Eastwick Premier Thoughts

Eastwick Premier Thoughts

Hmmmm, I don’t know what to say about “Eastwick.” Did it suck? No. However why didn’t it suck? Probably because so far it’s just been a retelling of a good book turned movie staring awesome people. If you’ve seen the original movie, there is no way you can’t watch the show and draw comparisons. I have not read the book by John Updike, so I can’t even begin to draw comparisons to it.

If you’ve read the book or seen the original movie, there isn’t much I can recap that you don’t know. If you haven’t . . . . um at least go rent the original movie! The pilot/season premier basically just introduced us to the three main characters: Joanna (Lindsey Price) who is a newspaper reporter (aka the nerdy girl), Roxanna (Rebecca Romijn) who is an artist (aka the town slut -Cher’s character-) and Kat (Jamie Ray Newman) who is a nurse (aka the woman trapped in a bad marriage with a buttload of kids). Then there is Paul Gross as Daryl Van Horne (aka The Devil). (Side Note: Daryl is the only one keeping the name from the movie, not sure about the book).

Basically three women living in the town of Eastwick who have separate lives, don’t like each other, but come together one night and make a wish to spark up their dreary lives. Into town walks the devil who not only grants their wish, but sparks hidden powers inside of them. In this episode they meet the devil and realize they each have a different power. Joanna can influence men to do what she wants. Roxanna dreams the future. Finally Kat can control the powers of the earth (via thunder, lightening, earthquakes, etc).

Again the first episode didn’t suck, but I felt like I was simply watching a retelling of the movie. Where it will go, how it will deviate? Who knows! It will be interesting to see what they do. I did feel like I was also watching a retelling of “Charmed” in a way with the three powers. That and the fact that only one of the three (Kat) had a cool power (see Shannan Doherty in Charmed!).

90210 and Melrose Thoughts

90210 and Melrose Thoughts

Posted by Dustin on 09.23.2009 at 1:56 pm

Just my weekly thoughts on last night’s “90210” and “Melrose.”

Dixon’s new love story on “90210” was just too much for me. How Sasha could believe he was a record exec is beyond me, especially when he’s on a boat full of partying high schoolers that she was hired to DJ at? Something tells me she isn’t this stupid and knows who he really is, but is playing the games he is because maybe she does like him.

I hate what they are doing with Debbie, Harry and Kelly. The word is that the “affair” storyline is supposedly scrapped as Jennie Garth protested it. Let’s hope so! She’s the only original 90210’r that is somewhat regular, so I don’t want to see her character ruined that way. Given she’s supposed to be the guidance counselor, yeah it would ruin her character.

Teddy showed his true colors to Adrianna, but it seems from the previews she may return his feelings. I never really liked Navid all that much, but feel bad for him.

I loved Annie getting revenge on Naomi. How Silver could feel sorry for Naomi at all is beyond me though. It’s like she forgot she was a social outcast for most of last season, and Noami and her were mortal enemies at the beginning of the show.

Spoiler Alert: Next week is when Liam exposes Jen to Naomi. It should get good!

Onto “Melrose . . . ” The major use of Michael in this episode helped keep my interest. That and Boomkat, who I love.

The previews of Michael bringing Jane in to take over as the landlord is awesome! So does Michael own the building now? Was Sydney blackmailing him into making her the landlord or something?

Their backstory and faking Syd’s death left me confused. She acted like some guy from her past did this to her, and that Michael was in danger from this guy. Who was it? I thought Syd exploded in a car crash (and I thought Kimberly had something to do with it?). It’s been so long that I don’t remember.

I actually felt a little bad for that Jonah guy, he got screwed out of work credit and his fiancee Riley is a jerk. She clearly wants that Auggie guy and doesn’t want to marry Jonah that much, otherwise she wouldn’t have kept it a secret. She only announced it to her family and friends at the end after she kissed Auggie. Don’t get me wrong, they are still a boring couple though.

Castle Season Premier Thoughts

Castle Season Premier Thoughts

Posted by Dustin on 09.22.2009 at 12:02 pm

“Castle” is one of those shows I love to watch, but don’t always blog about. What I like is that each show can stand on its own, but there is a subtle back story and character progression going on. However unlike, say “Ghost Whisperer” or “Medium,” I find it’s one of those shows that and episode can stand alone that don’t have too much to say other than “really liked that one!.”

