OMG What a sad episode! Not as sad as last week, but still sad. So let’s get to what happened tonight.

The show pretty much revolved around the family planning an engagement party for Kitty and Robert, but it also served as a goodbye party for Justin, who was headed back to Iraq. Unfortunately Justin was called back 2 days earlier than he thought. He didn’t want to ruin the party and tell his family, because he had to leave the day of the party.

Justin tried to say goodbye to everyone by doing fun things with them, surfing with Tommy, “Wicked” with Kevin, but Nora knew what this was about. She wouldn’t let him say goodbye to her. She couldn’t accept that he might not come back.

Kevin and Robert’s brother Jason (Eric Winter) got pulled into the party planning, but Kevin threw a hissy over the hideous party room Nora booked, losing them the room. They were forced to have the party at Nora’s house as a result. Somehow with Kevin being a total ass, Jason found himself attracted to him.

Kitty had to tell her mom that she was in fact moving in with Robert. Not a big shock since they were getting MARRIED! However Nora was losing two kids at once, Kitty and Justin. Of course they are both grown adults, who had already moved out and moved back home, so it’s not like this was their first foray into the world. It was more the fact she was losing to Kitty to marriage and Justin to war. Symbolism and stuff.

The party got into full swing at the Walkers. They had to put a tent up in the backyard, which collapsed thank to Robert’s drunk relatives. As it turned out, Robert’s family weren’t the classy people one might expect. They were a bunch of wild partiers who were stealing all the flowers! During the party Jason and Kevin argued over Jason’s tacky relatives. Kevin continued to be an ass, which somehow turned Jason on as he “jumped his bones” in the closet.

Speaking of the closet, a HUGE secret about Uncle Saul came out in this episode! An old friend of Uncle Saul’s named Milo came to the party. Saul wasn’t happy about this and tried his best to avoid him. Milo had recently divorced his wife and told Saul he finally accepted that he was gay and came out of the closet. Saul seemed to want to keep that door shut though. We learned they apparently had some “Brokeback Mountain” fishing trips, and Milo told Saul how much he had missed their trips and him. Whoa! I wonder if Milo will be back next season?

Kevin meanwhile got a shock of his own, Jason is a minister! Kevin had no idea. They had a nice chat. It looks like Kevin has finally found himself a nice stable guy, but unfortunately we all know Kevin is not stable at all. Plus Eric Winter (Jason) has a part on a new show come fall, so who knows what will happen with his character.

Nora and Kitty eventually learned that Justin has snuck off in the middle of the party to fly to the army base. They ran after him to try and catch him at the airport. It looked like they would miss him, but did finally get to say goodbye to him. This was such a sad scene!

The show ended with Nora and Kitty back at the party, to find Robert’s family had basically gone insane and trashed the backyard. His family thought the Walkers were a bit boring, so Nora showed them by jumping in the pool fully clothed. One by one all her kids followed. The show ended with them, as well as Holly, Rebbecca and Robert, all in the pool with them. It was sort of a full circle thing, as the pool was the focal point of the pilot as William had his heart attack and fell into the pool.

It was a good season finale, but no real cliff hangers aside from Justin leaving. We still got no resolution to Sarah’s marriage or what is really going on with Rebbecca. The truth about what happened with Rebbecca and Joe didn’t come out, neither did Saul’s secret.

  1. OK, I’m not one to bawl at TV shows, but B&S got me this week. Kitty telling Justin that she’s not sure what she believes in anymore but she believes in him…. *sniff*.

I loved the scene at the table when Kitty told Nora she was moving out. Fantastic! Rebecca’s reaction was the best. I like that there’s an outsider around to bounce their lunacy off of.

I guess Milo’s appearance explains a lot about Saul. Didn’t exactly see that coming, but liked how they hinted at it at first and then gave a little more. Way to hook the audience.

I never saw the pilot so I’m glad you pointed out the full circle thing, Dustin. Hopefully they’ll re-air some of those early episodes during the summer. It was a nice way to wrap up the season though with everyone jumping in — even Holly, which was surprising. (Not sure how I feel about the tension being gone between Holly and the Walkers. What are they going to do for next season if there’s no Nora vs. The Other Woman??)

Will have to wait and see….

  5. I have been continually dissapointed with the show and the finale was very typical lately. This Drama has to become more dramatic and less silly. I could not wait for Justin to go to war as I am sooo sick of hearing about it.

  6. That was a great episode, I was so happy that Rebecca finally told at least Justin that she had something to do with the kiss with Joe, now if only she would tell Sarah

  7. LOVED IT! Just saw it tonight! 🙂 I enjoy sally fields soooooooooo much and it was funny and sad as usual. But at least there were no cat fights! I do have to say, the last episode with the twin dying was *far* more emotional than the finale. I cried, but I bawled like a baby with the last episode!
