Cashmere Mafia: Dogs, Companies and Fashion Shows; Oh And That Lipstick Show

Cashmere Mafia: Dogs, Companies and Fashion Shows; Oh And That Lipstick Show

This week Mia began fostered a dog named Walter. Walter was only interested in sleeping and didn’t show much interest in her. She wanted to send him back, but finally they bonded when Walter chewed up one of her shoes. Unfortunately the people from the dog place came to take him back, and they didn’t feel she was a good fit. Once he was taken away, she realized how much she really wanted him and needed him. Yes yes, she got him back; but this was all a part of the larger realization that Jason, the guy she was dating, just wasn’t doing it for her. Unlike the dog, she could in fact bear to be away from him and didn’t want him around 24/7. Definitely an interesting way to come to the conclusion your not clicking with the guy you are dating.

Zoe, the super mom of the show, was now working at home having quit her job. Her former partner, who took all the credit for her deal and got a promotion, kept coming to her throughout the show because he needed her help. She gave him the cold shoulder. Meanwhile she became obsessed with her daughters science project, having to take over and make it the biggest and the best. Of course by the end of the show, she realized what she was doing. I was a bit disappointed with this storyline this week. I mean that little tactic has been done on every show I can think of.  What disappointment even more was her husband told her if she wanted to go back to her job, it was okay. WHAT! She should NOT go back to that place after the crap that was pulled on her!

Juliette was also dealing with company issues of her own. Newly divorced, her company has become the target of a hostile take over by some business mogul buying up all her stocks. Not only did he want her company, but her too! He kept trying to court her, but eventually she let him know her company was not for sale and he couldn’t have her either.

Finally Caitlin was put in charge of a Lilly Parish cosmetics show. She took a chance on using a new designer, who flaked on her and didn’t have any of the outfits ready for the show. He showed up with them in pieces and was going to finish them, when the show started in two hours! When Caitlin flipped, he told her that she was making it impossible for him to work and he was freezing up. She saved the day by having the models just go out in their panties and bustiers, with really flashy and outrageous make-up jobs and the tag line “It doesn’t matter what you wear, as long as you’re wearing Lilly Parish.” She saved the show!

Honestly this was one of the more boring episodes for me. It seemed to be missing the pizazz of the early shows. Meanwhile I have been watching the counterpart “Lipstick Jungle” on NBC. Some background. “Lipstick Jungle” is based on a book by Candace Bushnell, who wrote the “Sex And The City” book. That was obviously turned into a hit show for HBO, and Darren Star produced it. Darren Star then produced and created “Cashmere Mafia.” So there is some bad blood between the two, and if you’ve watched both shows, they are very similar. Unfortunately “Cashmere” got out of the gate first, that’s always a plus. I have to say I enjoy the women and stories on “Cashmere” much more. Currently Brooke Shield’s character on “Lipstick” is the only one that intrigues me. The other two characters simply annoy me!

Is anyone watching both? Your thoughts?

  1. I’ve seen CM more then I’ve seen LJ but the ones I have seen I have to agree I like CM more the girls on LJ just bore me Brooke is by far the most intersting as she has a real storyline. Issues with her hubby and some stuff I can get into the other two…aside from them both having sex i dont remember much. CM keeps me interested and i try to watch it whenever I’m home

  2. First, I think the dog’s name was Wiley. And I can’t quite buy MIa falling for a smelly mutt who ignores her. What’s that about?

I’m glad we got to see Caitlin’s other, non-potential lesbian side. They needed some more depth for her. Can anyone explain to me why runway fashions and, in this case, makeup make NO SENSE? I must not belong in fashion because I don’t get it at all. At least her make-up looked kind of neat, not scary like some I’ve seen.

Have to agree that this episode seemed a little slow. Where are they going with some of these stories? I want to see what Zoe’s going to do about that moron from work. (Although the soccer ball to the head was pretty sweet.) Seems odd we’re at such a crossroads so soon with this show.

As for Lipstick Jungle, I, too, am watching both shows. I think CM has more likeable characters and with 4 there’s more diversity and more story opportunities. But there just seems to be something missing from LJ — maybe it’s heart in the characters. The first episode was interesting but I swore if all the shows ended on such a contrived note like the first episode, I’d quit the show after the 2nd. Fortunately, they stopped. Not sure exactly why, but LJ doesn’t draw me in like CM, although I am starting to like Nico more now that she’s shown what she’s made of, going after the scuzzy woman with the crappy tell-all book. Oh yeah, and Kirby is SERIOUSLY YUMMY.

  3. I agree with liking CM better than LJ..The CM girls are more beliveable since they are in women in power. I mean Brooke is in charge of a motion picture studio & no nanny? I know she has her hubby, but come on….I can’t wait for Zoe to kick some ass w/that coworker….and just a side note…LJ has only one thing that CM doesn’t..and that’s Kirby…hopefully Nico will relize that her hubby is leeping around on her and she can dump him & stay w/Kirby and do a Demi/Ashton thing…
