Heroes Season Finale: Explosive or A Dud?

Heroes Season Finale: Explosive or A Dud?

So it was the season finale of “Heroes” tonight. The bomb was set to go off and our heroes had to save the world. The bomb went off all right, but was it a dud? I was very disappointed by this finale! Let’s get into it.

The beginning of the show was basically a rehash/recap of how it ended last week. There was just so much going on, our heroes were all over the place in this one. I think that annoyed me a bit, I would have liked to see them all working together more.

DL killed Linderman and then Nikki/Jessica got him out of there, chastising him for not phasing and letting the bullet go through him. I thought the same thing myself. She then had to rescue Micah from the shape shifter alone. The shape shifter took on her identity (the bad sister Jessica) and told her she was the stronger one and Nikki should have died. Nikki found the power within her to beat her and rescue Micah. It looks like Jessica is gone and Nikki now has control of her super strength, which formerly only Jessica had.

Mr. Bennet and Parkman got to Molly, but Surresh protected her. When Parkman saw Molly, he did as well. Yea for Parkman! They decided to use Molly to try and find Sylar and stop him.

Hiro had to save Ando again from Sylar, and then dropped him off back in Japan, because this was his fight and Ando had done his part, showing him how to be brave.

Peter tried to go to Nathan for help, which freaked Claire. Claire knows he’s bad, but Peter wouldn’t believe it. Claire ran off, only to be caught by the Grandma from hell (I’m starting to loath this woman!). Peter meanwhile read Nathan’s mind and realized Claire was right, Nathan was in on the bomb to become president.

Peter ran off and almost went nuclear, but had this odd time-traveling dream to when he first went to work for Simone and her dad. We learned Simone’s dad had powers and was one of the Linderman group. He watched his mom talk to the guy, basically saying Peter was weak and Nathan was strong, so Nathan would lead after the bomb went off. HARSH! That had to kill him to basically hear his mom talk about letting him die for his brother to succeed. Then Peter was clued in by Simone’s father on how to stop the bomb, the power of love and some nonsense (why did they have to go get sappy?).

Claire escaped from Nathan and Grandma Petrelli, who were planning to take her away and let the bomb go off. Then Claire and everyone else ended up at the plaza for the final showdown, which was the last 8 minutes of the show. This should have been what the whole show was about, not the final 8 dinky minutes!

Hiro showed up to kill Sylar, stabbing him through the heart. Before he did though, Parkman tried to shoot Sylar. Sylar deflected Parkman’s bullets and pummeled Parkman with them! Noooooooo! Parkman got about 5 bullets right to the chest. After being stabbed by Hiro he did one final power act, trying to kill Hiro by flinging him into a nearby building Hiro then vanished with his own power. Meanwhile Peter, after fighting Sylar, was on the verge of exploding. Claire was about to shoot him to stop him, but Nathan showed up with an alternative. Nathan flew Peter into the sky and the fireworks went off.

The show ended with Molly with DL, Nikki and Micah, Parkman being rushed to the hospital, Sylar apparently dragging himself into the sewers still alive and Peter and Nathan apparently dead. What what what! Why didn’t Claire just shoot him? Couldn’t he have regenerated? I guess the threat would always have been there, I don’t know.

Finally we got a glimpse of next season, Chapter 2: Generations. Hiro time traveled all the way back to Feudal Japan where a small army was about to take on that guy from Hiro’s sword legend. We saw he had a banner which was the tattoo they put on everyone’s necks all season long. Interesting! Then an eclipse happened, stopping everyone in their tracks. Hmmmm, I don’t know if that is supposed to just mimic the opening or be something more, like the origin of their powers? Didn’t everyone discover their powers in the beginning with an eclipse?

I don’t know, I was let down. How did you all feel?

  1. I agree that it was a little anticlimactic, but it did have a few jaw dropping moments. I was shocked when Nathan showed up, but wouldn’t Peter have that power without him? I loved seeing everyone together finally. It will be a long summer waiting for what’s next!

  3. I love the series bit I was a little confused and disappointed with the finale.
    1. Claire could have shot Peter to stop the bomb and then like chrisds said all they would of had to do was pull the bullet out and he would be fine!
    2. Peter can fly on his own so he could have just flown in the sky and detonated in the sky and then regenerated and been fine also.

    3. Jessica/Nikki could have walked over there and womped the crap out of him and knocked him out and stopped the bomb!!

But I guess they had to find a way to make Nathan a good guy so he had to do the righ thing!!

