Parenthood: Cancer And Other Problems . . .

Parenthood: Cancer And Other Problems . . .

Posted by Dustin on 09.30.2012 at 5:16 pm

So the big storyline so far on “Parenthood” seems to be Christina’s cancer. She has just been recently diagnosed with breast cancer. As of yet we don’t know what stage, or how far it’s spread. Adam told Amber about it, only because he was going to need her help a lot in the next few weeks/months, and she was wondering why he was treating her as more of an errand/servant as of late. Something tells me this story is going to serve to bring Haddie home from college. She’ll probably transfer to a local college, or simply take time off from school to help her mom and family.

Max has started to become as annoying as his sister Haddie in my opinion. I get his Asperger’s is always going to be a big part of the show, and that they are portraying it very realistically . . . but sometimes I’d rather see other storylines for a change. With Haddie now gone (maybe?), I worry he will dominate the storylines for a lot of the season. His constant fixation on the candy machine at school this week, the loss of a friend, and now his wanting to run for President is going to probably try my patience. Actually this whole show often does, and sometimes I wonder why I continue with it at times. Oh yeah, nice eye candy to look at!

I loved the storyline with Julia standing by in the parking lot all day while Victor went into school. It was so sweet! However something will end up derailing this family. I’m gunna guess that once Victor finally feels settled and secure, Julia will miraculously get pregnant now that she and Joel aren’t so fixated on that anymore. With a new baby, Victor may feel like he won’t count as much. Frankly I really want to see Julia and Joel to get more of a front burner storyline for a change. Last season they had one, but it involved that awful coffee girl and we knew it was going to end badly from the beginning.

I’m still not feeling Sarah and her new boss that much yet. My main issue is unlike much of America, I never loved Raymond . . . . So I’m having a hard time warming up to wherever this storyline is going.

In the latest episode Zeke faced some issues with his unrenewed drivers license and being arrested while the grandkids were in the car. Crosby had to finally tell his siblings that there dad has some heart issues, which we still have never learned the whole story about. We didn’t this week either. However I think the fact that they brought it up probably means bad news at some point this season for Zeke. I could see Christina winning her health battle, but Zeke being up in the air by the end of the season.

Grey’s Anatomy Season Premier Thoughts

Grey’s Anatomy Season Premier Thoughts

Posted by Dustin on 09.28.2012 at 1:03 pm

So last night was the big premier. We picked up several weeks after the plane crash it seems. Meredith is now an attending, though I’m not exactly sure what in? I’m assuming Neurosurgery as planned. Christina is stuck in Minneapolis working in some freakish hospital where everyone is happy and cheerful and helpful. It’s a smurf hospital, and she is grouchy smurf. Alex is planning to head out to John’s Hopkins, but has guilt as he was supposed to be on the plane that crashed and wasn’t. Derek has gone through surgeries for his hands, but it’s still not working properly. There was no update on Adele, but the old Chief and the new Chief are still around. It seems Owen and Christina are over for the moment. A new batch of first years arrived, and Meredith is the new Bailey. Her nickname is Medusa. Bailey meanwhile is pissed because she’s no longer the Nazi, she’s BCB . . . which means Booty Call Bailey! Her relationship has softened her, and it’s been noticed by others.

By the end of the episode shocks and sadness. Mark was on a ventilator, and had orders to be removed after 30 days if there were no signs of improvement. Mark was taken off it and died. I just can’t believe McSteamy is gone . . . it was so sad! It also appeared through most of the episode Arizona had died too. People kept telling Callie how sorry they were, and a new guy came in to take over the pediatric department. When it was clear he was going ruin Arizona’s legacy, Alex refused to go to John’s Hopkins and stayed to take it over. However Arizona is not dead! We learned she had her leg (or legs?) amputated, and has been in bed battling depression. She seemingly blames Callie for being the one to take it as well. April left the hospital after Owen fired her and went back to her family’s farm. Owen showed up saying what he did was wrong, and offered her a job. Finally Christina was told to take some time off from the hospital she’s at because she didn’t seem to be meshing with the other happy people there. It’s clear she’ll return to take over Cardio with Teddy also gone from the show.

Next week’s episode is a flashback episode that will fill in the blanks of what happened between this week’s show and the plane crash.

I’m still upset over Mark’s death, even though it was easy to guess it was coming. It’s just so depressing. The teases and twist with Arizona at the end was really shocking. I would have been even more pissed if they were both dead. I’m glad April is coming back as well, and love the interns and Meredith’s interactions. I was excited to see one of the new interns is the Tech Vampire from “True Blood!”

Private Practice’s Not So Shocking Death

Private Practice’s Not So Shocking Death

Posted by Dustin on 09.26.2012 at 5:21 pm

So the new season of “Private Practice” began last night. First let’s talk about how the show played out format wise. I don’t know if this was just for the pilot, or is a new format that will go on all season, but I hated it! If you haven’t seen it, or gave up on the show, here are the details. Basically each of the main characters starts off their day, and because we don’t know their name, it tells us on the screen . . . “Violet” or “Addison and Henry.” We see them go through their day, interact with the others, until a big moment! Then we shift to the next character, and so on and so on. we see some scenes replay, but from a different perspective that is supposed to make us say “aha!” Eventually at the end everything began to converge. This isn’t a new idea, other shows and movies have done it. I don’t know if it’s to revitalize the show, or if it was just for the pilot . . . but I hated it! Please go back to the linear format.

