With the fall season upon us, promos and info are finally being released.
The third episode is the one that will deal with Finn’s death. While it is said to deal with substance abuse, that may not be the cause of Finn’s death. The show has been fairly cryptic about how they will kill off the character, or if we’ll even find out how/why he died.
I had been meaning to post the very happy “Glee” news that Adam Lambert joined the show for next season, but now that’s overshadowed by the tragic news that broke late last night of “Glee” star Cory Monteith’s (Finn) passing away at 31. Cory’s body was discovered yesterday afternoon in his Vancouver hotel. An autopsy is slated to be conducted on Monday. The star was battling drug addiction, one of the reasons he was absent from the final episodes of the season. All that is being stated right now is that no foul play is suspected in Cory’s death.
So this week a lot of news has dropped regarding who is and isn’t coming back next season on “Glee.” I’ve fallen behind with reporting news bits, because I just have so much going on personally. My bad! I’m trying to get back to it, and this is one of those posts.
According to tweets from Ryan Murphy himself, Heather Morris (Brittany), Diana Agron (Quinn), Harry Shum Jr. (Mike Chang), Amber Reilly (Mercedes) and Mark Salling (Puck) are not returning next season as regulars. This doesn’t count out guest stints. Really, based on last season, the major loss is Heather Morris. I expected this though as the actress is also expecting a child.
Jamaya Mays (Emma) just got cast in a new CBS show “The Millers” . . . so her screen time will be limited too. Not that she was on all that much last season either.
The Hollywood Reporter has indicated that Melissa Benoist (Marley), Jacob Artist (Jake), Becca Tobin (Kitty), Blake Jenner (Ryder) and Alex Newell (Unique) all are now series regulars for next season. This seems to dispel the original rumors/plans/musings that the show was going to start focusing more on the originals in the New York/Post-High School years. It seems we will still be left with a very much split show between New York and Ohio.
Personally I was rooting more for an eclectic New York scene, with less focus on Rachel. I worry eventually the high school thing will be played out. How many times can we watch and root for them to win Nationals? I mean remember when Fame was on its 18th season . . .
I have to say, I wasn’t all that thrilled with “Glee’s” season finale this year. As I thought in my last post, it seems they will carry the current school year over in the fall. My guess is the mid-season finale before their 8 week hiatus will be graduation and nationals. Then when they finally return, it will be a new school year. I wonder if this is when suddenly everyone will be in New York?
Rachel auditioned for “Funny Girl,” and unless I blocked it out, I don’t think we found out if she got the part?
Britney got into MIT. She ended up pushing all her friends away and acting horribly towards them. After Regionals she confided that she got early acceptance and has to leave immediately, which is why she acted the way she did. Okay that is NOT what early acceptance means. She also hasn’t actually finished high school yet. This was the dumbest thing “Glee” has ever done!
We learned that Unique in fact is Kitty who was cat-fishing Rider. Zzzzzz, that was predictable. I was hoping they’d chose someone else. Also Rider threw a hissy over this and told The Shue that he’d be leaving Glee Club after Regionals. So long, I didn’t really like you!
Blain planned to propose to Kurt, even though Kurt’s dad and Sam both told him he was way too young. I guess this means that other guy Kurt was seeing will be gone? I actually liked him!
The Nude Erections won Regionals, which means they are off to Nationals sometime in the next season. Will and Emma also finally got married, in the choir room of all places. Emma wanted a no-pressure wedding. I think that was the only good part of this finale!
So first up is the big news that “Glee” has been renewed not for one, but two more seasons. Wow! Hopefully the shows writers have a plan that will not just be “The Rachel Berry Show” for two years.
There are only three episodes this season, and as they have yet to make it to regionals, I don’t see them getting to Nationals unless there is some miracle. Ryan Murphy has been noted as saying the end of this season will be different from others. I’m wondering if maybe they’ll draw this group of kids final year, and thus nationals, out into next season? That’s the only thing I can see them doing, unless they end up losing Regionals. That would be shocking too I guess.
“Smash” on the other hand is likely done after this season. The poor ratings and it being banished to Saturday has done it in. I hope we therefore get some kind of proper ending to it all.
