Once Upon A Time: The Doctor Is In!

Once Upon A Time: The Doctor Is In!

Posted by Dustin on 10.29.2012 at 1:37 pm

The Halloween themed episode revealed finally who Dr. Whale was, and it was exactly as I suspected and was hoping against. The episode was mainly about Regina and her lost love Daniel being brought back to life by Whale, both in Storybrook and in the past of Fairytale Land.

Regina had been training to take hearts with Rumple, but she was unable to truly kill yet. She also wanted to use magic to bring back the dead . . . specifically Daniel. Jefferson showed up with his inter-dimensional hat and had a solution. Jackson has heard of a man in another dimension who is a wizard and can bring back the dead . . . . Whale was brought in, and referred to at first only as Baron. He was a man of science, not magic, and felt science was greater than magic. He used one of the magic hearts to try and bring Daniel back, but failed. Regina was devastated. Later we learned it seems the Baron didn’t really try, he faked it. Rumple “had made his monster” and for his payment the Baron got a heart to take back to his land to make his own monster . . . . Jefferson took the Baron back to his black and white world where we learned his name was Victor . . . . Yup he’s Frankenstein!

In Storybrook, Whale wants to go home, but learns Regina doesn’t have the power to send him there. She’s seeing Jimminy with her issues of not using magic, which she promised Henry she wouldn’t do in order to win him back. Meanwhile Whale used one of Regina’s hearts from her stash and apparently found where she was hiding Daniel, who seemed to be in a glass coffin. He brought him back to life, but Daniel became a monster and ripped off Whale’s arm! Daniel goes to the stables, having memories of Regina. Henry and Charming are there as Charming was going to teach Henry to ride. The monster attacks, but Regina shows up and tries to reason with her lost love. However he’s truly gone, and she’s forced to use magic to save her life from him and do away with Daniel. Elsewhere Victor goes to Rumple for help . . . he admits he needs magic to save his arm. Rumple gives it back, but we know it will come at a price!

In current day Fairytale lane, Emma, Mulan, Aurora/Sleeping Beauty and Snow learn their whole refuge camp has been wiped out save for one guy, Hook! He told them that Cora was trying to get back to Storybrook to her family. He lead them on a chase of her, which was to the beanstalk where Cora was looking for a magic compass . . . so Hook says at least.

My Thoughts . . .
I was disappointing that Whale was Frankenstein. I was hoping to be really surprised by who he was. At the same time, there are only so many Disney and fairytale characters they can use before they start running out . . . so the idea of Jefferson being able to go to other literary worlds open up possibilities.

The next episode will clearly be about the beanstalk and what is up there. We know the giant is. Not sure about Jack.

If magic can repair an arm like that . . . why can’t it bring back the dead?

American Horror Story: Sister Jude Sucks Em In Hell

American Horror Story: Sister Jude Sucks Em In Hell

Posted by Dustin on 10.27.2012 at 4:37 pm

So it’s been a few days since the last “American Horror Story” episode, so I’m doing my best to recall what happen and give my thoughts . . .

The second episode introduced us to Dr. Oliver Threadson (Zach Quinto) who was brought in because of a new patient. A young boy was brought in by his parents, and it turned out he was possessed and needed an exorcism. Oliver was shocked by this treatment, as well as the treatment of other patients. For example Lana was given electroshock therapy for her homosexuality (actually in order to shut her up), and he was appalled by this.

The patient turned out to be the real possessed deal, throwing people across the room and revealing dirty little secrets. We learned that Sister Jude used to be a very very naughty woman! Seems she liked to sing and dance in officers’ clubs, and later sing and dance in their beds. Fifty three of them to be exact! It seems Sister Jude has some demons of her own . . .

During the exorcism Lana and Grace tried to make an escape. Lana told Grace that she knew of a tunnel they could use. Grace wanted Kit to come too, but Lana refused. Grace seems to believe he is innocent. Grace brought him with her to the escape anyway, and Lana refused to go through with it and called the guards. June was pleased with her and offered her a reward . . . she would watch Grace and Kit be punished by each receiving 20 lashes on their bare buttocks, and Lana also got to choose the cane. Kit however said it was his idea, he made Grace do it. Therefore June spared Grace and gave Kit 40 lashes! My guess is this will make Lana think differently about Kit from now on . . .

Elsewhere, we learned Dr. Arden has his own creepy fetish. He likes to hire hookers and abuse them. He hired one to dress up as a nun. However she later found a whole bunch of photos in his dresser. They were photos of women being tied up and punished, and some photos which seemed to be of dead and mutilated bodies. Wow what a twisted bunch is running this asylum! The hooker nun managed to bite him and flee his place.

On the outside Lana’s girlfriend Wendy was crying to her friends about Lana. She wanted to recant her signature/statement and get Lana out. Later that night the killer found her in her house and seemingly did away with her. So we definitely know it’s not Kit, but we kinda knew that already. We can probably discount aliens, as this thing was either a mutant or wearing the skin of its victims so we couldn’t see it’s face. If it’s not Arden’s “pets” then I am gunna bet it’s either Arden himself or Kit’s deranged friends from the first episode. We did learn that Kit’s wife was found headless, so he thinks she still may be alive and with the aliens.

