Project Runway Catch-Up

Project Runway Catch-Up

Posted by Dustin on 09.11.2008 at 12:04 am

So I’ve fallen behind with “Project Runway” thoughts. I think one of my big issues with this season is there is no real dramatic and crazy designer. There’s no Austin Scarlett or Santino to be zany and funny. What we do have is a lot of designers who seem to talk back to the judges though!

Keith, Blaine and Stella have all walked off the runway. None of them leaving really shocked me. However Terry going I will admit did, I thought she would end up in the end for sure. Meanwhile little meek Leanne who had such a poor start in this show is rocking it and I think she’s going to win. If not, she is sure going to be in the final three. I expect to see Karto (sp?) there are well. I am thinking Kenly or Latrelle will be the other at this point.

Shear Genius Finale Thoughts

Shear Genius Finale Thoughts

Posted by Dustin on 09.10.2008 at 12:54 pm

I’ve fallen behind on my thoughts on the Bravo reality shows. Just a quick blurb on the finale of “Shear Genius.” It came down to Nicole, Charlie and Dee. I knew Nicole didn’t have a snowballs chance in hell at winning. However I was glad to see the judges give her such praise for being so talented at such a young age (in comparison to her competitors on the show).

It came down to Charlie and Dee as the final two, and Dee was given the title of “Shear Genius.” As much as I didn’t like Charlie, I don’t know if I thought Dee deserved to win. I was just glad that Daniel at least got fan favorite.

Speaking of fan favorite, last season’s fan favorite Tabitha has her own show on Bravo now called “Tabitha’s Salon Takeover.” Every week she takes over a struggling salon and whips it and the staff into shape. The show is hilarious and tons of fun, mainly because Tabitha doesn’t take shnit from anyone!

NBC and iTunes Make Nice

NBC and iTunes Make Nice

Posted by Dustin on 09.10.2008 at 12:48 pm

Just a quick news blurb. Last year NBC and Apple had a falling out over program and price distribution on iTunes, which resulted in NBC pulling their shows and attempting to set-up something similar with Amazon through the UnBox program. Well at Apple’s press conference yesterday to unveil their new iPods, the announcement was made that NBC and Apple had mended fences and NBC shows would be back on iTunes for download almost immediately. So you can look forward to the new season of “Heroes,” “Battlestar,” “Chuck,” and other shows to once again be available on iTunes.

Big Brother Final 3 and the Final HOH Competition

Big Brother Final 3 and the Final HOH Competition

Posted by Dustin on 09.09.2008 at 9:36 pm

Tonight was the POV competition, the live POV ceremony and eviction. We also got to see Dan’s trip to an island with Michelle.

First there was the nominations aftermath, with Keesha being grateful and thinking Dan really had her back as he said. Jerry of course thinks he can use the situation to his advantage. Jerry thought Keesha was sitting way too pretty and told Memphis as much. He wanted Memphis to win the POV for him, or he would win it for him and they’d send Keesha out.

Dan went on his island trip with Michelle. Michelle was surprised to see him and couldn’t believe he picked her. She seemed very grateful and Dan laid the charm on her. Dan outright told her that Memphis, Keesha and Renny knew what he was planning to do with back dooring her. Dan asked her if she thought he had any chance of winning. She didn’t know. Dan asked what if it came down to him and Memphis? She said out of everyone in the jury house, she hinted she could swing people. Michelle did have fun on her trip and was grateful Dan picked her of all people.

The POV competition was played, which involved matching names of house guests with their actions in past veto competitions. Dan threw the competition so that Memphis could end up winning it.

Memphis and Dan discussed who they should keep. Keesha came to see them, she hoped Memphis wouldn’t be voting her out. Memphis didn’t really answer the question. Keesha went off on her own, she began to realize they were going to evict her. Keesha went to see Memphis and Dan. She confronted them and wanted to know if she was being evicted. She could tell just by the look on Memphis’ face that he was kicking her out. He said he wasn’t and to stop. She said she knew they were voting her out. Keesha said she wanted to know before hand. She said she didn’t get this far by not being able to read people. She says don’t think she will vote for who sends her out and don’t think she won’t be talking to the jury house. Keesha stormed out and Memphis went to talk to her. She wanted him to at least tell her or tell her why. He said he came to say he was sorry, which she knew meant she was gone. She was furious and wanted to know how long they’d been lying to her. She felt so stupid for sticking up for them both. She couldn’t believe they’d send her home and keep Jerry.

Keesha then had her conversation with Dan, which I recapped in last night’s post. Keesha said she had both of their back’s throughout this game. Basically she believed Dan was a good guy and hoped he’d win it, but said she wouldn’t be surprised if Jerry won in the end. What Keesha doesn’t know is that Dan knew Memphis was going to vote her out and they discussed it!