Karen and Ivy not only reversed roles in “Bombshell,” but attitudes as well over the past few shows. Ivy has become the star of “Bombshell” and actually quite likable. Meanwhile Karen seems to have gotten a little too full of herself when Derek and company decided to give her friend Anna a bigger role in the show. Karen thought Derek was doing it because she rejected him. Honestly I do think part of him was, and with Julia coming in to help with the story I wondered if she to took her issues with Karen leaving out on Karen by making her part smaller and her friend’s bigger. Derek claimed it was all his doing what was best for the show, but then he took her main song away and gave it to the Diva character. At that point I did feel bad for Karen, even if she was acting like a diva herself.
We finally learned about Jimmy’s past. The drug dealer he’s involved with is his older brother Adam, who saved them both from a bad home life. However Adam turned to drug dealing and pulled Jimmy into the business and drugs too. Jimmy’s partner/roommate Kyle is who saved him from drugs and his brother.
After being rejected by Karen, Derek moved onto Ivy for a few nights, but now has found a new muse to entertain him. What a jerk! I couldn’t pinpoint who the new girl is. At first I thought it was Anna, but her hair is too long.
Finally Tom and Julia are on the outs. Tom got an offer to direct a new play, but Julia thought they would be moving on to do another project together. When “Bombshell” didn’t get rave reviews, he thought he might not get the offer anymore, and resigned to do the project with Julia. She however didn’t want to be his backup plan and decided to move on with her own project! She also seemed to be moving on with her friend from school, Scott, who is producing “Hit List.” Boo to Tom for letting power go to his head and becoming another Derek basically. Especially after how he propositioned Jimmy’s friend and partner Kyle! Yick!
“Glee” got really serious last night with “a very special episode” that took on violence and shooting in schools. I had read all the stories about it, new those who had seen it couldn’t comment on the twists and shockers, so I was prepared for anything. Would they actually kill someone off? I have to say when we didn’t see Emma for the entire episode, I was starting to worry up until the end and the reveal as to what happened.
This was a really powerful episode, and the acting all around was superb. I was however screaming at the kids half the time to shut the hell up as they didn’t seem to understand what hide and be quiet meant. Brittany in the girls’ room toilet stall was heartbreaking.
After what seemed to be an eternity, the all clear was given. There was no evidence anyone was shot, no gun, nothing! However metal detectors were installed and kids now had to have backpacks checked. It was assumed someone brought the gun to school, shot it, and got out with it. Will was sure the kid would eventually be found and suspended. This is when Sue said no, it was her gun, she would confess . . . and she did! She told Figgins given recent events she felt safer with a gun. She says it’s legal, and she keeps it locked in her safe. However she was doing her daily check when it accidentally went off, which startled her and she dropped it, and it went off again. She said she took the gun home, she removed the shell casings, she covered up the bullet holes with some moved posters. Figgins had no choice to fire her, and she knew this.
I knew the minute Sue confessed it was a lie, and I suspected she was covering and the only person she’d cover for was Becky. I thought Becky must have found her gun, so she covered for her. The shock was Becky brought it to school! It was her father’s gun and she brought it as she was scared about the future and protection. When Sue tried to take it is when it went off and when Becky dropped it and it went off again.
Have we seen the last of Sue? I don’t believe so. I think the truth will come out eventually. However Sue’s days on the show, and her role, definitely has been diminished this season along with most of the teachers as the show shifts gear to New York. Assuming there is a next season (I don’t think it’s been confirmed yet), it appears it will be set in New York.
What I liked about this story, with all the twists and turns, is that almost every side was covered. First it was thought to be a real shooting. Then it was the accident people fear could happen if teachers bring guns to school. Finally it was a scared student bringing a gun to school, and what can go wrong there. Obviously no solution was reached in the episode on what to do, it just showed a lot of different sides.
Also going on in the episode, Ryder finally learned he was catfished. During when everything went down he tried to call his catfisher who he’d only been texting before, and a phone rang in the Glee room! However as he was hiding, he couldn’t figure out whose backpack it was in. He thought he could count out a few people based on their ringtones, most notably Blaine and Unique. This was just a simple ring ringtone. I am thinking though it is Unique after all. She and Becky were my top two choices, and since we know it’s someone in the club . . . This storyline wasn’t resolved by the end of the episode.
