Housewives: The 5 Year Fill-In

As I get ready to watch tonight’s “Desperate Housewives,” I’m finally posting a quick blurb about last week’s episode. This was the much anticipated episode where we learned what happened in that five year gap. While I enjoyed it, I was a little disappointed. It seemed like we got more of the present than the past in the episode. Don’t get me wrong, it was a good episode, but I thought it would be more about filling us in.

We learned that Bree had a drink when Orson went off to prison, and that Katherine moved in to help her cope. Orson, who had been nasty to Bree for awhile and finally announced he wanted a divorce, felt a bit foolish when he learned what happened and why Bree felt so indebted to Katherine. Orson finally stopped pushing, saying he would work for them and not insist on being a partner like he had been demanding.

Tom was electrocuted at the Pizzeria and almost died. This is what spurned his actions as of late and the apparent mid-life crisis. His latest idea was to sell the restaurant, buy and RV and spend a year traveling. As Lynette finally put it to him, the Pizzeria was supposed to be his dream and they dropped everything to make it happen, he couldn’t keep doing this. I loved when she threw a drink in his face, she should have done more than that! I’m hoping after this he’ll be a little less spastic than he’s been, as he’s getting on my nerves.

We learned Gabby’s little girls were both miracles, she was not excepted to be able to have kids after her miscarriage. She also wanted Carlos to get a vasectomy as she would not be having any more babies, but he lied and didn’t get one. She had a pregnancy scare, but wasn’t pregnant. She was upset with Carlos, but he didn’t want to give up the dream of a third kid, possibly a son. Oh boy, we can see where this is going. With all the “rumors” that Eva is pregnant in real life, it seems like they are going to have Gabby get pregnant on the show.

Finally we learned that before they made it final, Susan had second thoughts about the divorce. However it was Mike who was tired and signed the papers, telling her to do the same. Ooooo that made me so mad! All this time we’ve been led to believe the divorce was Susan’s idea, she pushed for it. While she might have, it seems in the end it was Mike that made it official. Of course we don’t know how insane Susan acted so perhaps he had just gotten fed up with her. Jackson meanwhile decided he and Susan should move in together in this episode, which she didn’t want to do. She didn’t want to change their relationship, not wanting to do the commitment thing.

Once again, as I’m so far behind, I’m mostly posting thoughts on the show than re-caps. The thoughts somewhat serve as a mini-cap as well.

The last two episodes really revolved around guest star Lindsay Lohan as Betty’s nemesis Kimmy, who came to work at “Mode.” It was basically her rise and fall. Once she became popular and got a great job there, she began treating Betty like dirt again. Mark, Amanda and Betty ultimately conspired to have her fired, but Kimmy became so full of herself that she didn’t need any help in that department.

I actually enjoyed Linday’s performance, she played the bitch perfectly. They set her exit up so it would be possible for her to return at some point, though with all the rumors of tension on the set because of her I doubt that will ever happen. It’s a shame, she could have become a good nemesis for Betty.

Mark’s boyfriend Cliff made the shortest of appearances in the latest episode. Hopefully we’ll see more of him in the future, as I think they can do so much more with the character.

Wilamena and Daniel had a funny date due to being set up by a dating service, but it seemed to help them mend fences and agree to get along at work for the sake of the business. It looked as if thing were actually improving between the two. Later though Claire suggested neither of them had the business sense Alexis did, so they needed to hire a CFO to manage the business end of things. Wilamena found a guy with a great background, who apparently had a bad history with Daniel. Intrigued she pushed Daniel to hire him regardless. It didn’t take her long to start looking for ways to cause trouble! Daniel agreed to hire him, but the joke was on Willy. Daniel and the guy were friends and set her up! She has no idea what they are planning, though neither do we.

Justin tried out for a Broadway musical and ran into the cool jock from school, who was also trying out. It seemed the jock had a talent and love for the musical theater as well. Neither got the part, and it appears formed a friendship. I’d love to see more of this, as Justin is so underutilized!

Finally Hilda worked to open her salon, and had Ralph Machio stop in as a city councilman needing a haircut. He then told her it was illegal for her to run her shop out of her house. Oops! Ralph was only on for a bit, but it seems like they’ve set him up to return and as a possible love interest for Hilda. It was funny to see him though, as he looks so different now. I had to remember he was guest staring and then realized it was him! Had I not known, I never would have realized it.