The episode ended with the boy getting the exorcism dying, and the demon apparently invading Sister Mary Eunice!

Grey’s Anatomy: The Sex Episode!

Grey’s Anatomy: The Sex Episode!

Posted by Dustin on 10.26.2012 at 3:37 pm

The latest episode of “Grey’s” revolved around relationships and sex. Definitely a lot of laughs in this one, but some serious matters as well.

In Minneapolis, Christina had become “sex friends” with the doctor who runs the hospital (Rex from “Desperate Housewives”). She learned through him that Dr. Thomas (Mr. Feeney) was going to be forced out because he was too old and a liability. She had grown to like the old guy and tried to help him up his game to stay around. However he had always known what was going on with the hospital, they have been trying to oust him for years. My guess is the minute he goes, Christina won’t have any reason to stay there and will high tale it back to Seattle.

Back in Seattle, Meredith had a really cool brain tumor surgery, but she felt the need not to tell Derek as he is still not able to operate. He found out and at first was upset, until Hunt told him that he needs to be bubble wrapped sometimes. He said perhaps Meredith was afraid he would run off to that trailer and grow a beard again. In venting to Derek, he also got out his frustrations about Christina. He feels she’s not going to come back. Derek told Meredith that he knew about her surgery, and she didn’t have to keep her good days from him, that he was happy for her and could live through her. The end of the episode saw Hunt move into Derek’s old trailer. Wait, wasn’t that always on the land where Derek was building the dream house . . . where Derek and Meredith now live? So is he in there back yard? That’s kinda creepy.

Jackson and April are still doing it like crazy, and Jackson’s mother Katherine returned when the Chief called her in on a surgery. Some guy had swollen testicles, really swollen testicles! Jackson had to confront the fact that his mom and the Chief were doing it, and warned the Chief not to hurt his mom. The Chief has no intention of doing so, he likes Katherine. However he also knows it’s unorthodox, as he’s technically still married to Adelle. I actually like the Chief and Katherine, I didn’t think I would. However they really do have to resolve things with Adele at some point.

Finally progress was made by Arizona in this episode. Arizona came in for the first fitting of her prosthetic leg, but her attitude was still not there. Even her doctor got fed up with her and left her alone in the room with her leg to go tend to other things. Arizona had made Callie swear not to tell anyone she was there, but Alex found out. Alex accidentally came into the room while Arizona was alone. They talked. He told her that they needed her back, and not to be to hard on Callie because this is hard for her too. Alex’s pep talk seemed to work, and by the end of the episode Arizona was working on walking. She also reached out to Callie and invited her to watch a TV show on the couch with her. Callie has been sleeping in Mark’s old place these past few weeks. I’m glad to see Arizona overcome her issues. Watching her just be angry was getting to be old. Mark and Lexie are dead, she should be happy to be alive!

Parenthood: Christina’s Cancer

Parenthood: Christina’s Cancer

Posted by Dustin on 10.24.2012 at 1:10 pm

“Parenthood” returned last night after a brief hiatus. The episode centered around Christina’s surgery and the Bravermans rallying around her. Haddie was still home from school, and shockingly her hair is still looking good for a change. She wanted to withdrawal from the fall semester, get a refund and just return in the spring. However Adam and Christina assured her things would be okay.

Christina’s surgery was the same day that Max was to give a speech to the school and then the school voted for president. Christina wasn’t happy about this and wanted Adam to be there for Max, but Adam wasn’t going to leave her alone. Haddie decided to be there for Max, and even gave him a pep-talk before his speech. Max hadn’t written a thing and got up there and basically said “Vote for me because I’ll bring back the vending machines.” Oh lordy! I thought they would have at least talked to him by now that he was gunna need a better reason. Fortunately with Haddie’s prodding, he talked a bit more. He explained how he had Asperger’s and the disadvantages and advantages to it. One advantage was that he was smart, and tenacious, so when he says he’ll do something, he’ll do it. Max ended up winning the school election! He probably won because the kids wanted the vending machines. Hopefully though his speaking about his disease will help him in interacting with the kids at school and gain him some friends. I just wonder what Max is going to do if he doesn’t get those machines back.

Elsewhere, Sarah moved herself and Drew in with Mark, but realized it was an over reaction to Hank’s kiss. She seems up in the air as to how she feels about him. Adam told her life was too short, do what makes her feel happy. I’m totally team Mark here. I like Hank as Sarah’s boss, and he can be amusing, but he seems to have a lot of issues. Sarah has enough of her own, so she should stay away from him romantically!

Amber meanwhile began dating the young soldier/vet that Zeke met at the veteran’s center. I really like them together and hope it works out, as Amber needs some happiness for a change.