So first up “Glee” was simply fantastic this week, even with Will being gone AGAIN. The lesson of the week was to embrace one’s “guilty pleasures.” Because of this the music was infectious as hell (Wham, Spice Girls), the performances were great, and the Abba finale was A-MAZ-ING! I even felt I was able to tolerate some of the newer kids added to the club. The whole Chris Brown backlash storyline with Jacob was really well done, and I loved his performance of Bobby Brown instead. I think it might be the only thing he’s done all season that I liked actually. Also Sam told Blaine he knew he liked him, and he was okay with that. He kinda knew this was just Blaine acting out after Kurt, and you could see they’d be moving past it all.
I also, shockingly, liked the NY storyline this week. Well what little there was. Brody and Rachel are done, for now, as Santana finally told her the truth about Brody. With Brody moving out, Santana got to move back in . . . probably at first because they just needed money. However they all became besties again. I wish they told us where Finn went after he decked Brody at the end of last week. The “here’s what you missed last week” into said he went to NY to become a teacher.
“Smash” I just wasn’t so in love with, and it’s becoming very predictable. Eileen tried to prove what Jerry did to steal the musical away from her, and even exposed his lies to their daughter to get some payback. Derek gave Tom his blessing to take over “Bombshell” and even use his numbers and choreography. Derek then went to work with Karen, who quit, on her new musical with the still boring wonder-twins. Derek could sense the one liked Karen, so he made veiled threats for him to back off as he gets very focused on his stars when he directs and it would be bad to break his focus. Meanwhile Ivy’s musical is closing, despite her best efforts to try and save it, so we know she’ll go back to “Bombshell.” At least it looks like we’ll only be down to two musicals now . . .
Comments Off on Glee Vs Smash: Weekly Musical Roundup
I really enjoyed last night’s “Glee.” The music was spot on and I really enjoyed it, well except for the Mariah Nicki mash-up. I once again feel the need to point out that a mash-up is not singing one line from a Madonna song! As much as I love Unique, all she kept saying was “Gunna dress you up in my love, all over all over.” There is more to that song!
I love having Shue back full time, and we finally got Becky and Sue back as well. The show was dedicated to feuds and set up a few mysteries and advanced other stories forward.
Unique and Ryder ended up in a feud because he refused to call her a girl. Meanwhile Ryder was involved with some girl in and online chat. It seems he’s being catfished though. When he asked to meet her, she signed off. Who is she? At first I wondered if it was Unique/Wade. But given they already have the Sam/Blaine crush thing, I don’t know if they will do another one. I’m wondering if maybe it’s Becky?
Blaine and Sue feuded because she wanted him to join the Cheerios. In the end he lost the song-duel and had to join. However he did so on purpose. He’s planning to bring Sue down from within once and for all. I wonder if this means they’d be writing Sue out if there is another season?
Finally Shue and Finn’s feud played out in a Backstreet Boys verses N’Synch mash-up. Everyone wanted Shue to forgive Finn, but he couldn’t. Finn decided to leave, and with some advice from Marnie it seems he may pursue a teaching degree.
In New York Santana was feuding with Brody. In the best number of the show she confronted him with “Cold Hearted Snake.” She knew he was up to something, but Rachel (who wasn’t pregnant after all) and Kurt asked her to move out. In the end she set Brody up, luring him to a hotel room to meet her as his client. She also had called in Finn to deal with him. Hopefully this is the last we’ll see of Brody!
My other predictions are that Santana’s performance will make it’s way to that Nazi of a dance teacher Cassandra at NYADA, and that will get her into the school. Finn meanwhile will find a teaching program in New York . . .
So it seems the love affair with “Glee” is over. From many friends on facebook this was made clear. One commented they were giving the show one more shot, another gave up episodes ago, one friend says she hate watches at this point and I made the comment that it’s that one show I just can’t quit.