The big, well not really that big, shock was the death of a major character. We all knew Pete was being written out. Instead of sending him to jail, or making him jump bail as they tried to allude to through most of the show, they killed him off. Pete went for a run, had a heart attack, and died all by himself on some mountain trail. Seriously? What a crappy way to kill Pete off! I mean I loathed him last season, but damn that is cold.

We did get one happy surprise during the season premier. Charlotte and Cooper are pregnant! Charlotte had an IED, so this came as a huge shock obviously. Most of the episode had Cooper loving it, but Charlotte not sure if she wanted this . . . In the end we learned they aren’t just having a baby, they are having three! These two, along with Sheldon and Amelia are the only reason I watch this show anymore.

Addison made her choice, which was Jake. Hallelujah, AddiSam is over! Jake however was scaring her away a bit with his clingy female patients, and his desire to move in with her by the end of the show. Kate Walsh has stated this is her final season, so my guess is Jake and Addison just won’t work out . . . shocker!

Sheldon is back with his ex, kinda. They have this weird fly out and spend 4 days a month together having sex deal, which you know won’t last. Sheldon also got some kind of news from Sam about his blood work after a physical. As far as I know, we didn’t hear the results. However we did see Sheldon knocking back scotches by the end of the episode. My guess is an STD, or something worse? Meanwhile Emilia has been a year sober, but it’s becoming apparent she has strong feelings Sheldon . . . but their schedules aren’t in synch. When one loves the other, the other doesn’t love them!

At the end of the episode we saw Addison get a shocking call. This, coupled with spoilers that have Addison secretly grieving, make me think we’ve just had another not so shocking death conformed. We know Mark Sloan is leaving “Grey’s Anatomy,” and my guess is he’s dead too!

Last Resort: Thoughts on the Pilot

Last Resort: Thoughts on the Pilot

Posted by Dustin on 09.25.2012 at 7:06 pm

So I watched the pilot of “Last Resort” online. If you’ve seen any of the commercials, you pretty much know everything that occurs in the pilot.

The show is about a submarine, The Colorado, which is given an order to fire on Pakistan. They question it, because all evidence suggests there is no reason to do so. When they don’t fire, another ship tries to nuke them . . . and then fires on Pakistan. The U.S. government claims The Colorado was sank by Pakistan, and they retaliated. There are more twists and turns, such as a U.S. President about to be impeached, which seems to lead us to believe much much more is going on. The Colorado takes refuge on some island in the Pacific, takes it over, and vows to start a nuclear war and burn the world if governments don’t stand down . . .

I actually really enjoyed the pilot, and will continue to watch the show. My main issue is, how will they continue this past one season? It just seems to me that the show can only go on for so long . . . Also I feel the show will be tagged as Anti-American, and therefore end up the subject of boycotts which are so in fashion these days. Therefore it’s hard to commit to the show, if it won’t last even a season.

Army Wives Season 7 Is A Go!

Army Wives Season 7 Is A Go!

Posted by Dustin on 09.21.2012 at 7:32 pm

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Lifetime has renewed “Army Wives” for a seventh season, but the season will only be 13 episodes.

It’s very likely that this will be the final season of the show, as many of the original wives have moved on. Pamela, played by Brigid Brannagh, moved to California with her family at the start of the last season. Sally Pressman, who plays Roxy LeBlanc, may not be a part of the show next season as the actress has a talent deal with NBC. Roxy, Trevor and the kids moved on from Ft. Marshall with new orders.

The fate of Kim Delaney remains to be seen as well, as the actress was absent for most of the second half of this last season. The final cliff hanger featuring Michael getting bad news over the phone, which we all were lead to believe was the plane carrying the troops going down, could just as easily be a way to kill off Claudia Joy.

The New Normal Thoughts . . .

The New Normal Thoughts . . .

Posted by Dustin on 09.19.2012 at 8:49 pm

So we are now three episodes into “The New Normal,” NBC’s new Tuesday night comedy. If you have by chance been living under a rock and haven’t heard of the show, it’s about two gay guys (Bryan and David) who decide to start a family, and the woman (Goldie) who agrees to be a surrogate to use the money and better her and her daughter’s (Shania) life. Along the way, they all become a family, much to the dismay of the woman’s grandma (Jane), who has a lot to say on such things.

I am really enjoying it, and I absolutely love Ellen Barkin’s character Jane and the nasty insults that come out of her mouth. Obviously I don’t approve of the insults, but they are just so over the top and comical that you have to laugh at them and her! I also love Shania, she is adorable. When she was doing “Grey Gardens” in the second episode it was just hysterical!

