedule is about to get really busy and I know I probably won’t have time for it anymore. If and when “Days” ends though, I’ll be there to see it out too.

Those Were The Days Of My Life

Those Were The Days Of My Life

Posted by Dustin on 06.21.2008 at 10:59 pm

Okay so this is a post some who read my blog might be interested in. A lot of people ask and probably want to know . . . do I still watch the soaps? The answer, kinda, but not really. Sorry folks, this post might depress or upset some of you.

When I stopped doing “the page” back in March I had every intention of continuing to watch “Days” and “Passions.” I had watched “Passions” since the beginning, and “Days” since I was in 7th grade. Unfortunately in March is when “Days” started going downhill and fast, at least in my opinion. Two weeks of the whole “Locked in Crazy Ava’s room” was enough for me, I just turned the show off and honestly stopped caring if I watched every day like I used to.

Since then I’ll turn it on if I’m home when it’s one’o'clock, but if I walk out the door because I have to do something during the middle of it, or before it’s even set to come on knowing I’ll probably miss it, I don’t really care. Does that make me sad? Yup. But if the show chooses to go in a direction that doesn’t hold my interest, then I won’t beat myself up over not watching. I probably see one whole episode a week now, two if I’m lucky. Usually I end up watching the days it is the “Phillip and Chloe” show, or like Friday when it was the “Max and Stephanie” show. I don’t like these characters, and when they are the majority of the hour, I tune out even when it’s on in the background. Don’t get me started on the never-gunna-be-resolved EJ, Sami, Lucas mess. They are the new Austin, Sami, Carrie; it will never end until the actors leave the show.

Only one other time comes to mind that I have been so disinterested in “Days” as long as I’ve watched it. It was during my third year of grad school and I was swamped with classes and teaching, so I stopped watching for about six months. It was also when the whole “Austin and Greta Virtual Garden of Eden” crap was going on, and that had a lot to do with my decision to tune out for a bit.

“Passions” I tend to have the 3 hour Thursday marathon on in the background while I’m doing other work. That show ends soon and since I watched it from the start, I’d like to see how it actually ends. Plus I’m stuck paying for this DirecTV so I might as well watch it! But like “Days,” I don’t pay attention like I once did (cause I had to in order to run the page). Come August when the show ends, I will call DirecTV and cancel that service, even if they don’t want to let me out of some contract I might be in (and think I am). I’m sure I won’t be the only one doing it either!

I do not watch any other soaps on other networks. I was always an NBC soap watcher, and doubt I will pick up any others at this point. I just don’t have the time anymore, and it seems I don’t care for the ones I used to like enough to watch them regularly anymore. I like my night time shows enough as is, they are enough for me :)

Please note, this isn’t meant to insult the shows or the shows fans. I’m just being honest about how I feel and answering a question many people have asked or might be curious about. Like I said earlier, it makes me sad I’m not as interested in the shows as I once was, but shows change and so do people. Honestly I wonder if I would have given up or just not watched as religiously as I did a lot sooner if I hadn’t been doing “the page.” If I see a change in the shows then who knows, maybe I’ll begin to watch more regularly again.

Dumbest Reality Show Ever?

Dumbest Reality Show Ever?

Posted by Dustin on 02.01.2008 at 4:41 pm

I knew with the writers strike that once the major shows ran out of episodes we’d be getting a lot of new reality shows, but I never imagined some of them would be as stupid as the ones they are putting out. The networks must really be desperate. Case in point, NBC’s “My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad.” Have you seen the commercials for this? Basically kids put their dads up against other kids’ dads, the fathers have to compete in some obstacle course against each other to prove they are the better dad.

Wow, I wonder how much brainstorming went into this show? I’ve seen some dumb reality shows, but I think this one might just take the cake for the dumbest ever.

Writers Strike: A Chance To Cacth Up?

Writers Strike: A Chance To Cacth Up?

Posted by Dustin on 11.13.2007 at 1:35 pm

One good thing, maybe the only good thing, I guess I can say for the writers strike coming up, I’ll get a chance to catch up on a lot of shows I’ve fallen behind with! I’ve all but stopped watching “Journeyman” on NBC because “Weeds” plays at the same time. I finally got back into “Weeds” after I felt the first half of the season sucked. It wasn’t that I didn’t like “Journeyman,” it just didn’t seem to be making much progress. Every episode focused on a new story, but the overall story was moving slowwwwwww.

I’m still watching “Bionic Woman” on Wednesdays, but my issue with it lately has been the same with “Journeyman.” They’ve taken it in the direction that every episode is a new case, but the overall story isn’t moving anywhere. We were told Jaime would die in about 5 years and possibly suffer the same fate as her nemesis Sarah, but that hasn’t been hardly mentioned since. Don’t get me started on the fact that the entire Sarah and Andros story has suddenly just vanished!

Finally I really want to watch “Samantha Who,” but haven’t been able to as too much is on at the same time! I’m hoping when the reruns start if they aren’t showing these over again, I’ll be able to catch-up online.

The Britney Controversy

The Britney Controversy

Posted by Dustin on 09.10.2007 at 7:23 pm

I had posted this on a personal blog, but am copying it over here. Technically I guess it is TV news, and everyone is talking about it. Feel free to add your own 2 cents (but try to keep comments tasteful!)

Like many Americans I am guessing, I only tuned into the VMAs to see Britney Spears open it. If you missed this, um, performance? Well you can watch it over at MTV. What can I say about this mess? First, the media is making her out to be a fat cow, which she’s not. She’s full figured, she’s had two kids, she has a real body. She probably should have made better wardrobe choices, but she’s by no means a fat cow. I know Britney loves to lip sych, but for her come back performance it was one time she SHOULDN’T have! She also stopped singing at times, as if she got confused or scared. As for her dancing, did she forget how? Terrible! She was stiff as a board. It is clear that she was petrified during this whole thing. Unfortunately now she’s being crucified! I don’t know, can she over come this? Will people buy her new album? Sadly I really wanted her to rock it, just to show the world and media who all talked badly about her. What can I say, I like rooting for the underdog.
