Desperate Housewives: Crab-cakes, new neighbors and wigs

The latest episode of “Desperate Housewives” I thought was just so so, but it served to introduce a few new/old characters into the story lines.

Edie found out she had crabs, which she gave to Carlos, who gave them to Gabby who finally gave them to Victor. Gabby played “nurse” to treat Victor’s crabs without him knowing, but by the end of the show, Edie had followed the trail of crab-cakes at Bree’s baby shower party to figure out what had happened. I’m pretty much just loathing Edie right now for what she’s doing to hang onto Carlos. Meanwhile Gabby needs to dump Victor is she wants to get back with Carlos.

Andrew was back again in this episode with a bigger part than the last one, yeah! He was peeved that his mother won’t let him keep the extravagant gifts his grandma Phyllis keeps sending. Therefore he not only helped the ladies with a baby shower, which Bree didn’t want, he invited Phyllis! Phyllis and Bree faced off and of course she found out Bree’s baby secret. She didn’t reveal it, but she did go spring Danielle from the convent she’s been hid in. It will be good to have Danielle home finally. Phyllis is getting on my nerves and she’s only been back for one episode. As much as I want Bree to tell the truth about her pregnancy, I don’t want to see her humiliated by the likes of Phyllis.

The painful part of the episode was watching Susan eat her entire foot upon meeting Bob and Lee, the new gay neighbors. She managed to say every wrong thing she could have. Bob seemed to understand she was not doing it on purpose, Lee could have cared less and was a snot to her. Susan then had to force them to like her, because she has an “everyone has to like me” complex. This of course culminated in the holding hostage of their pet dog, who got loose, to try and win them over when she became a hero. Of course she hid him in her garage, with all her open paint cans and pans, and thus disaster struck. When Mike opened the garage door, out the dog ran and jumped all over Bob’s 2000 dollar Dolce suit. Needless to say, the new neighbors pretty much hate Susan and Mike isn’t thrilled with her at the moment either. Bob I liked, Lee I loath at the moment. He’s far too stuck up and it’s clear he feels he’s just better than these people living in the suburbs.

Lynette and Tom continued to deal with her cancer. Lynette finally stopped feeling woozy and was ready to get busy with her hubby, but Tom couldn’t seem to get it going for her bald head, given her wig got torn and she had to have it repaired. Gabby convinced her to get another wig and role play a bit, which Tom got way to into for Lynette’s tastes. He later explained for him it was nice to not be with someone who had cancer, and through this whole thing she had not once asked how he was handling any of this. She felt guilty and labeled herself one of those “cancer bitches.” I was actually waiting for the inevitable joke or role playing of Captain Kirk and Veeeeeger, but I guess maybe they couldn’t get permission or the $$$ to pay for the mention? Or maybe it didn’t cross their minds.

Finally Aunt Lily came home to die, and she was determined to tell Dylan what really happened to her years ago and why she can’t remember living here, saying it was nobody’s fault what happened. That pretty much settles that she hasn’t been kidnapped and replaced. It’s now sounding like a huge accident, and I’m thinking Dylan as a small child killed her father and has blocked it out. Katherine wouldn’t let Lily tell Dylan, and she died at the end of the episode . . . . but not before leaving a note behind! Grrrrrr, I want to know what is going on and now!

  1. I agree this was a bit of a filler episode. I guess they are getting ready for sweeps and just needed to throw in a few more clarifying facts before the good stuff begins. I found Susan irked me this episode, the “everyone must like me” attitude has always bothered me – on TV and real life.