Everyone was assembled for the live POV ceremony and immediate vote. Memphis used the veto, which put Keesha on the block. Keesha and Jerry were allowed to address Memphis with their “please don’t vote me out” speeches. Keesha refused to speak to Memphis in her speech, she thanked Dan for being there for her and she wished him luck! Memphis stood and cast his vote to evict Keesha.

Before leaving Dan gave her a message and told her something (which he promised her he would, but not until the last moment). Keesha went out to meet Julie. Julie asked what Dan whispered, he said he took Michelle on the trip. On the bottom of the thing Dan gave Keesga was the message “hot.” Keesha didn’t understand what that meant. Keesha then watched the messages from the houseguests. Memphis claimed this vote made sense in his game and hoped she could forgive him. Jerry wished her a good life. Dan told Keesha he tried to keep her and this was hard to see her go.

In the house, Dan yelled to someone that if “they” thought he was taking them to the end, forget it. I think he said it to Jerry, but I’m not sure.

Part one of the final HOH competition began. As usual, it was an endurance competition for part one. They were all standing on on little planes that went into the air and moved around as they were rained on and other usual things. The winner of round 1 would advance to round 3, the winner of round 2 would face off with the winner of round 1 in the final round.

At this point, I hope Dan wins the whole thing. If it comes down to Memphis and Jerry, go Jerry! Don’t like him, but think Memphis rode his way to the end and didn’t get his hands dirty at all. Smart yes, but still an easy way to get to the end.

Results of the HOH competition below, at this point at least as much as I know.

True Blood on HBO

True Blood on HBO

Posted by Dustin on 09.09.2008 at 1:01 pm

This past Sunday “True Blood” aired on HBO. The premise of the show is that vampires are real, and two years ago they “came out of their coffins.” The Japanese developed a synthetic blood, which has been marked as a drink called “Tru Blood.” This allowed vampires to stop feeding on mortals and reveal themselves to humanity.

The show takes place in a small rural community in Louisiana and follows Sookie, a waitress at a bar. She’s also a psychic and can read everyone’s minds. The town gets its first vampire resident and Sookie is taken with him, and him with her. He can sense she is different than the others and for her, she can’t read his mind and he calms the voices in her head.

The premier I thought was fantastic, I just hope the rest of the show lives up and keeps building. There is already a mystery, with Sookie’s brother being arrested for murdering a girl in town he slept with the night before. She had previously had sex with a vampire for cash, and the brother seems to have some of Sookie’s gift as well they are hinting. Sookie’s best friend is Tara, a smart mouthed girl who is in love with her brother. Meanwhile Sookie’s boss Sam is head over heels in love with her.

If you missed the show, it is re-airing heavily this week. You can also catch it on HBO On-Demand if your cable offers the channel (most digital services do). The show is also airing online at HBO.com, though it appears to be heavily edited for language and nudity.

Army Wives: Someone *Hearts* Pam

Army Wives: Someone *Hearts* Pam

Posted by Dustin on 09.08.2008 at 8:28 pm

Finally, after a brief hiatus, “Army Wives” returned with a new episode this week.

Roxy got the idea to throw Joan a baby shower, but Roland didn’t think she’d go for that at all. She suggested she give him one instead. He said he would ask Joan. Joan, who was busy baby-proofing their entire house, agreed. However she wanted no cutsey games. At the shower though, through their gifts, the wives made her see that baby gifts can be practical yet at the same time cute. They made her also see that she has to take the time to enjoy this experience instead of planning everything.

Roxy remained concerned about Trevor and his pills. He snapped at her, but quickly apologized and said he wouldn’t take them anymore. However after news of a friend’s death in Iraq, Roxy found him passed out with the bottle next to him. She asked how many he took and he blew up, throwing and breaking things before breaking down sobbing himself.

Denise reminded Frank about marriage counseling. Suddenly he was having cold feet about talking to someone they didn’t know, but he agreed. They meet with the Chaplin on base, and that’s when all hell broke lose. Frank blamed Denise for the problems in their marriage and specifically her going back to work. That was when it all started and he wanted it to end. Denise said people grow and change, so do marriages. Frank didn’t think so, marriage was a bedrock, she signed up for him to take care of her and that was that. Denise felt they needed a separation, time apart to sort things out. He screamed he was going to Iraq in five days, is that distance far enough for her? Frank told her she would have to tell the boy, which she said she would. However as she prepared to tell Jeremy, he dropped the news that he too was deploying to Iraq. Not wanting him concerned with this while over there, she didn’t tell him.