Long shot but what if Nathan flew him in the sky so far that when he was about to detonate he flew away lightning speed of course and let peter fall and either let peter fall to the ground which of course he would be fine or flew back over and caught him while he was still falling!! I know it sounds stupid but you never know!!

Do we know what Mother Petrelli’s power is??

They need to have someone like on charmed who has a power to heal others!!

Well anyway, That is enough of me jibber jabbering

  5. I really liked the finale. This show has yet to let me down. It is always entertaining, which is hard to say about most shows. Here is hoping that season two is as good as season one.

  6. I LOVED the finale! The explosive power Peter had was so uncontrolable that I don’t think he could have used any other power, especially flying, to save himself. The whole point of Claire having the gun in the beginning was so she could shoot Peter and they would not revive him because he was such a risk. Basically Nathan killed himself to save his little brother and the city, which in my book makes him awesome. I haven’t liked him much until now.

Also, one of the best moments for me was when Horned Rim Glasses said, “Call me Noah”. Finally after all of this time he has a name. When he revealed his name I thought for sure he was going to die, but thankfully he survived.
My husband read somewhere that Noah Bennett was only supposed to be in like the first 6 episodes, but the fans liked him so much that they kept his character on longer.

I can’t wait until next season. We will find out if Peter survived, (btw I love Jaime’s idea about Nathan flying away and being saved) if Sylar is alive (I hope not) and if Parkman makes it.
I loved Molly’s prediction on the man worse that Sylar, the one that is she thinks about him he can see her. Wonder who that it. Sounds like a good villain for next season.

  7. I also really liked the finale! I think that if he would have been shot by Claire, then he could still explode at any time. I don’t think Peter had the strength to fly either. So, I don’t think there were too many more options.

I can’t wait til next season. This is my favorite show other than AI!!

  9. I liked this episode..didnt love it…im sorry but that peter/sylar fight was suppose to be BADASS! ..oh well..hopefully next season when everyone has more experience with their powers they will have more interesting action scenes.

I think Sylar is still alive and Nathan is dead. As much as i want Nathan to live just because of how interesting his character is..i believe that he needs to die and Sylar is going to assume his identity..and by the time Peter comes back (maybe he will have a coma or something) Sylar would have been living as Nathan for awhile and Peter would not know the difference right off the bat ( not sure..im reaching)

This new “worse” boogie man that molly was talking about, im guessing that he and sylar are going to team up or IF sylar is really dead, he is the one that took his body..and maybe the powers he abosrbed.

I cant wait for next season..they hinted at more relationships and things of that nature will come up next season, but im guessing there will also be more NEW heros and people with powers popping up (with suresh and bennet working together to find them) and i can see there being more kids with powers showing up too..i thought it was cute how Micah and Molly interacted…so i can see more kids being involed and getting into the action too.

Well till next season i guess ::sigh::

  10. I think both Petrelli brothers will still be alive. I was having thoughts very similar to Jaime’s. I think after they got in the air, Peter was able to pull out his flying abilities, allowing Nathan to fly far enough away to not explode. Peter was learning to control his other powers, I think he’ll be able to control his radiation too. The show wouldn’t be the same without the 2 of them. Would be a great story to have the brothers team up to take down their evil mother!

Overall the episode was good, slow at points, but it all served its purpose. My favorite character though is Claire. Hayden and the writers have done a great job making her character grow up so fast.

I was also glad to see Jessica step aside and let Nikki out. It was a great merging of the characters, seeing them work together.

Its gonna be a long summer waiting to see what happens next…

  11. I have been hooked on Heroes since the pilot, and last night’s season finale was awesome! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time!

I hope that they didn’t really kill Nathan and Peter. I actually teared up during that scene. I’m with you guys on the theory about Nathan flying away in time to save himself, and about Peter regenerating. I do hope that Momma Petrelli gets hers though…what a witch! Her power is probably seeing the future like Issac did, but she tries to manipulate it to go the way she wants.

I also can’t wait to see who this new boogeyman will be….Sylar is pretty badass, so this new villain will have to be so badass that Sylar is going to look like Mickey Mouse in comparison…hope they don’t let us down on that one! I was soooo hoping Hiro would chop off Sylar’s head, but I knew it wasn’t going to be that simple to get rid of him…

The eclipse ending left me wondering if Hiro would be stuck there for most of season 2…because the eclipse in the pilot triggered the powers within all the heroes, so maybe it would have the opposite effect this time and make their powers go dormant again…just a theory…

Anyway, I can’t wait for season 2…I’ll be buying season 1 on dvd soon!

