Weeds: You Oughta Know Alanis Comes Next Week!

Posted by Dustin on 06.29.2009 at 11:53 pm

So the previews for next week’s “Weeds” indicate it will be Alanis’ first of many episodes. I cannot wait! Though I don’t really think I want to see naked Alanis. Some celebrities I just don’t want to know what they look like naked!

I loved Jennifer Jason Leigh as Nancy’s sister, I hope they bring her back. However I really loved this latest episode. The way Nancy threw lit matches at poor Celia was hysterical. I want more of Celia’s daughter Isabelle though, she was one of the best characters on the show.

I also loved when the FBI agent got, um, aroused while chained up next to Nancy’s body guard and they were kick fighting each other. “No way, I don’t want to fight with you anymore!”

I’m assuming that the FBI agent is dead, taken care of by Nancy’s baby daddy. I’m not yet sure how much I like him anymore. Last season he was fun, sick and twisted, but fun. Now though . . . not so romantic anymore.

Spoilers also say a series original is supposed to make a surprise return this season. Conrad? Heylia? I can’t think of anyone else, and I could see Conrad coming to try and rescue Nancy. Thoughts?

The Weeds Season Premier

The Weeds Season Premier

Posted by Dustin on 06.10.2009 at 10:19 pm

So I’ve been mulling over what to say about the “Weeds” season premier. Basically it was good to have it back, but I guess I was expecting a little more.

Nancy’s life was spared by the Mexican mayor/drug lord because she’s pregnant. However he has his second hand man Caesar basically following her like a dog. Andy and the others found out she was pregnant and weren’t too happy. Nancy wants Andy to take Shane to stay with her sister, aka “Bitch Face,” while Silas, Doug and Andy are planning to grow pot in the cover of a national forest.

Celia meanwhile was held by her estranged daughter and her boyfriend, who called everyone they could to try and ransom her off. Nobody would pay for her. The daughter decided to just kill her and sell her organs, but because she had chemo they wouldn’t take that. In the end the daughter’s boyfriend dumped her because she was a mean nasty women, probably setting him up to be Celia’s new love toy for a few episodes.

The Celia stuff was great, the Nancy stuff . . . not so much. Next week Jennifer Jason Leigh joins as Nancy’s sister, so their interaction should be great. I still miss Conrad and Helia, who apparently won’t be back this season either.

Weeds Season Finale

Weeds Season Finale

Posted by Dustin on 09.15.2008 at 10:44 pm

As with the past few seasons, I’ve had my ups and downs with this season of “Weeds.” Some stories worked, others didn’t. Actually I felt like a lot of them didn’t.

I didn’t particularly find the whole Silas and his “milf” storyline entertaining. I also wasn’t a fan of Andy and Doug becoming coyotes, which seemed to go nowhere. Frankly I think Doug needs to be written out of the show at this point since I don’t even think he’s bringing anything funny to it. Sorry Kevin Nealon!

I did however love the whole Nancy romance with the Mexican Mafia leader, as well as Celia’s drug addiction story. In the season finale these were the two stories that wowed me. Celia being kidnapped and held for ransom by a daughter who hates her guts and we had never met was great. Nancy’s story, wow! As she was driving to Mexico I thought she’d end up in a car crash and that’s how it would end things. I never expected her to face off with the guy let alone say she was pregnant. Way to save one’s life.

What’s next? Andy, Silas and Shane are discussing moving to Mexico. How convenient. Celia’s being held for ransome there and something tells me Nancy is about to be locked up, at least long enough to give birth. I guess we won’t know till next summer and the next season of “Weeds.”

Weeds: Nancy Went To Mexico And Back

Weeds: Nancy Went To Mexico And Back

Posted by Dustin on 08.15.2008 at 2:27 pm

Okay I know, it’s been awhile since I posted on “Weeds.” It’s one of those shows I enjoy watching, I just find difficult writing about. I also seem to have a love/hate relationship with the show. Either I think an episode is really on the money, or misses the mark all together. Here are my thoughts on a bunch of the story lines that have gone on since I last wrote about the show.

Doug and Andy have decided to become coyotes. We aren’t talking about the dancing on the bar half naked ones, we are talking about people who help smuggle Mexicans across the border. Doug is in on this because he’s fallen in love with a Mexican girl and is trying to find her. For me this story is a miss. I am just not that into it. I think my main problem is the whole Doug aspect of it. I hate to say it, but so many other characters from last season were dropped or written out, Doug should have been one too. I am just not seeing the point of him being there still, and think he’s only still there because he’s Kevin Nealon. Even Nancy said to him in the latest episode “Didn’t I tell you to move out?”

Isabelle came to live with her mom Celia when her dad moved away and got a new job. Thank you “Weeds!” Isabelle is one of my faves on the show, I actually like her more than Nancy’s kids. Now I just want them to use her a bit more.

Celia has become a full fledged junkie, giving away merchandise at the store in order to get cash to by blow and heroine. Too funny that “Mrs Say No” is now a junkie. She was always the goody goody, the moral one of the show. Intervention time!

