Desperate Housewives: No More Pizza
Posted by Dustin on 02.16.2009 at 3:52 pm
Much like last week’s episode, I thought this one was only so so. I’m kind of shocked too, as it’s February Sweeps so I expect a bit more.
Tom and Lynette continued to struggle with the pizza business. Customers weren’t coming in, he had to let all his staff go to make ends meet and they ended up employing their poor kids as the wait staff. This actually angered me, as it’s a family issue I have some experience watching go on. I’m of the mind set that kids should be kids and enjoy childhood, not be made to work in their parents business (which a child under working age can legally do, child labor laws don’t apply to family businesses in a lot of states). Kids will grow up soon enough and have the rest of their adult lives to work. In the end the pressure got to Tom, who almost beat Porter up when he wouldn’t serve kids from his school as it was embarrassing for him. Time Out Tom! After that he realized it was probably time to sell Scavos.
Gabby was ready to spend Carlos’ big bonus check, until she found out there would be no bonuses for anyone. Later Gabby saw Carlos’ boss out in public smooching someone who wasn’t his wife. The night before the wife was telling Carlos and Gabby how much closer they’ve gotten since Carlos had taken on a lot of the husband’s workload. Of course suddenly, Carlos has his bonus. Yup, hush money. When Carlos found out he told her they had to do the right thing and tell the wife. Besides, this amounted to blackmail and was illegal (Gabby talked the boss into giving Carlos a bigger raise than planned!). However before they could tell the wife, she blurted out they were planning a family and wanted Gabby and Carlos to be the Godparents.
Orson learned that Bree had given Andrew a raise, apparently a very big raise. This “raised” issues for Orson, who didn’t feel like Bree’s son should be getting paid more than him. As she told him, Andrew had been with her since the beginning of the formation of this company and was indispensable. Orson cried about how he had gone to college and medical school, yada yada. Bree reminded him he was not a dentist anymore, he was a caterer. Frankly I have had enough of Orson lately. He whined to be given a job, he whined to be made partner so he was equal to Katherine and now he’s whining for a raise because Andrew makes more money than he does. Bree needs to serve Orson a plate of cheese to go with all his whine!
Susan began her new job and was not spending as much time with MJ as she liked. She was further annoyed that Mike kept dumping MJ off with Katherine to do jobs, when in fact it was his days to have custody of MJ so he could spend time with him. Susan was also a bit insecure as Katherine was cooking all these great dishes for MJ, who seemed to take to them very well (because Susan can’t cook to save her life). Eventually Susan blew up, saying she didn’t want MJ coming to spend time with Katherine when he was supposed to be with Mike. Katherine dropped the bomb on Susan that Mike was planning to move in with her, so she’d be spending time with MJ whether she liked it or not. HELLO! I thought Susan had some good points, it was supposed to be Mike’s time with MJ, not Katherine’s. At the same time, MJ spent a lot of time with Jackson, which made Mike jealous and upset too, so I thought Susan should be a little understanding. I guess though as far as we know, when MJ was around Jackson, Susan was there as well.
Finally Dave continued to be mysterious and creepy, sending little signals to Edie something isn’t right with him.

Lipstick To Bravo Or Lifetime?
Posted by Dustin on 02.14.2009 at 5:50 pm
I was catching up on some news and came across this tidbit, which came out earlier in the week. I’m pretty sure I saw it on Kristin over at E!. It was a video blurb/interview with Lindsey Price, who plays Victory Ford on “Lipstick Jungle.”
While nothing official has been stated, the talk behind the scenes is should NBC not opt to pick up the show for a third season, it could end up on Bravo or Lifetime.
Thoughts? Bravo is an NBC company as is. I just don’t see it fitting in there really. I mean it’s become a reality network. Should “Project Runway” stay on Bravo (there is still a dispute going on) then it might work before or after that show. I know Bravo is already working on “Runway Clones” if or when they lose “Runway.”
I think it would work much better on Lifetime, as aside from “Army Wives” a lot of their older dramas have been retired.
Ghost Whisperer: Going Greek
Posted by Dustin on 02.14.2009 at 5:46 pm
This week’s episode of “Ghost Whisperer” I really enjoyed, well I enjoyed the ghost story part of it at least. The story involved a group of sorority girls having a hazing ritual for new pledges, one of which who ended up going missing. The missing girl was the sister of one of the current members.
Of course a ghost showed up, looking like the pledges did when they were being hazed in the woods the night before (in a nightgown and a burlap sack over her head), and she was blaming the sister for her being missing. Melinda and Eli thought it was the missing girl at first, but the plot thickened! It was the ghost of a sorority member who died in the woods decades ago. She was trying to stop the hazing, and decided the only way to stop was to let the girl who had gone missing die. She was still alive, but the ghost wanted her to die so the others would get in trouble.
Melinda convinced her that was wrong, and in the end the ghost led her to the missing girl. The ghost saw she was wrong about these two, they did care for one another. The one who was a member actually tried to make it easy on her sister, to help her cheat, but her sister refused and wanted to do it the hard way. In the end, everyone realized how stupid the hazing ritual was, and the ghost moved on.
I liked that the ghost story had a twist, that the ghost wasn’t who we originally thought it to be. That was good, very unexpected π I’m always happy when I’m not able to predict the outcome or solve the mystery.
