It’s still 2 months away, but I’ve added a Summer Olympics section to ‘The Forums’. I don’t expect to be writing much about the Olympics on here. I’ll probably write about them on my personal blog if anywhere, as well as on the forum.

Feel free to share news stories pertaining to the Olympics, and of course when the time comes, discuss the various events.

Weeds Returns!

Weeds Returns!

Posted by Dustin on 06.17.2008 at 11:56 am

Showtime’s hit series “Weeds” kicked off it’s fourth season last night with a lot of big changes.

With the fire in Agrestic at the end of last season and Nancy burning down her home, she and her family fled. Not knowing where to go, she decided they’d go visit Bubby, Judah’s grandmother. Andy pointed out she hated Nancy, but Nancy said she loved her great-grandkids.

However upon arriving they found her hooked up to machines and near death’s door. Her son, Andy and Judah’s father, was there mooching off her basically. He was taking care of her, but selling her stuff off to gamble and buy wine. We learned that Judah’s father hated Nancy and didn’t want him to marry her, but another woman instead. He always pointed this out, even calling Nancy her name (Fancy), and Judah stopped talking to his father because of it.

The town they were in was right next to the Mexican boarder and Nancy met a Mexican drug runner and immediately struck up a business with him!

Back in Agrestic, the feds were closing in on . . . Celia Hodes! They suspected her because the house that guy (Matthew Modine’s character) “gave” her was found to be a grow house. She said the house was never in her name and she rented it out for money, it’s Nancy Botwin they wanted. She also implicated Doug and her ex-husband Dean in it all. When brought in, thanks to Celia’s daughter’s idea, they all turned on Celia and claimed she was the ring leader and Nancy was just some nice mom of two! Celia got busted!

I really enjoyed this episode and it looks like the “Weeds” I fell in love with is back. The first half of last season was too dark for me, the second half had improved. Right out of the gate this season it seems to be light and funny.

One thing I am upset about is the fact that Conrad, Heylia and Vaneeta are out this season. They will not appear and it’s not known if they’ll appear in next season, which could be the last. The creator of the show told Kristin at E! she is hoping for a spin-off of “Weeds” with them in it.

Following “Weeds” was Showtime’s new show “The Seceret Diaries of a Call Girl,” which apparently isn’t so much of a new show but something Showtime licensed from a production company who first aired it in Britain, followed by Canada and then a host of other European countries. The show is based on the blogs of a real life call girl in Britain. It was actually really good and funny!

Army Wives: Friends and Lovers

Army Wives: Friends and Lovers

Posted by Dustin on 06.16.2008 at 3:14 pm

In this episode, Claudia Joy was released from the hospital, but was having trouble dealing with Amanda’s death. She ended up losing it at the PX when they didn’t have any thank you cards, and then when Evelyn strayed from her sight.

Denise talked with Claudia Joy and told her how she’s really good of taking care of everyone else, but not so great about letting others take care of her. Pamela also talked with her, telling her about how when she was 15 years old her 7 year old brother was killed during a hold up at a gas station. She said death is always hard, but when it happens out of the normal order it’s even worse.

Claudia Joy went into Amanda’s room, where Michael found her. He didn’t think this was a good idea, he heard about her panic attack today. She got angry, thinking he was ashamed of her and how this wasn’t how the generals wife should act. He told her he was the one who stood there and watched their daughter die, he knew how hard this was. Emmalynn found them fighting and told them off, saying their fighting was making this worse.

Claudia Joy apologized to her daughter. Emmalynn decided she wanted to stay with Denise for a few days so her parents could work things out. She went to stay with Denise, and confided in her that she knows she reminds her mom of Amanda, and her mom loved Amanda more. Denise told her that was absolutely not true.

Roland decided to turn down Northwestern to stay and be with Joan. Joan however still doesn’t know if she wants to keep the baby, feeling her career is on the fast track and she doesn’t want to derail it.

Later Roxy ran into Roland and Joan and mentioned the baby. Joan was furious that Roland told his friends. She said her position had been compromised and she has to tell her C.O. about her pregnancy and she hadn’t yet.