Nancy has started up a relationship with Esteban, who is not only the drug lord behind her whole operation right now, but the mayor of some city in Mexico. These two are actually smoking hot together, but I’m worried where things will go. Esteban’s own men are telling him that Nancy is a problem and he’s getting reckless. I think the sweetness of this (as sweet as this situation can be) will soon come to an end when Esteban realizes he has to do away with Nancy . . . permanently. I think that might be how the season ends, with a hit going out on Nancy.

Sylas is having sex with his neighbor, the hot mom Andy liked. Not only that, they are running a grow house in the back of her cheese shop. The one thing I liked about this story was Nancy confronting them, basically telling them they had no idea what they were doing or how to do it and of course telling the woman that her son would be 18 one day very soon! Go Nancy! This is another storyline that’s pretty much a miss for me.

Shane’s story has taken a hilarious, yet disturbing turn. Not wanting to be the bullied nobody at school, he smashed the most popular kid in the face with a lunch tray. Rather than make him popular, he’s now feared! The entire school thinks he’s nuts, and the goth girls love him. This is going to be hilarious, now just get Isabelle in as the side-kick. On the disturbing side of things, Nancy and Andy caught Shane with naked photos of his mother that he was, well, spending a lot of alone time with. Grooooossssssss! Nancy’s talk to him (and Sylas) was hilarious, and how she ended them with how they would never ever speak of this situation again.

Weeds: What’s In The Hole?

Weeds: What’s In The Hole?

Posted by Dustin on 07.15.2008 at 4:30 pm

So I’ve fallen behind posting about “Weeds.” Frankly I didn’t have much to say about the past few episodes, as I felt I was watching a replay of last season. It was all about Nancy jumping through hoops, having to prove herself and being forced to do things. Hello we did this with U-Turn and I hated it then too!

Fortunately it looks like things are about to change. A huge shake-up seems to be coming! First up Celia showed up, determined to get the goods on Guillermo for Detective Tin, in exchange for her freedom. Nancy of course saved Celia, who got caught spying, so she claimed Celia was her associate. Guillermo hilariously thought Celia was her lesbian stalkerish girlfriend with trust issues! I love it! Nancy also quickly took care of the detective, blackmailing him with what really happened with the cover-up involving Peter at the DEA.

Also in the real twist, Nancy is no longer dealing pot. What What What? I mean that’s what the show is about, but I have to say I love this new twist. This could really shake things up. She now is running a maternity store at the mall, which she’s sure is a front for laundering money. Instead at the very end of the show she found a hole in the floor of the backroom, which led to a tunnel men are digging, which led to some very powerful men in suits.

The previews for what come next look hilarious. Nancy and Celia, who is now her employee at the store, wonder where the tunnel goes. Nancy spies on the men, of course getting herself in trouble. It seems she sees and later meets with the head boss, who asks what it will take for her to stop snooping. She says answers, he responds “how about a nice hard spanking?” Looks like Nancy’s got a new love interest. How does she always end up with these bad guys?

I also wonder what the tunnel is for. My first thought was they were robbing a bank, but then realized it has to be bigger. My guess is a tunnel to Mexico to smuggle drugs and people.

Weeds: Smells Like . . . ..

Weeds: Smells Like . . . ..

Posted by Dustin on 06.25.2008 at 9:30 am

In this episode, Nancy was given an assignment by Guillermo, head to a specific body shop in Mexico to get her taillight fixed (which he of course broke), and while there she was also to pick up some medicine for him.

She was convinced that the body shop was hiding drugs in her car, and later got stuck in a traffic jam getting back across the border. Because she forgot her passport, she was forced to go through an inspection station. She was afraid she would get busted for the drugs, but she got busted for the medication Guillermo wanted because she didn’t have a script. They got confiscated.

Upon returning to the station she learned it was all a test! There were no drugs, they wanted to see how she handled herself at border checkpoints. He had given her a gift, a bobble head Jesus for the dash, which actually had a camera in it. Of course the hilarious part was that Nancy had to use the bathroom, but there was none, so she went in a cup in her car . . . all on video! Ew! I’m seeing this hitting the internet!

Meanwhile, Celia was left in jail by Doug and her ex, and she was getting the “bitch” treatment by her cellmate. Fortunately for her (and unfortunately for Nancy), her lawyer was beginning to think she really was innocent and Nancy was guilty.

Finally Andy got into a huge fight with his father over his gambling addiction and how they all, including his mother, thought he was a big loser. Bubby then woke up long enough to ask them all to kill her!

What I’m having trouble with grasping this season is how Celia, Doug and the others or eventually going to fit back into Nancy’s life? Will Celia break out and go on the run, trying to hunt her down? Will she realize she’s ruined and join Nancy’s operation? I’m also feeling a bit of Deja-Vous with the beginning of last season when Nancy was U-turn’s white-slave, but this time it’s with Guillermo.

Weeds Returns!

Weeds Returns!

