Grey’s and Private Practice: Season Finales

On “Grey’s Anatomy” final, Alex’s confession to Owen about what Meredith did backfired. Owen refused to name him Chief Resident . . . and in the end gave it to April! Gotta say I loved that, and that I can’t believe how much I’ve come to like a character that was so annoying at first.

The doctor who stole his Africa job returned and asked him to tell her not to go, but he told her to go to hell! Fear not, she’s going to be a cast member next season, so she’s neither going to Africa or hell.

Lexie clearly is still in love with Mark, and he with her, but he decided to stop pursuing her and let her go to be happy with Avery. She gave a nice speech to him that he got the family he wanted, now let her find happiness too. Bleck! I want these two together!

The Chief and Derek raked Meredith over the coals. She said as long as she did not say what she did, the trial was valid and could proceed . . . but they wouldn’t let up and the Chief learned she switched Adele’s meds. Because of that he only put her on suspension, rather than fire her. Derek wasn’t so nice, telling her off, that she had no concept of right and wrong, that he didn’t think he could raise a child with her . . . . WOW Derek . . . . as Teddy’s almost ex said to her in this episode . . . just get the hell out! Seriously are we back to judgmental nasty Derek? Was there no other way the story could go? I also think him telling Meredith off about Alzheimers of all people was . . . . I don’t even know how to express it. She’s the one who lived through it, Derek is just afraid he’s going to have to too. Maybe that’s where his nastiness is coming from . . . fear.

As Derek went to camp in the framework of their new house on the hill, Meredith learned she got custody of the baby girl. Alex, trying to make up for being a giant ass, said nothing to the social service worker about the trouble Meredith was in at work. It’s only a matter of time (next season) before that happens though. Meredith then brought the little girl home to an empty house . . . .

Elsewhere Teddy’s soon to be ex-husband Henry finally told her off for picking the shrink, but trying to remain his BFF. He told her it was too hard, he was in love with her, and to just get the hell out! Go Henry! By the end of the show Teddy realized she was running away from Henry, who she really loved, to the safe guy. She dumped him and chose Henry in the end.

Christina got the shock of her life, that she was pregnant. Owen of course was thrilled, but Christina didn’t want kids. Owen tried everything he could to convince her to have the baby, saying he’d even be the one who took time off. She said she wasn’t that much of a monster, knowing if she had the kid she’d love it and want to be with it. I think Christina’s decision was in part fueled by the fact that she’s lost control of her career, seeing Teddy dump her and losing Chief Resident. Owen meanwhile felt Christina was cutting him out of this decision all together and told her to get out! There was a lot of “getting the hell out” in this episode.

Christina of course ended up at Meredith’s house, and the two commiserated over the situations they were in . . . . roll credits!

Over on “Private Practice,” Violet learned she was having her license suspended, and the board was coming after the practice! The practice was told they could cooperate, or make things difficult. They chose the later. A lawyer advised them they could try and fight, or they could dissolve the practice and hope they would not individually be targeted . . . .

Violet talked to Pete about how while she enjoyed being a wife and mother, she also was someone who helped people . . . she needed that to be complete. Her book publisher wanted her to take a 3 week tour to meet the fans and promote the book. She wanted to, since she couldn’t practice . . . but Pete just saw it as running away yet again. Pete got pretty damn nasty with her. I got pretty damn furious with Pete! I didn’t see it as running away like she did last time. She was NOT closing herself off to the world, she was not leaving him or Lucas (in fact she wanted to take Lucas with her originally). What does Pete want her to do? Sit home and feel sorry for herself? THAT would make me shut down! He basically gave her an ultimatum saying if she “ran away again” they were done. She said he knows she doesn’t like those, and left.

Ironically as Pete was accusing Violet of running away, that is what other members were doing for real!

Naomi left for New York with Fife. He was going to D.C., but she suggested New York, where she could open an office and he could work on his federal grant funded research. Fife proposed, and she said yes. The actress tweeted that this was Naomi’s “final show.” The actress, who lives in New York, actually wanted to leave because the bi-costal traveling was too much. However she’s still listed in the credits for the show for next year, and there has been chatter they may try and bring her back every now and then as a guest. I really don’t wanna lose Naomi for good . . . even if I usually never agree with her thoughts and decisions 🙂

Addison flirted with Benjamin Bratt’s character in this episode. She met him at the grocery store, and he proposed she go with him to the islands for a two week vacation. We don’t know what he does, who he is or even his name . . . that’s what excited her. She almost went, until common sense clicked in.

Addison proposed that they dissolve Ocean Side Wellness, form a new practice and hire a consultant who can monitor them and help them keep from what previously happened from happening again (yeah right!). Something tells me the guy they end up hiring will be Bratt . . . who is a full member next season.

The final seconds of the show had Addison and Sam in bed, and back together. She still wanted a baby, it didn’t have to be his . . . and she felt she could have him and the baby, he just had to be able to love them both. Excuse me while I vomit! Just when you thought they were done . . . . they’re back! Then over to Pete, who alone with Lucas, collapsed and had a heart attack.

  1. I didn’t realize it was the finale, so I thought what was going to happen was that Christina was going to help with the baby and realize she wants a child. Then it was OVER?!?! WTH! I guess we will have to wait til next season. I would think it would be hard for Meridith to be friends with Christins if she had an abortion, just because she wanted to get pregnant soooooo bad. Poor alex, I actually feel bad for him.

Pete collapsing was a great ending!

  2. I wonder if it has something to do with her previous pregnancy? Remember she got pregnant to Burke and it was a tubal and she almost bled out?

  3. I thought it was insensitive that no one was concerned about any health risks after her last pregnancy…didn’t she lose one of her fallopian tubes from that? I do remember she didn’t want that child either, however, the situations are a bit different. Burke was just a fling at that point and she had just started her residency. I am not sure what is going to happen with her and Owen…I am just surprised he is surprised at her reaction to it all! She doesn’t exactly scream someone who is ready to be a mother. But I do think a pregnant Christina would be hilarious – I would love to see that if I decide to watch next season. I thought the finale itself was terrible and I could not believe how cruel Derek was to Meredith. Wouldn’t the FDA find it to be a conflict of interest to have Adele in the trial at all?