Joan finally told Michael she was pregnant. He was happy for her and thought it was great. However she told him she didn’t know if she was keeping it, she doesn’t think she is. He was shocked to say the least.

Roland later came home to find Joan having morning sickness. She apologized for getting angry with him, but he said he was wrong telling his friends. Roland told her he didn’t want her to feel forced into having this baby. She asked if he’d leave if she doesn’t keep it. He had thought a lot about that, but these past few weeks have been so good between them. He said as much as he wanted a baby, he didn’t want to lose her either, so no.

Joan went in for the abortion, alone. Later we saw her sitting on the coach. Roland came home and she said she went for the abortion, but she couldn’t do it. She showed him a video of the ultrasound on TV and they bonded.

Chase returned home from his latest mission, and Pamela was angry with him. They had a talk, Chase says he has to leave as it’s his job, but he always comes back. She said they were a family whether he’s here or not, and lately she’s had to get used to being a family and doing things without him. She said he has no idea what she goes through when he’s gone. He told her that this last trip, he got the idea. He is used to her not being able to call him or him her, but when he heard about the bombing and didn’t know if she was alive or not, he was terrified. Later Pamela came home from work and found Chase had cooked the family dinner.

Roxy was waiting on word from Trevor, who had made it to Iraq. She went to see Betty at the hospital. We found out that Betty has stage one breast cancer, she’s not as close to death as she made out at the end of last season. She’s also being shipped off to the county hospital as she’s now stable enough and not army. Roxy wouldn’t have this at all.

Roxy went to see the hospital administrator about Betty. He couldn’t help her, she wasn’t army. Roxy pointed out this woman had her home, her business and her life destroyed by one of the Army, so they had to make it right. Roxy got her one more week in the Army hospital, then she’d be well enough to go home. Roxy planned to take Betty home with her, saying she needed the help with the expenses since she’s out of a job, and she could be there for Betty and Betty for her. Roxy wouldn’t take no for an answer.

Trevor meanwhile saw his first casualties. He was able to write home to Roxy, and sent her and the boys sand from Iraq so they could start a sand of the world collection.

By the end of the show, Emmalynn went home to her mom, saying she wanted to come home, and they had a good cry. Claudia Joy and Michael then had all their friends over for dinner. Michael told her that having people around made it easier, and everyone had a nice dinner.

In the Coming Weeks

  • Denise meets a new patient who flirts with her.
  • Chase is leaving again, and he worries how this is effecting the kids and him and Pamela.
  • Michael tells Claudia Joy that he not only misses Amanda, but his wife too.
  • Roxy gets a call and goes crying to Pamela that this is what she’s been so scared of.

My Thoughts
Joan continued to tick me off throughout this episode. First she railed at Roland for telling his friends because she hadn’t told her CO, now she could be in trouble. She still didn’t know if she would keep the baby because it would knock her off her career path. I just kept hearing “me me me” from Joan instead of “we we we.” This is what landed their marriage in trouble in the first place! What made me even more upset is that Roland told her he wouldn’t leave her if she didn’t have the baby, that while he wanted the baby, he didn’t want to lose her. I felt Roland was backing down from standing his ground earlier with her.

I was also shocked that she actually had the nerve to tell Michael, who just lost his daughter, that she wasn’t sure if she would keep the baby. Ouch! I mean I guess she had to be honest, but the situation and the timing sucked and just made her look even colder.

Joan went for the abortion alone, and that was probably the one time I felt for her in the whole episode. When the doctor asked if her husband was coming and she said no, I did feel sorry for her. However in the end she chose to keep the baby, which I felt was the reason for why they didn’t have Roland go with her. I expected her to tell him when he came home she kept the baby, and I’m glad she did. Roland said he would have stayed with her, but I think it would have changed their relationship even more than the affair did.

Roxy got her spunk back this week and used it to help out Betty. I loved when she went to see the hospital administrator and told him point blank it was someone in the Army who did this to Betty, so they had to step up and take care of her. Damn right! Loved Roxy for doing that and for taking in Betty.