Posted by Dustin on 06.17.2008 at 11:56 am

Showtime’s hit series “Weeds” kicked off it’s fourth season last night with a lot of big changes.

With the fire in Agrestic at the end of last season and Nancy burning down her home, she and her family fled. Not knowing where to go, she decided they’d go visit Bubby, Judah’s grandmother. Andy pointed out she hated Nancy, but Nancy said she loved her great-grandkids.

However upon arriving they found her hooked up to machines and near death’s door. Her son, Andy and Judah’s father, was there mooching off her basically. He was taking care of her, but selling her stuff off to gamble and buy wine. We learned that Judah’s father hated Nancy and didn’t want him to marry her, but another woman instead. He always pointed this out, even calling Nancy her name (Fancy), and Judah stopped talking to his father because of it.

The town they were in was right next to the Mexican boarder and Nancy met a Mexican drug runner and immediately struck up a business with him!

Back in Agrestic, the feds were closing in on . . . Celia Hodes! They suspected her because the house that guy (Matthew Modine’s character) “gave” her was found to be a grow house. She said the house was never in her name and she rented it out for money, it’s Nancy Botwin they wanted. She also implicated Doug and her ex-husband Dean in it all. When brought in, thanks to Celia’s daughter’s idea, they all turned on Celia and claimed she was the ring leader and Nancy was just some nice mom of two! Celia got busted!

I really enjoyed this episode and it looks like the “Weeds” I fell in love with is back. The first half of last season was too dark for me, the second half had improved. Right out of the gate this season it seems to be light and funny.

One thing I am upset about is the fact that Conrad, Heylia and Vaneeta are out this season. They will not appear and it’s not known if they’ll appear in next season, which could be the last. The creator of the show told Kristin at E! she is hoping for a spin-off of “Weeds” with them in it.

Following “Weeds” was Showtime’s new show “The Seceret Diaries of a Call Girl,” which apparently isn’t so much of a new show but something Showtime licensed from a production company who first aired it in Britain, followed by Canada and then a host of other European countries. The show is based on the blogs of a real life call girl in Britain. It was actually really good and funny!

Weeds Finale

Weeds Finale

Posted by Dustin on 11.20.2007 at 2:42 pm

So last night was the season finale of “Weeds” on Showtime. I had stopped blogging about “Weeds” because I didn’t feel I had much to say. The first half of the season I felt was a downer, but after Uturn was killed the season started to pick up slowly.

Nancy’s run-in with Peter’s ex infuriated me. I couldn’t believe she felt she was owed that money. You got divorced honey, most people change their life insurance when they get divorced! I get she felt it should go to her son, but she was a bitch about it with Nancy. Nancy was planning to give her the money, but the woman screwed it up when she hired a PI to find out was Nancy was up to. Oopsie! Nancy had to pay off blackmail to get him off her back, no more money.

I loved that Celia was forced to take care of her ex after he had his bike accident, and she tortured him into telling her about the weed growing business. Instead of turning them in, she joined them all! Celia and Heylia bonding at the end of the season was hilarious. I loved that they finally started giving Heylia more of a role again.

Nancy and company got messed up with some weed growing bikers when they were in between crops, and the bikers weren’t going to play nice. Nancy had to turn to the Latino gang to help her out. She and their leader had a little something going on all season, but it never seemed to go anywhere. I kinda wished it had. They helped Nancy out in getting rid of the bikers, but started brush fires . . . .whoops. It was an awesome season finale, but with terrible timing giving the real life fires that just happened in California. The show ended with Nancy burning down her house with the plan to start fresh elsewhere. Does this mean no more “Little Boxes” for next year? Where will they be relocating to? A change of scenery could be fun, but wouldn’t most of the cast be left behind? Hmmm . . . . .

Writers Strike: A Chance To Cacth Up?

Writers Strike: A Chance To Cacth Up?

Posted by Dustin on 11.13.2007 at 1:35 pm

One good thing, maybe the only good thing, I guess I can say for the writers strike coming up, I’ll get a chance to catch up on a lot of shows I’ve fallen behind with! I’ve all but stopped watching “Journeyman” on NBC because “Weeds” plays at the same time. I finally got back into “Weeds” after I felt the first half of the season sucked. It wasn’t that I didn’t like “Journeyman,” it just didn’t seem to be making much progress. Every episode focused on a new story, but the overall story was moving slowwwwwww.

I’m still watching “Bionic Woman” on Wednesdays, but my issue with it lately has been the same with “Journeyman.” They’ve taken it in the direction that every episode is a new case, but the overall story isn’t moving anywhere. We were told Jaime would die in about 5 years and possibly suffer the same fate as her nemesis Sarah, but that hasn’t been hardly mentioned since. Don’t get me started on the fact that the entire Sarah and Andros story has suddenly just vanished!

Finally I really want to watch “Samantha Who,” but haven’t been able to as too much is on at the same time! I’m hoping when the reruns start if they aren’t showing these over again, I’ll be able to catch-up online.
