Grey’s Anatomy Jane & Dead Denny
Two weeks of show thoughts mostly in this post. As usual I’m so far behind that to try and recap everything would put me further behind.
Last week Owen had all the residents and their interns work to save the lives of pigs, which he mercilessly stabbed in front of them all. OMG! This just made me completely ill and was enough to turn me off him and Christina. Fortunately at the end of the program Izzie was the one who stood up to him and told him how horrible what he did was, and that they had come to the point in medicine where they didn’t need to test on animals or use them as guinea pigs. Even Christina, after working to save every one, was appalled when Owen turned around and told her to terminate them. She did though as Lexie pointed out they would live in such pain. Frankly I think Owen should have been the one to do that job. This whole story made me sick.
The other major story last week was The Chief asking Miranda to do his job, assemble a team to operate on a little girl who essentially had an inoperable tumor. The Chief was on the team by default, she picked Hahn and Meredith as well. Meredith had found an old toy of hers, Anatomy Jane, that she was play in with. Using it she came up with the idea to take all the girls organs out and put them back in one at a time to get rid of the tumor. It was the only shot they had. Hahn thought it was pointless, and nagged through the entire operation and procedure. Well it worked, and afterwards Baily told Erica Hahn off, saying while she was a brilliant surgeon; it was she and Meredith who saved that girl today as all Erica did was tell them they were going to fail. I just love Baily and I love seeing her tell off anyone, cause she’s usually pretty much right!
Speaking of Erica, she finally realized she was in fact a lesbian in this episode. She wasn’t bi, she wasn’t straight, she was “so very gay” as she put it. That freaked Callie out, as Callie wasn’t having any homo-revelations herself. She of course ran to mark to test out, was she straight, gay or bi? In the end she realized she liked both basically, but wanted to be with Erica.
This past week The Chief announced one of the 2nd year residents would get a solo surgery. He asked Owen to evaluate them as he was the one without a real relationship with them and could be objective. He however soon found himself disgusted with how the residents fought over patients as if they weren’t human beings with feelings and families and lives. I found this somewhat a giant turn-around from the Owen of last week who was sacrificing pigs in the OR. Owen seems to be all over the place emotionally, which I am guessing is supposed to be a reflection of his field work during the war? Christina however put him in his place and good with her speech back to him about how watching her father die in a car accident is why she became a doctor and why she is determined to be the best.
The other major story was the resurfacing of an old patient of Hahn’s. It turned out he was waiting for a heart, but to buy him time they had to perform a radical procedure on him. Izzie was selected by Hahn to be on the team as she needed her to be compassionate and caring, which is what she was known for. However Izzie freaked out when she realize this was the man she stole a heart from when she did what she did illegally to get Denny’s his heart. Denny haunted her throughout this episode, which weirded her out. When Hahn learned of Izzie’s stunt, she was furious. She wanted her fired, investigated, brought up on ethic charges. The Chief told Hahn that Izzie was punished and it had been dealt with, that she was a good doctor and they couldn’t lose her. Hahn was sicked by this.
Later when Callie defended Izzie, Hahn was sickened by her. She thought there was no grey here, it was black and white. She launched into Callie saying Izzie was wrong, she can’t believe Callie would take her side, that she never knew her. She also told Callie that you can’t kinda be a lesbian, you either are or you aren’t. Erica walked off, and that is the end of her story for now.
I thought it was a crummy end for her and Callie, as well as her character. But Erica always was a hard-ass bitch, she came into the show that way and she left that way.
Izzie meanwhile is in a world of trouble! Erica could follow through with her threat to report Izzie. This could be how they do away with her. Likewise Izzie seems to really be seeing Denny, so they could say she does have something wrong; a tumor or imbalance causing her to hallucinate.
Hmmm, does anyone else think that the reason Seattle Grace is number 12 is because they have these little competitions? I mean they don’t see the patients as patients like Owen was saying. I did like the surgery doll, it was pretty funny.

I have to admit, I enjoyed this week’s episode of Grey’s (except for the death of the woman…that was too sad). I loved poor George with the dummy but I couldn’t believe how much time the Chief wasted messing with George – that kind of stuff doesn’t hurt the hospital. I have to admit, I am not surprised by Hahn’s exit – she certainly can’t go back to Seattle Grace after her outburst with Callie and the Chief and her exit wasn’t as anti-climatic as all of the spoiler sites made it out to be, IMO. I do agree it was a poor end to her and Callie but I had a feeling that sort of outburst would have happened sooner or later – I don’t feel like Callie was taking it as seriously as Erica was. I am not sure that Izzy’s visions of Denny would be a brain tumor but just a product of her guilty conscious. If she keeps seeing him though….then we’ll see for sure. I wonder if Erica will report this and come back later in the season – perhaps her “firing” is a way to keep that plotline secret and throw us all off!