  13. I was also a fan of last night’s episode. I thought it started off slow but the ending was fantastic! I think that Sylar was pulled into the sewer by someone…he didn’t crawl in there himself! I also think that at least Peter will be back next season. Nathan may really be dead. Mama Petrelli is going to have a fit!

  14. I agree that I hope Nathan and Peter live. I think it’s possible they can if Nathan flew away at the last minute and Peter rehealed. I don’t think Peter could use any other powers before Nathan flew him away. He seemed to be paralyzed by the bomb power. Also, without Nathan and Peter then it doesn’t seem that Grandma Petrelli would have much of a part. Although I was hoping she would get it last night.

I think Parkman will live too, or I hope so. He’s a cop so maybe he was wearing a bullet proof vest.

I was disappointed they didn’t kill Syler or so it seems. Enough of him already. He’s getting like Jason from Friday the 13th or something. The guy just doesn’t die. I also wonder if he crawled under the sewer or if someone dragged him under there, like the other villian Molly mentioned.

  15. When Hiro transported himself back in time and saw those other guys, wasn’t the main one George Takei (Hiro’s Dad)? By the looks of his eyes (I know he was under armor) it looked like Hiro’s Dad. Generations leads me to believe that the 2nd season may focus on how the whole people having powers thing came about because all of the heroes have powers in their family. I also wonder if Peter’s dream sequence was actually a power that came from Surresh. Didn’t Surresh have the same kind of dream sequence earlier in the season? It would make sense since his sister had a power and does that mean his father had a power as well…lots to think about over the summer.

  19. I loved this episode. It wasn’t what I was expecting but, it was good nonetheless. Sure we all would have loved more action but this season has been all about the Heroes and them discovering their powers.

To someone asking about Peter…when Ted was going atomic and blew up Claire’s house he was shot and couldn’t control his power. Same could of happened with Peter. He just couldn’t control it. Also Peter couldn’t control the atomic part of him, how would he be able to fly away on his own?

Anyways…Can’t wait for next season. And yes, I will be getting Season 1 on DVD. Wish they would release it in Blu-Ray

  20. I too was disappointed with the ending, expected a lot more but then again did the conclusion have to be complicated. A cliffhanger on the first part of the story may have taken away from the second chapter or volume which is titled Generation. I guess the writers want us to speculate on the coming story instead of this season’s storyline!Although, it may be far from over.
I totally hooked on that show. Basically, the first season served as an introduction to all heroes. Maybe the next one will bring their reason for being in the first place. I just love Hiro! Can’t wait to see what awaits him!

  21. I’m glad they named Claire’s dad finally. Referring him as “Claire’s dad” was getting a little old. I thought his name was kind of ironic and not too original on NBC’s part though. His name is Noah Bennett, which is also the name of a character on the NBC soap Passions. They should have thought about that one a little harder, lol. BTW, I too got the impression that the little boy with Suresh in his dream sequences was himself as a child, especially since he looked for him and asked about him but never found him or anyone that knew him.

  22. I love the Suresh theory. I never thought about that, but it makes sense. Next season should be interesting since it seems the show will delve into past “Generations.” Since their powers are b/c of a genetic defect, which is (of course) passed down through their bloodlines, I wonder if they’ll begin tying powers together too. One theory I had was that Sylar is actually a Petrelli brother. The three of them actually look alike (though I know they’re just actors). But, Sylar and Peter are like yin and yang in terms of their powers. I could see the show making them twins down the road (should Sylar survive). If they continue with the lineage idea, then Linderman could also be Nathan’s father, making him Claire’s grandfather, which explains the link and similarity between their healing powers. When Linderman told Nathan that his father failed, maybe he was speaking of himself in the third person.

  24. ahhhh!!! miranda i knew the name noah bennett sounded familiar!! anyways, about heros…

like most everyone else is saying, the first thing i thought when nathan flew off with peter was that nathan could fly away from peter before he exploded thus saving both of them. as for peter flying himself, i have never seen peter fly without nathan nearby. he’s had to learn to control every other power that he’s gained and i just don’t think thats he’s learned to use it yet (i could be mistaken on him flying without nathan though). i would be a little disapointed if nathan did die and sylar took his identity. they showed that in the 5 year in the future episode, and since they changed the future by stopping the bomb i just don’t like the idea of sylar becoming nathan. i am interested in who this bad guy that molly was talking about is thats worse than sylar. they totally set that up as a story line for next season, i hope they follow through with it, so many shows just drop stuff like that, i hope this one doesn’t get dropped. ok so was that bug crawling on the sewer top a cockroach? as a metaphore that sylar won’t be that easy to kill? because everyone know’s how hard it is to get rid of cockroaches! anyways, i am super excited for next year, i absolutey love this show and hope that it doesn’t do what lost has done and leave you all sorts of questions, never answer them and then just add new questions to the mix.