In the season premier though Castle and Beckett fans finally found out what the secret Castle learned about her mother’s death was. It seems her mother’s murder wasn’t a random mugging, two other people were killed the same way. They also all seemed to be connected (law clerks, a process server or something) and someone who oversaw all the reports on their deaths also mysteriously died 4 years ago.

Beckett wasn’t happy with Castle, she had finally moved on from this, perhaps she didn’t want to know, didn’t want to catch the guy and watch him walk on a technicality. However I think Beckett will be dragged back into this. It seems like someone in the department or system had a hand and made sure everything was covered up. Something is gunna happen to reopen this case I bet!

Heroes Redemption/ 4th Season Premier Thoughts

Heroes Redemption/ 4th Season Premier Thoughts

Posted by Dustin on 09.22.2009 at 11:49 am

As usual, this is mostly a thoughts post, as trying to recap 2 hour premiers (or season finales) is usually too many details for me to remember correctly I have enough trouble nowadays getting everything right with a 1 hour show!

I actually thought it was pretty good. I found myself really liking the whole “Dark Carnival” characters and storyline a lot. That was my favorite part, and I wanted to know more about these people. Clearly the leader guy is searching for someone, and it appears the compass they were after might lead him to this person. I believe it’s his brother. But why was Danko hiding it? Is he somehow connected to the carnies?

Hiro and Ando’s storyline was originally bugging me. I was afraid once again they’d be the silly comical storyline. However once Hiro got involved with the carnival, it seemed that perhaps his storyline won’t be completely insufferable this season. Sorry Hiro fans, but as of late he’s been the worst thing about the show in my opinion, well his storyline at least.

Claire’s story at school was interesting, but I was shocked at how quickly they killed off poor Chelsea Brady! Did Claire’s new roommate, little Gracie Sheffield from “The Nanny” off her? Something is definitely off with her, but I think she has a power she’s hiding. She was too good at Guitar Hero, which she claimed she never played before.

Matt going crazy over Sylar I am not sure about. Is Sylar somehow trapped in Matt’s brain? That’s what the show is hinting. Peter meanwhile is realizing something is wrong with him as well. Did you see all the clocks he had on his desk. I still think there will be an ultimate battle between their two souls per say over the body.

Finally Tracy and Noah have teamed up, and dragged Peter into their mess as well. Seems they will be the ones looking into the “Dark Carnival.”

Where is little Micah hanging out now, and will we ever find out about Traci’s third sister Barbara?

Heather Locklear Returns To Melrose!

Heather Locklear Returns To Melrose!

She turned down the job before, but now she’s taking it. Heather Locklear returns as Amanda Woodward beging November 17th according to Zap2It’s Korbi.

Something tells me unlike the 90210 regulars, Miss Locklear won’t put up with as a background character who is only used from time to time!

Project Runway: Pack Up Your Sh.. And Go!

Project Runway: Pack Up Your Sh.. And Go!

Posted by Dustin on 09.18.2009 at 4:29 pm

Last night’s “Project Runway” sure brought the drama between Johnny and Nicholas, and Johnny and the others.

The challenge was to make a dress or outfit out of newspaper. As usual Nicholas was running his mouth about how everyone else’s outfits sucked. Meanwhile he had nothing! I am tired of his mouth as this is a weekly occurrence with him, so I was so hoping this would be his week to go.

When Tim didn’t really feel Johnny’s dress, Johnny threw it out and started over. However he quickly seemed to give up and start doing crossword puzzles. When his model showed up he crafted this lie that the original dress got ruined by the iron. The other designers who heard this were in shock.

Fast forward to the runway. Nicholas and Johnny were both the bottom two. Johnny told his lie again to explain his shoddy work, but Nicholas claimed Tim hated the original dress anyways so it wasn’t good. Johnny however was sent home.

Now usually Tim is always like “Oh so-and-so, we are sorry to see you go . . . ” This time he coldly said “I’m going to have to ask you to go pack up your things.” The minute Johnny left he told the others that he was in shock of the utter fabrications and excuses coming out of Johnny’s mouth on the runway!

I don’t feel bad at all, Johnny did himself in. Nicholas, next week I think you’ll be gone unless it’s a challenge week and someone else saves you!