What I of course didn’t enjoy that much in this episode was the Sam/Jim/Melinda stuff. There wasn’t much there, but basically Sam/Jim was becoming suspicious of Melinda. He knew she was at the scene when the missing girl was found, he saw it on TV (unbeknown to Melinda that someone filmed it and sent it to the news). She however denied she was there. He was left puzzled by this lie.
What annoys me more than anything about the recent episodes is the need to show us Sam’s face in some kind of mirror at some point. We get that he’s Jim in Sam’s body! None of us will ever forget that the show decided to kill off our Jim π We don’t need to be shown Sam in every episode as a reminder.
Shonda Says T.R. and Heigl STAY!
Posted by Dustin on 02.13.2009 at 4:06 pm
And here we go round and round with yet another “they’re going . . . no they aren’t” report!
Shonda Rhimes set the record straight at the NAACP Image Awards that Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight are NOT leaving “Grey’s.” Well that’s what she’s saying!
“That was a very interesting rumor … and it’s not true,” Rhimes told People magazine Thursday night at the 40th NAACP Image Awards in Los Angeles.
James Pickens Jr, who was asked about the rumor originally and seemed to verify it, cleared up the mess as well. He says he was posed a question (probably about them leaving) and was simply trying to congratulate T.R. and Katherine on whatever they were to do.
I don’t know . . . is this more spin to keep things under control? Damage control perhaps? Do we think George and Izzie are still planning to jump ship?

Grey’s/PP Crossover Event Continues . . .
Posted by Dustin on 02.13.2009 at 1:18 pm
Okay so the “Grey’s/Private Practice” cross-over episodes really kicked into gear last night. It was a two hour episode that went pretty seamless, with Archer and a pregnant woman with an aneurysm being the main players in both episodes. Other “Grey’s” and “Private Practice” stories also took place in their respective episodes.
The main storyline of course was saving Addison’s brother Archer. There were some hiccups with the surgery, and watching Derek pull out those parasites was just nasty! Ew I couldn’t watch! However he came out of surgery okay, but was convinced something was wrong. He ordered CT scans and was convinced he was still dying as he had tumors or something. Derek put him in his place, saying it was swelling that would go down, and he is and always would be an ass!
One cute thing that came from Archer being an ass, and apologizing to everyone for all the crummy things he did and never told them, was that he told Naomi he really cared for her and was sorry he’d leave her alone. Awwwww! I hope they keep Archer on the show!
The other main story was the pregnant woman with the aneurysm in her brain. Derek had to operate, but nicked the aneurysm, causing the baby to go into distress. Of course this brought Addison into the story, and she and Derek are disagreeing how to treat the woman and save the baby. Their argument looks to get serious next week. Almost to the point where it could damage Derek and Addison’s friendship for good.
Baily decided to fill out paperwork for a pediatric fellowship, and got come slack from co-workers who didn’t think she was pediatric material. The best comment was from Sloan who said she never smiled, kid doctor’s smile! She got upset and said she has a kid and she smiles, she smiles frequently. No she doesn’t! That is what makes Baily Baily.
Addison figured out what was going on with Mark and Lexie. Mark spilled the beans to Addison that Derek was going to propose to Meredith. Yet again more people finding out the secret before Meredith!
Owen’s fiance showed up and she was thrilled he was okay . . . she thought he was in Iraq still! Hmmmmm, what’s going on here? Owen’s been keeping some secrets. Yang overheard them talking and knows the truth. Owen’s not looking too dreamy right now.
Sam kept having asthma problems and when his inhaler ran out and was refiled, he dropped to the floor. It just turned out they used the wrong kind of inhaler and he was allergic.
George was FINALLY given somewhat of a part in this show. He figured out Sadie didn’t know as much as she claimed, and she would endanger people. George threatened to tell the Chief if she didn’t, so she quit. She somehow scammed her way into a medical residency program? She thought Meredith could help her slide by and teach her once she got in. Nice! She and Meredith had a falling out. Sadie wanted Meredith to leave with her and basically go party and travel, but Meredith said no. I have to say I did not like the way they just wrote Sadie off. She was always a bad-ass, but they really made her come off as a huge jerk. I also have trouble with the idea of scamming your way into a residency! I don’t think it is that easy, is it?
Alex was freaking out over the idea of committing to Izzie, as he had the feeling something was really wrong. Meanwhile Izzie was just freaking out period. The girl needs help! However she keeps denying to everyone that something is wrong. I’m seeing Izzie going down much like Sam did and very soon.
Finally over to “Private Practice,” basically Cooper and Violet dealt with a sleep deprived and potentially depressed mother that hurt her baby in order to quiet it and get some rest. She held it under the water in the bath! OMG! Cooper and Violet argued over whether the baby should be taken from her, if she could be helped and be a good mother. Clearly it was Violet’s motherly instincts and fear of being a mother herself coming out.
Charlotte meanwhile was jealous and upset and let Cooper know her issue. She got what he was doing, and that Violet was his best friend . . . however she was supposed to be his best friend and his lover, it was weird for her that Cooper’s best friend was another woman. She also hinted that she thinks he and Violet need each other more than they admit.
So I’m not sure what’s going on with the Cooper Charlotte romance. I guess I could get how she might be jealous, but oddly enough she wouldn’t be jealous if Cooper’s best friend was a man clearly. Also it seems like Charlotte sees the witting on the wall, that Cooper and Violet will ultimately end up together.
A good two hour block, I think we just needed a little more with the “Private Practice” crowd than we got.
