Heroes: Back With A Vengence

Heroes: Back With A Vengence

So last night “Heroes” returned and kicked off the Chapter 4: Fugitives arc. From some of my friend’s comments, as well as others around the net, most seem to agree “Heroes” seems to be back to Season 1 greatness. Let’s just hope they can keep it going.

This show basically set up the storyline for the rest of the season. It’s been a couple of months since Pinehurst was destroyed and most of the heroes were trying to lay low and live normal lives. Tracy was working for the Governor of New York. Surresh was driving cabs again. Peter was working as a paramedic. Claire was looking at colleges. Matt was working as a night watchman and Daphne as a courier. Hiro meanwhile was trying to train Ando to become a hero. Sylar was trying to track down his real parents.

Nathan on the other hand was working with Homeland Security, his mother and HRG on a plan to round-up everyone with powers “for the safety of all.” We don’t know what he plans to do, but he caught everyone but Sylar, Daphne and Ando (who I don’t think he knows has powers). Claire he was trying to spare, but she was caught with Matt. She found out her dad’s plan and tried to warn Matt. He tried to send her home, telling her to forget everything (everyone had been brought and loaded onto a plane). She wouldn’t and snuck on the plane, freeing the heroes. The show ended with the plane crashing with all our heroes, as well as HRG who was in the co-pilot seat!

I thought the show was amazing, but was so frustrated! Nathan has become so evil and I don’t like that, as I really liked Nathan before.

Hiro still has no powers, which kinda stinks. Peter has his powers back though and it seems it’s the same power, he takes on other people’s powers. However he now has to touch them to acquire them, rather than see them used or have them used on him.

Matt seems to be developing a new power. The Australian guy appeared to him and basically gave him his power of seeing the future and drawing what he sees. I guess with him and Isaac from Season 1 dead, they needed someone to continue with that power. I guess they felt it would fit in best with Matt, though the whole “getting a new power” thing seems just a little odd.

Along with Nathan going bad, them turning HRG back to a baddie sorta miffs me. I like that he was turning over a new leaf. Sylar on the other hand should stay bad, and it seems he is for now. Likewise for Angela, she’s just better as a nasty.

It will be interesting to see what becomes of Ando and Daphne. Ando is tracking Hiro via a GPS in him. Also it will be interesting to see if they bring Micah back again for this arc and maybe that cousin who we haven’t seen in forever.

  1. I really liked last nights episode. I have been a HEROES fan this entire time and have been sticking with it, so I am hoping this is the beginning of something great again!! The last 5 mins of the plane was just great. The music, the sound effects…and I was hoping Peter wouldn’t fall out of the plane (even though I KNEW he wouldn’t). That is what great TV is!!!

  2. Grrr. I missed the show last night. Please remind me what Ando’s powers are. And what’s a parametric?

  3. Oops was supposed to be paramedic. My spell check must have changed it and I didn’t catch it 🙂

Ando is a supercharger for others powers.

  4. Someone on another site mentioned, and I think they might be right. That is seems Peter doesn’t retain all the powers. If he could still fly falling out of the plain wouldn’t be that big of a deal would it?

I have to agree, I really liked this episode. I didn’t really mind the past two volumes I just enjoy the show in general but this one seemed more ‘tight’ like they know where they’re going with it. Last volume kind of seemed like they were on an episode to episode basis.

Hopefully next week is just as good

  5. Yeah someone mentioned that in the shoutbox. I didn’t think about it till it was mentioned. I did wonder why he didn’t just fly out of the hole in the plane 🙂

  6. I was thinking the same thing the entire time, I kept waiting for him to just let go and fly safely away. I will say, I was really sad when HRG was shown to be with The Hunter, but it makes sense. He’s showed time and time again he’ll do whatever keeps Clare safe, even if it puts him on the opposite side of everyone else.

  7. And I meant to add, if he does in fact lose the power by learning a new one. I think it’s a good idea. Because it was to the point that he should have been unbeatable. His power was limitless if all he had to do was get near a person and know what their power is

I love Sylar, but it was one of the things about him I almost dislike. He’s almost to powerful, I was hoping they would have done this with him after he lost his powers make him learn new ones but I’m pretty sure he just retained them all when he got his ability back.

So, yeah I’m kind of glad if that’s what happen to Peter, because putting aside Sylar he’s on the same level as all the others now rather then leaps and bounds greater then them.

  8. Personally, I didn’t like this episode as much, I’m just not a fan of the round em up plot.
One thing that confused me. Peter was all depressed he wasn’t “strong, fast, etc.” enough to save the man’s life. Which alluded that he wished he had powers again. Yet, if all he has to do is touch people to get powers, why isn’t he seeking people out that have powers?

  10. I’ve seen on a couple different sites that people are against the s/l for this season, but if you think about it. It’s the only believable way they could have gone.

It’s impossible to believe they could continue to live without the normal population knowing about them. Now, while I’m not sure why Nathan would want to round them up, once he told the government about them this was going to happen.

People fear what they don’t understand, the idea that there’s a man running around the country who can cut peoples heads open, people who can’t die, or can freeze people. It’s an issue and they’re going to go after them.

It’s a storyline that makes sense and I’m going to enjoy watching them all actually work together, rather then be off and doing their own things.

  11. I still feel like Nathan is somehow being controlled. To me it seemed a little weird that Nathan said “How about a hug for your brother?” when that is what their father said to Peter before taking Peter’s powers. I still think that somehow Arthur Petrelli manipulated Nathan before he died and mentally convinced him that this was a good idea (like he did to Angela to convince her it was ok to kill Nathan). The only thing is, I think some of Nathan is trying to come back since he wanted to keep Peter and Clair safe. I have had a little issue with Nathan switching sides, one minute he was all about being a “hero” and then the next minute he was all about pinehearst and its mission. I really wouldn’t be surprised if Arthur really isn’t dead, considering that he had Peter’s powers and one of them was Clair’s and that who is ultimately rounding people up, with Nathan as his puppet.