This episode was yet another good example of some of the issues I’ve had with the show this season, and overall. First, let’s talk about the music. This last episode at least had some memorable ditties from the 80s. That hasn’t always been the case though. For many of the episodes the music has stunk this season. I don’t know when the last time I bothered to download Glee music was. I think it was either the Madonna episode or Rocky Horror, whichever was more recent.
Why does the show just ignore Tina? I love her, let her sing more! The “Hung Up” number she did a few episodes ago was the best part of that episode!
Speaking of Madonna, the girls mash-up this week was weak! They had one line from “Material Girl” inserted into “Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend.” What was up with that? Mr. Shue should have failed them.
The show within a show continues to fail. Too much time is spent on trying to mash all these separate story lines in, and frankly I don’t care about half of the new Glee kids. I’m also finding it very hard to feel bad for pregnant Rachel, because she’s just become so unlikeable. I know they will find a way to send Finn to NY to be with her, and that her baby will end up being his. Finn can do a lot better.
The stuff hit the fan this week when Finn admitted to Will what he did to Emma. Next week’s episode has Will and Finn facing off. At least it’s back to the original characters, which I’d rather the show focused on. I could care less about Brody the playboy up in NY, or most of the new Glee Club kids. I know they needed to bring in new ones for the club, but they could have just been background characters and we could have focused on Tina, Artie, Brittany and Unique. Don’t even get me started on Jesus Dreads.
Also ignored this season has been Sue and Becky, whose one-liners are what used to make every show. Where have they been? Why don’t they get a storyline? What happened to Beastie while we are at it?
STOP bringing in annoying new characters and focus on the ones we grew to love. Frankly I’d rather get updates on Quinn and Mercedes than watch all this Puck brother nonsense with Marnia and Kitty.
Dallas, Glee, and 90210 Thoughts in a Nutshell . . . .
Posted by Dustin on 02.17.2013 at 8:24 pm
So I am combining a whole lot of thoughts from various shows in one post in order to pump them out and NOT keep falling behind! I’m going to do the same with reality television this week as well.
Dallas
The Ewings can’t seem to catch a break at all lately. Rebecca got away with murder, having Cliff pin everything on his driver Frank, who took a cyanide capsule at his arraignment and thus couldn’t rat out Rebecca. Once again, how does the judge not see how well everything turns out for this girl? It drives me nuts! Poor Christopher! I was glad to see J.R. tell his son he was hanging on all of Christopher’s droppings!
Meanwhile even though Anne shot Harrison, Bobby took the blame for her. Then when Harrison woke up, he fingered Bobby! Seems his momma put him up to it, and they just want to continue punishing Anne. I wish characters on soaps could learn to use the recording devices on their phones to record people when they share all their secrets. Anne went to Harrison to get a reason out of him! Sure he made sure she didn’t have a wire on, but did he check her phone?
90210
I hate that they are destroying Max and Naomi, again. Make up your mind show!
Teddy demanding Silver use a surrogate was pretty harsh, and bringing in his lover’s little sister to be the surrogate? Oh hell no! Silver should have vetoed that. Shane clearly has some insane agenda with this kid, he has since he found out about it. He pushed Teddy to get custody. He’s up to something. Now it seems his sister has some past with Navid? I wonder if she was one of his dad’s underage “actresses.”
They should just hurry up and put Annie and Liam back together, as we all know that’s where their storylines are going.
Glee
I was not happy that we didn’t get the Will and Emma wedding, but somehow knew we wouldn’t. This show has never made it easy for either of these two. Will didn’t find out about Finn and Emma’s kiss, but he eventually does and it’s not pretty. For know he seems to think this is another one of Emma’s freak-outs.
At the failed wedding former lovers reunited, and others experimented. Quinn and Santana got it on! But it was just an experimenting thing for Quinn, because “all college girls do it.”
I was sad that Kurt and Blaine hooked up. I know! But after what Blaine did to Kurt, I was hoping his new guy in New York would treat him right. Now I worry Kurt blew that. Kurt at least opened Tina’s eyes to Blaine though . . .
Finally it seems Rachel is pregnant? But who is the daddy! And is her new boy-toy at NYADA a gigalo?