Oh as for the winner . . . It was someone who had never won yet. The girl that made the paper coat. I really liked it, but kinda felt Chris should have one too as his dress was amazing. Both were winners!

Post Note: I got so caught up in the Johnny/Nicholas drama I forgot to make mention . . . where the hell are Michael and Nina? I’m sorry but they are a much of “Project Runway” as Heidi and Tim, and without them judging . . . the show is missing a lot! I also feel without them there every week the judging isn’t as fair and balanced from week to week!

True Blood: Spoilers To Tide Us Over!

True Blood: Spoilers To Tide Us Over!

Posted by Dustin on 09.16.2009 at 8:42 pm

Ausiello at EW posted yet another interview/quote with “True Blood” producer/creator Alan Ball about what could be ahead. Stop now if you don’t want spoilers!

Not having read the books (but planning to hopefully this winter!) Ball may bring in a dark secret of Bill’s next season, that Bill originally returned home to recruit Sookie into working for the Queen! That could really piss Sookie off! (Again not having read the books, don’t know what the fallout was!).

In my previous post on the season finale, I linked to another one of Ausiello’s interviews with Alan Ball. Ball revealed the person who kidnapped Bill was . . . Hoyt’s mama? Not sure if that was a joke or not 🙂

Finally Dennis O’Hare has been cast as the Vampire King of Mississippi (again via Ausiello 😛 )

90210 and Melrose Thoughts

90210 and Melrose Thoughts

Posted by Dustin on 09.16.2009 at 2:26 pm

So I’m gunna do my usual “thoughts” on “90210” and “Melrose Place.” I’m not recapping theses shows as much, unless I really start getting into them. Last season I just did sporadic thoughts on “90210” because I was give-or-take with it through much of the season. Honestly, without “90210” as a lead-in, I’m not sure “Melrose” will even last . . .

First up, people keep finding the blog searching for answers on Ethan. Dustin Milligan is no longer with the show. Ethan was written out, he supposedly stayed with his dad in Colorado. Last season he gave up summer sports camp to visit his dad there, well he stayed.

Onto the show!

Jen is making Naomi look like a saint. What a total bitch! Poor Ryan is really in love with her, or at least falling, and she’s just using him so she doesn’t look like a gold digger to the rich men she wants to snag. Then there is Liam, who she just screwed around with and is toying with. He’s gunna burst and tell Noami the truth sometime soon, but Noami probably won’t believe him. How long before Jen blows Naomi’s trust fund and they are both broke?

Throughout the episode, what with the guy she killed and now the “sext” I was wondering how long before Annie attempts suicide? By the end of the episode though it seemed she got her mojo back, and the previews seem to show her going after Liam for real to get back at Noami. Go Annie!

When Noami really does realize what Jen has done, will it be too late for her? I hope Annie doesn’t offer her house up to a broke Noami again. Make her do the walk of shame back to daddy!

Dixon finally stepped up at the end and decked the guy who took the sex pictures of Annie. I was glad, as he was just being a dix.. towards Annie.

As for “Melrose,” well I felt the 2nd episode was way better than the pilot, but towards the end I found myself FFing through a lot. I still don’t know a lot of the names of the characters, but that film guy and his girlfriend . . . I’m sorry, but those two are so boring that I don’t really care if that Amanda-wannabe breaks them up. Seriously, they are a snooze!

The med-student turned call girl storyline is so overdone it’s not even funny. I get it’s an ode to Sydney and the original MP, but really this is unoriginal.

I feel the same about the new Amanda on the show, the publicist wanna-be working for Victor Webster’s character. I felt like they were shoving down my throat “Hey this girl is the new Amanda, she’s a total bitch okay?” The most amusing part of her story was that Victor Webster was playing a gay guy.

I did find the Violet girl interesting, especially the end twist where she was obsessed with Sydney and thought she was her mother. Is she? Sydney seemed pretty adamant she never had a kid. Again this is an overdone horror-storyline, but interesting (I can’t remember if the original MP did anything like this?). She’s clearly the new Kimberly, ie the looney tunes of the show.

I was happy to see a lot of Sydney, even though it was only in flashbacks. How long they’ll keep the flashbacks going is anyone’s guess. Honestly, without Sydney I probably wouldn’t give the show a second look. Sadly we all know Sydney is dead, unless the show pulls a classic “Melrose” twist and brings her back (which they may have to in order to keep the show around!).