Also at the end of last season they made it seem like Betty was doomed because of her cancer, but Roxy said she had stage 1 breast cancer, not stage 4. I can’t help but wonder if there was some changes made in order to keep Betty around? I was convinced by the end of last season she was a goner, either from the cancer or because of the bombing.

We got to see a bit more of the dynamics between Pamela and Chase, as she finally let him know his job was beginning to bother her. I’m foreseeing Chase getting out of Delta Force and maybe into another position in the army at some point in this season so he’s around a little more.

Finally the show did an amazing job with Claudia Joy’s grief, having her pushing away everyone close to her, yet in the end accepting the help and support from her friends. The previews however seem to make it out that there will be problems between Claudia Joy and Michael this season. I just hope they don’t take the predictable route and make her an alcoholic or something.

The Huff Over Heigl

The Huff Over Heigl

Posted by Dustin on 06.15.2008 at 12:05 pm

By now everyone has heard about this. Katherine Heigl, who plays Izzie Stevens on “Grey’s,” decided not to submit her name for the Daytime Emmy’s this year, even though she won for outstanding supporting actress last year. Her reasoning? With the strike, she didn’t feel the writers gave her enough Emmy winning material, and she didn’t want to take the opportunity away from someone who was given the material.

Well now the writers and producers are rumored to be furious with her. There are also rumors going around again that this all goes back to her wanting out of her contract with the show so she can pursue a movie career. This rumor has been going around for over a year now.

I don’t know if Katherine Heigl said this on purpose hoping to get out of her contract or not, but I really don’t think she was wrong in her reasoning. I mean let’s be honest here, what did Izzie do this entire season? Pretty much a big fat nothing. She saved a deer’s life, she tortured a man to try and win a contest and she put up with her annoying and complaining students. It wasn’t until the last two episodes she snapped out of the pit she dug and put herself in and finally took charge of things and well, became Izzie again. So on that front I don’t fault her for her reasoning. On the other hand, I guess I can see how the show would see it as a slap to them for a star to call them out like that, but they are the ones that gave her that material to work with.

Swingtown To Swing Both Ways?

Swingtown To Swing Both Ways?

Posted by Dustin on 06.14.2008 at 11:18 pm

Well! I just finished posting about “Swingtown’s” second episode and saying how after the initial episode the shock had warn off. It looks like the shocks have just begun! Grant Show’s character Tom Decker is about to swing both ways!

Of course, the biggest risks “Swingtown” will take in upcoming installments have nothing to do with home decor or hairdos. For example, when Trina Decker’s ex-boyfriend pops up around episode six with aspirations of rekindling their high school romance, he ends up bedding both of the Deckers.

If the current episodes haven’t launched protests and boycotts against CBS, this one surely will!

Swingtown Episode 2

Swingtown Episode 2

Posted by Dustin on 06.14.2008 at 8:16 pm

The show opened with Janet (the prudish character) having a fantasy that Tom and Trina Decker (the swingers) walked into her kitchen butt naked and started getting it on with her and her husband! Clearly Janet’s having some inner conflict going on. I just know by the end of this season she’s going to be the freakiest one on this show!

Tom was called into office and immediately thought he was going to be in trouble for bringing flight attendants home. That wasn’t the case, as all the higher up were basically these sexist pigs who though Tom was the big man on campus sleeping around with all the hot young flight attendants. He was actually offered a promotion to the Tokyo route, which he had told his wife if he was given he’d turn down. However he took it mainly because, as the big wigs put it, they wanted him on it because they didn’t want trouble to be caused by the other flight attendants he’s been working with and the women’s lib movement. Needless to say when he told his wife he took the job, she was a little miffed. She also warned him bringing co-workers home wasn’t a good idea, even though that was how the two of them met.

Meanwhile Bruce Miller had a good day at work and wanted to celebrate with Susan, but she had made plans with Trina for dinner, only dinner. Susan told Bruce what happened between them was a one time thing, they aren’t swingers. Tom meanwhile told Trina he also thought they were just a one time thing, but Trina said this was only dinner and they could have dinner like normal people do.