  25. It wasn’t my favorite episode of the season but, one thing I wish everyone would keep in mind this is a TV drama, not a comicbook action movie!!! These people are real people dealing with these new abilities, so for them to use them so effortlessly would have been a huge injustice to the storytelling. In futre episodes (liek in “Five Years Gone”) they will be able to use their powers better and then we will see some toe to toe fighting. I give the season finale a 7 out of 10, only because I wish some of the events (Peter’s dream, Ms. Petrelli’s involvement, & Where’s Claude?) were explained. But I guess it is going to be explained next season.

    Can’t wait!!!

  30. Nathan and Peter will be back next season. The will wrap up the season one and the last 3 mins of the season finale are the first 3 mins of the season 2 premire. The new big bad that molly was talk about will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up when he talks according to Greg Gunberg (parkman). I think the new season will be awesome just like season one. Its going to be 30 hours of heroes on tv next season with 24 episode of the show and 6 stand-alone episode which will introduce a one hero each episode and till their back story and at the end of the 6 episode viewers will be able to vote on which hero they want to come back for season 3. by having these 6 extra episodes it will mean that their will be no big long breaks which they had last christmas they are too option the are thinking about airing the episode airing almost all the 24 season 2 episodes with a short break around christmas then airing the 6 episodes or they will air half the season then the 6 episodes then air the final half of the season. so all this means is that we wont have to wait a month for new episodes. awesome

  31. Sylar gets his powers from eating(?) other heroes brains…so since he hasn’t gotten to Candace yet, how could he come back as Nathan? 5 years in the future, he had gotten to Candace, and that’s how he could pose as Nathan. So, I am figuring if Nathan is to return next season, he may have been able to fly away from Peter in time to save himself.

I don’t think Peter would have been able to use any of his other powers because he was overcome with the atomic bomb so I guess that Nathan flying him out of there was the only way to stop it. 37. I loved season one and loved the finale. I work nights so I am so glad I can watch them online.

I don’t believe Lindeman, Nathan, his mom are so evil. I think they really wanted to do what was best for the world. They were making preparations for the bomb going off. They really didnt believe it could be stopped.

I loved that Nathan came back for Peter, made me cry. Peter couldnt take off by himself because he didnt know what to do. Nathan was always there in the past and he was there now.

I really want both Nathan and Peter to come back. I do wonder how Peter can even if he can regenerate. The bomb would blow him to bits. When he and Claire were killed, they didnt come back to life until the object that killed them was removed, like the piece of glass and the stick. If he is blown to bits, wouldnt someone have to put the all the pieces(or most of them) back together?

And I dont want Nathan back if it is really Sylar. I don’t think Sylar can be alive like in 5 Years Gone because Hiro would have known he killed him instead of spending so much time trying to go back to kill him. Hmmmm, that can get you dizzy thinking about it. I do believe someone or something pulled him into the sewer. And then I would like to know how they plan on explaining how he is still alive.
    I hate Syler.

I wont really miss DL. I didnt see enough of him or get to know hime very well. He had to take that bullet or it would have gone through him to Nikki.

Why should Parkman still be alive? I am not too impressed with him either I guess.

Molly and Suresh. I think they could be related since his blood saved her. Or that could be his power, that his blood can save anyone. I wonder if his father had something to do with that. He fathered Mohinder to save his sister, maybe he effected his genetic code in some way. That could be his fathers power too. Like Sylar seeing how things work, his father could see how DNA worked and could change it.

But then when you think you have this show figured out, it completely different. Love it!

  38. The most important thing people forget about this season, is it really took place over about a week (regardless of Hiro’s time hopping). That isn’t a long time for people to gain command over their powers. Maybe next season, they will be more confident but this season was more about their stories, introducing them as people first. It is like they have their Hero training wheels on and may get them off next season.
When I saw the final Sylar/Peter showdown, it almost looked too X-Men to me. If they had an epic, hour long fight scene, people would be complaining that it was relying too heavily on action as opposed to the characters. I am glad some of the other folks were involved because, remember, this is a series. We are supposed to see a progression in their powers. Most likely, the series finale will be some huge, X-Men style blow out with all these Heroes fighting each other. Tim Kring has insinuated that Ali Larter’s character is the key to the whole thing so we may find out the lamer characters are more important than first suspected.
Overall, I thought the show was great. During, I was completely riveted. After, I had the same questions about Peter that everyone did. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