The show ended with Christina and Adam getting the not so good news. Hey between things going well for Max and Amber, we knew the world had to come crashing down again. While they removed all the cancer, some of the tests revealed this was a more aggressive form of cancer than they originally thought. Basically they couldn’t be sure it was gone yet, and she would have to start undergoing chemotherapy and other treatments. Adam and Christina chose to lie to Haddie about this, because if they told her the truth then she would not have returned to school.

666: Henry The Hero . . .

666: Henry The Hero . . .

Posted by Dustin on 10.23.2012 at 7:15 pm

The latest episode of “666 Park Avenue” seems to have set Henry up as the hero that Gavin has been conspiring to make him. The Doran’s planned some political event/party where it all went down . . . .

Henry was called in by the D.A. and Mayor to help them nail Gavin for his real shady estate purchases. They felt Henry tipped him off to the toxic waste dump that infested his last purchase, which is how he turned it around and sold it so quickly. They were basically blackmailing him. Henry didn’t want to believe Gavin was dirty, and Gavin told Henry that it was the Mayor’s office that was crooked . . . Who is he to believe?

Meanwhile Annie, the obit writer, was still alive. Her Russian mobster Kandinsky was holding her hostage to find out her source. She didn’t know what to do as she made him up, so she claimed it was her editor. When she was able to get away, she ran to Gavin for help. After all he was Gavin’s idea. Gavin promised her that she’d “never see Kandinsky again if she did one thing for him . . .” The minute he said that, you knew Annie’s time was about up. He never said he’d deal with Kandinsky, just that Annie wouldn’t have to worry about him! Gavin asked Annie to write a story about how the Mayor’s office is in up to their eyeballs with the mob. She did as she was told.

Before the big party, Jane learned that Nona was the Drake thief, but also learned more about her. Nona supposedly lives with her grandmother after her parents were killed in a car crash, but grandma was always out and about. When her shrink came to see her, she always had an excuse as to where grandma was. It definitely seemed like she was on her own and grandma was dead . . . Jane befriended her and didn’t turn her in, but told her to make sure everything got returned to their owners. We learned Jane too had a hard childhood, so she wanted to be there for Nona. Later when Nona touched Henry, her psychic powers went into overdrive and she saw Henry being shot by a man with a compass tattoo. She warned Jane about this . . .

At the party, the story about the mayor’s office broke. Annie realized Kandinsky would then target someone there most likely . . . She rushed to the party to stop them. Henry faced off with the D.A. and decided not to give up the file on Gavin he stole from his computer, and that he had done nothing wrong in his interactions with Gavin. Suddenly Jane saw Kandinsky reach for a gun and warned Henry just as he shot. Henry saved the D.A., but Annie was caught in the crossfire of course. Kandinsky was arrested, Henry apologized to Gavin after the Mayor did look guilty, and Gavin had his hero!

Some of the other stories were far more interesting than the main story this time around. The little girl ghost was back, and kept trying to warn people about the bizarre suitcase Jane found and took to her apartment. At the end it opened up and this black smog which turned into a man came out. The previews seem to indicate that the man is Jane’s father? Then who is the little girl? Could Jane have a sister she doesn’t know about? Or has blocked out/forgotten?

Also at the very end we found out that Nona’s grandma is alive, but she seems to be in some catatonic state. Nona told her that she thought Jane might be the one to help her . . . . Something makes me think grandma is another victim of Gavin’s?

Once Upon A Time: Meet Captain Hook!

Once Upon A Time: Meet Captain Hook!

Posted by Dustin on 10.23.2012 at 12:16 pm

This week’s episode of “Once Upon A Time” was pretty much exclusively about Gold/Rumple and Belle.

In Storybrook, Belle went missing. Her father, with his memory back, returned and stole her away from “The Beast.” When he learned she wanted to be with him, he tried to have Mr. Smee smuggle her out through the mines, where the dwarfs were searching for fairy dust. Gold asked the new acting sheriff Charming to help him find Belle. They found her just in time before she crossed the town limits and forgot everything . . .

In Fairytale Land’s past, we learned about Rumple and his wife, Bey’s mom. She was very unhappy with him. Captain Hook (before he was Hook) came to town and stole her away. When Rumple begged for her back, he demanded they duel. Being the coward he was, he wouldn’t fight him. Years later as “The Dark One” he sought out Hook, who claimed his wife died long ago. That was a lie, we learned the wife was a live and happy with Hook. Rumple was livid that she left not only him, but their son. He ripped her heart out, and then cut off Hook’s hand.

The final few scenes showed Fairytale Land as it is now. We learned Hook’s ship got stranded during the curse somehow, and he is safe. We saw him with Cora! She’s planning to use the portal to get to her daughter and grandson, and Hook wants to find Rumple and get revenge . . . .

I thought it was an okay episode, but nothing special. It was a back-story filler episode before sweeps. I actually enjoyed the previews of the next episode more than this one. It seems the show is planning a “Halloween” themed episode for us during which it appears Dr. Whale brings Regina’s former love, the stable boy, back to life. I hope they aren’t going to make him Dr. Frankenstein. That would be so out of whack with everyone else. However I know of no fairytales that dealt with the topic. Hopefully it’s just something for the holiday.