Speaking of dinner, Janet ended up making dinner for some boring couple that had just moved in next door. In reality she was jealous that Susan had become such quick friends with Trina, who she obviously sees as a threat to their friendship. She seems to be miffed that she’s not the BFF anymore? Janet’s hubby Roger couldn’t deal with the boring new neighbors and he and their son faked a plan to make it look like the son cut himself so they had to get him to the ER. Janet was not happy that her husband ruined her dinner party and got the others to leave, but he told her point blank they were boring and to work out her issues with Susan and admit her friendship means more than she’s letting on.

Meanwhile Trina and Tom ended up taking Bruce and Susan out to the Playboy Club to celebrate! There they met another couple (the guy was Mark Valley, the old replacement Jack on “Days!”) and they all had a grand time dancing underneath the disco lights with one another. As the show came to an end Susan found a business card in her husband’s pants saying they’d love to get together. It was from the couple they ran into at the Playboy Club! Meanwhile Trina seemingly has some issues with the swinging lifestyle, as it seems she is realizing she is getting older while the girls around them are getting younger.

So we end up with a quandary. The main swinging wife looks to be growing tired of it and sees herself as too old? On the opposite side of things her arch-nemesis maybe sees her life as dull and predictable and seems to want into the swinging scene.

There was also a side storyline involving Susan and Bruce’s daughter is getting involved with her English teacher it seems. Also their son continue his budding friendship with the girl next door whose mom is the town coke head and harlot. These didn’t hold my interest at all.

This episode was much slower than the pilot. I think the initial shock of what was going on and yes, that this was being shown on network TV had worn off. I’m hoping next week will be a bit better. The raitings for the premier were very high.

Believe It Or Not . . . He’s No Hero!

Believe It Or Not . . . He’s No Hero!

Posted by Dustin on 06.14.2008 at 11:41 am

William Katt will guest star on an episode of “Heroes” in the upcoming season, but this time around he won’t be a hero. He’ll play a reporter on the trail of Ali Larter’s character.

Ali Larter plays Niki/Jessica, this multiple personality super-strong mom to Micah. She was believed dead in an explosion while saving Micah’s cousin at the end of last season. A new personality is expected to emerge this season.

William Katt is probably best known for his role on the early 80s show “The Greatest American Hero.”

A Few More Heroes Spoilers

A Few More Heroes Spoilers

Posted by Dustin on 06.13.2008 at 12:52 pm

Spoilers ahead!

Kristin at E! is reporting that Francis Capra’s character on Heroes, Jesse Murphy, will appear for at least three episodes, will have a seen with former “Veronica Mars” co-star Kristen Bell (Elle), and is the leader of a gang of crooks.

Other previously reported spoilers include a hero shooting another hero within the first five minutes of the first episode, saying “I always loved you.” Kristin hinted it may be two stars playing tonsil hockey in real life. This would probably point to Claire and Peter (the actors are dating in real life), but given he’s her uncle, there is something incestuous going on there. I would normally say it is Mama Petrelli shooting Nathan, but Adrian Pasdar (Nathan) is married to the singer from the Dixie Chicks.

Claire apparently has dark hair, something to do with a futuristic vision.

Sylar will chop open the head of one of the show’s biggest stars in the first episode or two! To me this also has to be some kind of a future vision that will be averted, as I can’t see the show killing off one of the main stars in the first episode.

A long lost relative will make an appearance in this season. I think this has to be Nathan and Peter’s dad, who I’ve been conviced is still around somewhere.

Nick’s Mom Cast on Dirty Sexy Money

Kristin at E! is reporting that Caroline Lagerfelt will play Nick’s mom on “Dirty Sexy Money” for at least one episode next season. The show is currently filming the new season. The first few episodes are expected to be ones from the first season that never aired because of the strike.

Also, casting is said to be underway for Simon Elder’s (Blair Underwood’s) teenage son, who apparently does not like that his dad is dating Karen Darling.
