Cashmere Mafia

Cashmere Mafia

So I’ve decided to add ABC’s “Cashmere Mafia” to the blog. I’ve actually really enjoyed this show, even if it does seem to be a “Sex and the City” rip-off. The show is about for business women living in New York. Mia is a publishing mogul who lost her fiance when she won the job they were both competing for. Zoe is some kind of a wheeler and dealer for selling off companies, while having a family at home she feels guilty she’s neglecting. Juliet is a hotel mogul with a cheating husband, who she found out has been having an affair with a woman in the city. She also just found out he’s financially in trouble and about to wipe out their bank accounts. Finally Caitlin is a cosmetics exec who has had trouble relationships with men, and recently found herself attracted to a woman. Now however it seems she’s found herself attracted to a man again!

Is anyone watching? What are your thoughts? I’m actually really enjoying it. It’s silly and fun, with a touch of seriousness. I loved that Juliet finally kicked her hubby Davis to the curb. I was also glad Zoe, in the last episode, caught her co-worker and his little office fling Katherine trying to usurp her authority. Finally Caitlin, what a mess she is!

It will be interesting to see how it compares to NBC’s “Lipstick Jungle,” which debuts in February and is actually based on the second book from the author of “Sex and the City.”

  1. Love the show, but personally the over-worked mother who wants and can have it all character type is just a bit to rigid for my liking. At this point we have no reason to like her husband or family, so the stressed working mom just annoys me, either you have it all and deal with the stress and being pulled in multi directions or just start making sacrifices. Love Mia though and her parents had me almost peeing myself.

  2. I have not seen last night’s ep yet, but it’s waiting on the DVR. I didn’t get into watching this right away but caught up last week. I was surprised at how quickly I liked this one. The characters are a good blend of funny and serious, without necessarily being as crude as the SitC gals were … er, Miranda, I should say.

This show paints a broader picture than just the women, and has a good vibe. I hadn’t heard until this week about Lipstick Jungle. Not sure if I’m going to give that one a whirl — the commercial didn’t look that appealing. But it’s gotta suck coming out of the gate second for NBC…

  4. Cashmere and Lipstick have perfect names. Cashmere is sophisticated…. as seen with the shows ive watched. and depending on how the take Lipstick, as it can come in any shade, we can expect trashy or classy… i’m expecting trashy based on the commercial

  5. Yea Im in total agreement, Cashmere has this great racy yet not trashy feel to it at times, but the Lipstick Jungle ads really make it look like a prime time soap and not a good one at that
