Grey’s Anatomy: Famous Docs

I finally got to see last week’s “Grey’s Anatomy.” I wanted to post some quick thoughts on this episode, which overall I liked.

The main story was that one of the Mercy Westers grandfather was admitted and he was a renowned surgeon named Harper Avery who gave out a prestigious award every year. Christina and others were trying to use their cases to do radical rarely used procedures in hopes of gaining his attention for the reward.

In the end though, it was The Chief who benefited most from him. They were old friends, and Harper also knew Meredith’s mom as well. Harper needed surgery and he would only let The Chief do it. Derek allowed him to go back to work, with Bailey’s assistance. They solved the dilemma (he had an allergy to a certain type of suture, which he never knew because he himself always had on gloves when using them). In the end Harper pushed The Chief to consider resuming some old research study he was conducting and that it may just be award worthy.

I really liked this storyline and oddly liked The Chief in this one. I think his drinking and the lack of power knocked him down a lot, and now he’s more humble. I liked the idea that he might go back to surgery and research for awhile, possibly helping to bring some of the loss prestige back to Seattle Grace.

The other story I liked was the one with McSteamy as well as Lexie and Alex. I don’t like the fact that Alex is still after Lexie, and I loved that Meredith told her sister that she needed to stay away from Alex because unlike him, her heart is in her vagina! I spit my drink out when she said that. Alex is after sex to ignore his problems, whereas Lexie is hurting over Mark and will probably fall for Alex to easily. On the other hand, I loved that everyone under the sun was basically pointing out to Mark that he had regressed to being the womanizer he was and to stop sleeping with every woman who walked into the hospital. I really hate what he’s becoming in the wake of his and Lexie’s breakup. I don’t know if they can ever get back together after all this bed hopping between them!

Mark however did have a patient, a mother who had been cared for by her daughter for years, that someone helped him heal in the wake of the Sloan baby incident. Mark understood the daughter’s want and desire to take care of her mother, but now she had to find a way to move on and realize she had to take care of herself. Though in the end, the daughter was thrilled when her mother go better because she had always longed for a life of her own, which she was finally getting!
