Burke’s Departure On Grey’s

Burke’s Departure On Grey’s

I know Isaiah’s depature from “Grey’s” has people talking. It’s been discussed on here a bit, with some people upset he’s gone and others glad to see him go. A few more interesting quotes have surfaced on the character’s departure from the show.

Shonda Rhimes, the creator of “Grey’s Anatomy,” told “Access Hollywood” there will be no recasting of Isaiah Washington’s character Dr. Burke.

Meanwhile, Isaiah has told Entertainment Weekly that if asked, he would return to “Grey’s” for a cameo appearance.

  1. I think it’s a good move for them not to recast the role right now. Hopefully Shonda will see what a pivotal role Washington had as Burke and will recast him for the future. Maybe this is like a probation kinda time for him and hopefully… HOPEFULLY they will bring him back. I loved his character!! And i think he has spent time enough in punishment and “repenting” what he did wrong (hopefully)

  2. If they bring him back, I won’t watch the show anymore. They should’ve fired him on the spot, not let him continue on for months and months until the season ended to finally let him go. If the roles had been reversed and T.R. Knight had called Isaiah Washington the N-Word, he’d have been suspended and then fired IMMEDIATELY. So are the double standards of our lives.

As for his “apologies” and “repentance”: All empty. He didn’t convince any of the people he offended. He was simply being a “good dog” to keep his job, and then when he is fired he turns around and whines about what hard work it was being a good person. Good riddance. :/

  5. I agree with you Jess. I think that if they were going to fire Burke, fine….but at least give us loyal viewers some closer instead of just having him walk out on her and we never see him again.

  6. No, giving us closure was the whole problem. They decided to keep him around for EIGHT MONTHS after the way he behaved on set so that they could give us “closure” in the storyline.

When one of your employees calls another a derogatory name at the work place and then attacks another one, you don’t keep them around for eight months before you fire them.

ABC dropped the ball on how they handled the whole thing. They should’ve fired him on the spot, but chose to try and brush it under the rug instead so they could write him out properly.

Again, I hate to sound like a broken record, but I can’t help but honestly believe that if the roles were reversed we wouldn’t have gotten half as much closure with George. He’d have just disappeared one day between an operation and lunch, never to be heard from again.

  8. I thought Burke was leaving after watching the season finale. Then, I also thought George was leaving after he failed his test. But that was probably done on purpose so he won’t have to see Izzy on a daily basis.

I was getting tired of the whole Yang/Burke love story anyway. There wasn’t much passion, she didn’t want marriage and he wanted a devoted little wife. I couldn’t have seen them living happily ever after anyway. Maybe Christina will find a man who appreciates her independence???
