Grey’s Anatomy: Solo Surgies!
The latest episode of “Grey’s” had the 5th years getting their own solo surgeries, with the attending only being allowed to step in should they screw up . . . or that was the idea. Only Meredith successfully completed hers on her own, though Derek STILL acted like an ass through it. He kept telling her she was doing things wrongs, she should do them the way he wanted. Also when she finished, he did not lead an applause as he had for all his other successful residences . . . another doctor had to start it. SMACK!
The whole thing ended up becoming a contest among the residents, with the loser having to teach all the skills labs for the next month . . . originally April divided everything up evenly. They wouldn’t listen to her though. None of them respect her, and I wish she would stand up for herself and yell at them. I really wanted her to take Alex’s surgery away from him, as he was such an ass to her and treated her like she was his resident!
Christina and Teddy both failing to remember the basics of their surgery, and having to have the surgical nurse tell them what to do, was priceless!
In the end, we at least got some progress on the Mer Der front. She confronted him, saying there would be a chance they won’t get Zola back . . . he would then have to decide if he wanted to stay married to her. He told her that all the things he hates about her . . . is also what he loves about her. It’s at least progressed, though Meredith too needs to stand up for herself. If Derek can’t stand by her . . . maybe he shouldn’t be with her.
The Chief resigned in this episode and Owen was named Chief of Surgery . . . what what what? A few seasons ago when he was going to resign, the race for Chief was this huge deal. Now it’s just given to Owen? What? I’m not complaining, I think he probably is the best man for the job . . . Bailey clearly didn’t seem to think so though! I did like that The Chief tried to get it through to her that he was not sacrificing everything for Meredith . . . he was doing this for Adele. He wanted to spend the little time Meredith had given them with his wife, not working.
The end with Christina and Owen getting ill from bad Chinese food was also great. I loved Christina wanting to sleep on the bathroom floor because it was cool and comfortable. Been there done that! Well, only it wasn’t food poisoning that had me there 🙂

This episode (much like the last six years of this show) drove me crazy. Technically I would probably side more with Derek if I was to read about their history but the writing/story telling makes me feel much more empathetic to Meredith. I also think that even before everyone getting eliminated for chief resident April was the best for the job but now she looks like an idiot. Why can’t they get in trouble for not listening to her??? And this may sound stupid but why didn’t the chief get in more trouble for tampering with the trial?

I think Meredith put it best last season, he is only ever capable of seeing things in black and white. That is why he always acts superior and judges her so harshly. I think it’s why he has a crummy relationship with others, most notably his sister, as well.
I don’t know why the chief didn’t get in more trouble. Maybe he punished himself to an extent that the board didn’t do more? But they did want Meredith out . . . but not the Chief? Shouldn’t he really be held to a much higher standard. Of course it’s TV, they have to keep both characters 🙂

I felt bad for Avery this episode. I mean he practice hard to prove that he could do the surgery and then Arizona guilt trips him into backing out at the last minute. She seems to use that a lot to get things the way she wants and it is starting to annoy me. I mean all surgeries have high pressure, if he doesn’t learn now, when? Christina and Teddy cracked me up not knowing how to do the “basic surgery”. I am waiting for April to just snap here soon.

I have to agree. There are certain characters that annoy me to no end. Arizona is one of them. She’s very manipulative but she always just acts cheery and happy about it so it’s not as noticed.