I do however worry that they are really racing ahead fast with the storyline. I mean Goldie was pregnant in episode one! Are they going to have this kid by the end of the first season (assuming it doesn’t get canned before then). If so, where do they go from there? I guess it does make sense, but they just seem to be going so fast. I know, I know . . . it’s TV! Or will there be a hiccup along the way? They really emphasized all that could go wrong with a pregnancy in the latest episode. I began to worry that might be foreshadowing that things aren’t going to be so easy.

Parenthood Returns, People Get Dumped

Parenthood Returns, People Get Dumped

Posted by Dustin on 09.18.2012 at 2:57 pm

“Parenthood” returned last week, and it seems a bit of time has passed since the last season finale, though we’re not sure how much. It appears we skipped over the summer and are at the beginning of a new school year . . . .

Crosby and Jasmine ended up having an issue with Jasmine’s mom teaching Jabbar about religion, without asking them what they believed or wanted to teach him. Jasmine felt church was important to her growing up, but now she no longer went. Meanwhile Crosby didn’t know what his family believed, so he asked his parents. The best scene of the show was Zeke and Camille discussing their hippy past, trying out Buddhism for awhile, and of course their tantric period . . . . TMI parents!

Joel and Julia are trying to adjust to life with their new son Victor, but it’s not been easy. They’ve been so eager to please him so that he’ll like them that they let him get away with murder. By the end of the episode Julia admitted that “she’s waiting to fall in love with their son . . . . ” Ouch! I hope this storyline ends well, but poor Joel and Julia always seem to get screwed over in the end.

Haddie is off to college, and the Bravermans said goodbye to her in this episode. I’m sure she’ll still be a huge part of the show. Perhaps we’ll end up seeing her adventures at college? Honestly given how much of last season her character took up with a storyline I loathed, I wouldn’t mind a break from Haddie for awhile.

Amber is now working for Adam and Crosby at the Luncheonette. Hmmmm, what happened with the congressman? I can’t remember if he won, or lost, or what? Anyway, one of the guys from “American Idol” a season or two ago was the guest star, recording with his band. Amber of course ended up in bed with him, and it turned out he had a fiance and was a jerk. Clearly she didn’t learn much from her other job! I do love Amber though, and would like to see her head to community college and take some classes, which I thought was the plan?

Sarah is looking for a new job, and landed one as the assistant to a photographer (Ray Romano). He is clearly very interested in her, in spite of the presence of Mark. Mark meanwhile dealt with Sarah’s family and her unwillingness to stand up for him so he could be in the family portrait. Camille has a rule no non-official family members, after an ex-girlfriend of Crosby’s has forever marred an old portrait. Mark felt left out, he was Sarah’s fiance. In the end, he got into the photo . . . . which I feel is a bad omen. I hate the idea that they will break Sarah and Mark up after all this! So far I’m not feeling Sarah and Ray at all.

Meanwhile poor Drew got dumped by his girlfriend, who seems to have met someone new while away for the summer. Maybe now Drew will finally come out of the closet?

Glee Is Back! Thoughts on “The New Rachel”

Glee Is Back! Thoughts on “The New Rachel”

Posted by Dustin on 09.14.2012 at 7:26 pm

“Glee” returned last night for its forth season, and the first season where the original kids have graduated and moved on. Sadly we only saw Rachel and Kurt in this episode, though heard about a few others. Santana did end up going to the school where she got a cheer-leading scholarship, at least that’s what Britney said. Something tells me she may not really be there? Mike went to dance school, and Tina and him have broken up because of the distance. Finn is in the army, but hasn’t talked to Rachel in two months. As for the others? I’m sure we’ll hear and see them soon.

The Glee Club had become the coolest group in school after their nationals win, but predictably that didn’t last long at all. By the end of the episode they were back to being the uncool kids when they didn’t agree with the new cool Cheerios girl and the new head jocks, who all enjoyed making fun of the new lunch lady. The lunch lady turned out to be the mom of a new girl who joined the Glee Club in this episode.

The club held auditions to find new members. Unique/Wade already transferred in from their arch-rival school. They also added the lunch lady’s daughter, as well as Jake Puckerman, Noah’s brother. Actually he’s not in yet officially, but he will be. It’s also somehow a secret he is Puckerman’s brother??? Will found out through his file, he’s Noah’s half brother, and Noah doesn’t know. Really? How is that even possible?

Kurt was going to start community college classes and apply to NYADA again for spring. However with Blaine and his dad’s blessing (and pushing) he decided to go to New York and try and make things happen. Meanwhile in New York, Rachel’s school year hasn’t been the amazing experience she hoped for. Her roommate is a nympho, her dance teacher (Kate Hudson) is crazy, and she’s met a boy who clearly likes her . . . . In the end Kurt showed up and they decided to get an apartment together.

On the teacher side of things, Sue has had her baby which she named Robin, but Beastie and Emma were nowhere to be seen in this episode.

Overall I really liked the episode. I of course missed Finn, Quinn, Mercedes, Santana . . . and even Becky was absent! I am looking forward to seeing how they weave them all back into the show, but also use the new characters.
