Housewives: Back In Time
So this is a quick post on the past 2 weeks of “Desperate Housewives” as I try to play catch-up from vacation. Though as I quickly found out, a lot of ABC shows are being preempted for the next 2 weeks, so I might be back in a “nothing to comment on” state soon enough.
Bree and her son-in-law to be clashed as he did not like how emasculating Bree was when she talked to Orson and Andrew. He was ready to return the house rather than live so close to her and stir the pot. However she admitted to him that she had changed these past few years, she’d love him around to call her out and help keep her from doing so. He agreed to stay. I love that Bree actually admitted she had been in the wrong for once, something you rarely see her do. However I found it odd that the son-in-law was so critical of Bree, yet didn’t see she was pretty much exactly like his own mother. He did mention his mom drove his dad away with the way she talked to him, which is why it upset him, but it seems to me he was still letting his mom control his life from where they should live to where he should work. That irked me, a lot. That he would be so willing to tell Bree off, but was willing to let his mom direct his life for him and Andrew.
Carlos started back at work this week, leaving Gabby to take care of the kids. She soon found them to be more of a handful, telling her they didn’t listen to her because they loved daddy more than they loved her. Gabby was in tears, and I felt so bad for her. But she quickly bounced back and had a handyman scream at them for her! Later she learned from Carlos they were playing games with her, they used to tell him they loved her more when he was left in charge. I have to say Gabby’s kids, especially that oldest Juanita is a brat! They need to nip her attitude problem in the bud and fast before she becomes a real hellion. I really felt bad for Gabby when she sat on her steps crying because of what her kid said to her. I don’t usually feel that sorry for her character.
Lynette found out her mom was hiding Porter at the retirement home. It seemed she wasn’t so much as concerned for Porter as she wanted to make Lynette suffer! She was furious with Lynette for placing her in the home, but Lynette had no choice. They apparently killed off the mom’s gay ex-hubby (Richard Chamberlain) and it sent the mom into an alcoholic spiral. Lynette did it for her mom’s own good. In the end Lynette and her mom made up. I do hope they will show more of the mom, as she is hilarious. Also Lynette convinced Porter to come home, but I have a feeling even if Bob gets the charges dropped as she said he could, Mr. Schilling will still pose a big threat!
Edie threw Dave out and told the girls, but her news was trumped by Susan’s news she was moving out with Jackson. Edie was furious that Susan once again stole her thunder. Later the two got locked in a basement together and ha it out, with Edie making Susan realize she was incapable of being without a man. Susan, in the end, called it off with Jackson. Well we knew she wasn’t going to move out. I have a feeling we will see Jackson again though. They are clearly just working around Gale Harold’s injuries. As much as I love Susan and Dave, I was warming up to Susan and Jackson. I also have to admit seeing Susan just be on her own for awhile might be good too. Oh yeah, when are Susan and Edie just going to admit they are best friends? They have this love hate relationship on the show, but they really are each other’s best friends.
Mike felt bad for Dave and let him stay with him. Oh big mistake! Katherine meanwhile was being pressured to move to Baltimore to help Danielle with her child. However she clearly wanted Mike to say he wanted her to stay. Mike admitted to Dave he was falling in love with her, but he didn’t want to come in between her and her family. It was Dave who helped fix things, but for his own reasons. All this season I’ve thought Dave would go after Susan and possibly MJ, but now I think it’s Katherine he’s going to target! She better watch her back as Dave is coming for her. Poor Katherine, she just dealt with this last season (well 5 years ago).
The most recent episode was a celebration of the 100th episode. It didn’t advance the story at all, but was more of a treat for the fans. The town handyman Eli Scruggs (guest star Beau Bridges) died in the episode. All the women remembered how he helped them, from Gabby remembering how he introduced her to the girls to Bree remembering how he helped steer her into writing the cook book after Rex died. The show didn’t advance the story at all, but it was a great treat for fans to see the flashbacks and characters like Rex, Gabby’s first maid and Mary Alice back. An excellent show!
Was Eddy realy married to “Brandon/Days” or was that an add on? I don’t remember him.
We did find out that Susan and Orson called it quits so he may be wrote off the show. Remember she said she wanted to be alone for now.

Eddy has a son with someone, but I don’t remember if it is the same guy.
I enjoyed this and last week’s episodes very much. It was great to see how one man affected all of the girls’ lives the way Eli did. He was the last one to see Mary Alice alive and felt regret for that, therefore vowing to help the others.

I can’t recall if Brandon was in the beginning or not. That wasn’t who her son was with though, I remember that much.

I expect the 100th episode to be slammed in the entertainment press for being some self-absorbed, fluffball filler episode — but I hope not. I really enjoyed this one — more than the regular story lines of late. It was really touching to see how one person can play such a small yet important role in connecting and helping people. And the by-gone faces reappearing was fantastic. (My favorite was the pregnant Lynette having a meal with Rex and Bree. THAT was too funny.)
Thanks for reminding me what character that guy played on Days — I knew the face but couldn’t place it!