Claudia Joy’s dad showed up this week and tried to convince Claudia Joy that her mother was exaggerating their troubles and he was getting it all under control. He insisted on taking them all out to dinner, which Michael later found out he put on his tab at the restaurant. Claudia Joy thought maybe he didn’t have the money on him, she was sure he’d pay him back. Michael tried to make her see she can see no fault in her father, but she refused to hear it. However when Emmalynn confessed to her mom that grandpa wanted to dip into the college fund he set up for, she saw the light. She confronted both her parents, saying this was their problem and they had to fix it . . . she couldn’t be in the middle or let it affect her family anymore. She also told her dad that until he got help, mom wouldn’t be coming back to him and she didn’t blame her.

The final storyline of the hour was a new mystery involving Pam. A man named Tim began calling into her show, showering her with praise. Later he left flowers on her doorstep with the note “You’re even prettier in person.” Then he ordered her a drink at Roxy’s, but ran off before she could see him. Finally he was inside her house, but she scared him off. That was when Pam finally called the MP for help. However they told her there was no evidence that this break-in was her stalker. She knew that, she was a cop once too. Pam ended up breaking down in tears after the police left.

My Thoughts
This was a good episode because of Denise and Pam’s story lines. The others I thought were a little weak. I mean Joan’s shower was the cute filler story, Trevor and the pills have been dragging, while Claudia Joy’s story was predictable. If it hadn’t been a few weeks since we saw the show then I might not have liked this episode as much.

As I suspected a few weeks ago, I’m gunna have to strip Frank of his bonus points! When he went off on Denise in the office about how he wanted her to stop working and go back to the way it was, what she signed up for, I was just stunned. Was this a marriage or the Army? I think Frank has them confused. I thought right there that marriage’s fate was sealed. Later though Denise couldn’t tell Jeremy about the separation because he’s going off to Iraq too. With Frank and Jeremy both in Iraq, I’m thinking someone is going to be critically injured.

Pam’s storyline was probably my favorite, because it introduced a mystery into the show. Who is her stalker? I wonder if Tim is someone we know? I was trying to think who it could be, who she had run into that a big wasn’t made of, but am drawing a blank. This is a creepy storyline. The previews next week have the kids getting involved, which makes it go into scary land. When the MP showed up and didn’t seem to want to help or believe Pam, ooh I was angry! I can’t wait till Pam goes into cop mode and starts kicking some butt.

Big Brother: Dan Makes His Nominations

Big Brother: Dan Makes His Nominations

Posted by Dustin on 09.07.2008 at 9:09 pm

With Dan the new HOH, he would have to nominate two people this week. However first there was a luxury competition which involved a sumo wrestler in the living room sitting on some important envelope they needed to get. Dan saw the envelope and knew he needed to get it. When the wrestler stood up to do his moves, Dan grabbed it. The luxury competition involved a trip out of the house to somewhere. It was also stated that this trip could change the whole game.

Keesha knew Dan and Memphis were a team, and that she was now alone. She was missing Renny, but vowed to give them a run for their money. Memphis and Dan meanwhile were trying to figure out who the best person to take the jury house would be. Jerry is talking about how if Keesha makes it to the end, she’ll win because the girls will vote for a woman to win.

After Dan got to see his HOH room, the luxury comp was set up. A man in a gorilla suit snuck into the house and walked into the diary room to reveal they were Jessie! Jessie woke everyone up, where in the back yard they found all sorts of objects which were clues that made up a phrase. They had three hours to make three guesses in the diary room. The first person to make the correct guess would be given a trip out of the house that could impact the game. As they tried to figure it out, the gorilla/Jessie followed them around and mocked them. He never revealed himself to them.

After the three hours were up the gorilla came out and made a noise to alert them who he was and Dan figured out the gorilla was Jessie. They ran into the house to find the gorilla’s glove was on Jessie’s key under his picture. They were sure the gorilla was Jessie.,

The winner of the competition ended up being Dan! In the diary room Dan was told he had won a private helicopter trip to a remote beach for the day and can take one of the housemates or a jury member of his choice. Dan opted to take Michelle, thinking it could get her on his side. Plus if he took a house guest then it would make it look like sides or deals were made. Dan then lied, claiming he was told he could take one of them or go on his own, which he claimed he chose so it wouldn’t cause hard feelings.

Dan had to make his nominations. He nominated Jerry and Memphis, but did so to try and make sure Memphis would go to the end with him.

Jerry thinks Dan has turned on Memphis, and he can use this to his advantage. Keesha meanwhile thinks maybe Dan would want to take her to the end and not Memphis.

If you want to know who wins the POV, read on!
