True Blood: Couples Split, Couples Reunite, Couples Die

As always, a great episode of “True Blood,” and Jason is back on top not only as the king of dumb, but for having the best line of the episode when he asked the just woken up Sookie, who hadn’t yet spoken “Do you have brain damage?”

Sookie and Bill broke up after what he did to her, but by the end of the show were not only back together, but having rough sex . . . rough being the key word. What was with them both strangling each other? Yuck!

Russell took major blows in this episode . . . and not in the way he probably would have liked! It would seem, based on Talbot’s (RIP) comments that Franklin is also RIP’ing. He mentioned having to clean his brains off the beds upstairs. Elsewhere Bill and Jessica killed a bunch of his wolf pack that Debbie brought to take down Sookie. Sadly Debbie escaped in the end . . . why didn’t Sookie blast the crap out of her? I guess because then there would be little use for Alcide?

Erik meanwhile got in on with Talbot, and just as he was about to take him from behind . . . he staked him from behind. WOW! That I was not expecting . . . and I really liked Talbot. He was funny. However it’s Erik’s revenge as he put it, for Russell killing his family. Russell sensed Talbot’s demise, which ironically kept him from killing Bill. I don’t think that was in Erik’s plan though, he would have loved to have seen Bill done away with.

I cannot wait to see what happens between Erik and Russell in the next episode! I think for the first time in this entire series, I really don’t care what’s going on with Bill.

Elsewhere, Sam’s mom came groveling for money, and Sam gave her some and sent her packing. Tommy meanwhile . . . he’s going to give Jason a run for dumbest guy in town. He not only wanted to pick a fight with Hoyt over Jessica, but later Crystal’s fiance and father (who came looking for her). Dumb boy/dog!

Jason meanwhile made up with, and then love to Crystal . . who had been beat up by her white trash family. In yet a classic Jason move, he went to see her family with a gun and told them not to come near Crystal again. Oh boy, so dumb! Also his “I’m a cop” line has gotten old, because everyone knows he isn’t. It was funny at first, now I just expect him to say it.

Lafayette’s crazy mama returned. She had a good line too because of her delivery . . . . JESUS! Which she shouted when she opened the door and Jesus stood there. Lafayette’s mom kept alluding to his power in this episode, which people were after. Jesus seemed to confirm there was something about him that was powerful . . . so wait . . . now Lafayette is special too? Aside from having a dirty mouth that is 🙂

Finally Renee showed up out of the blue, in Arlene’s dream, warning her that his baby boy inside her would be like him and finish the work he started. Freaky! Arlene finally got some help at the diner, hiring a new waitress named Holly. Little doe she know that Holly is as special as everyone else on this show! She’s apparently a witch and becomes a major character down the road.

  1. Loved this episode, so much action, but at the same time, so far away from the books. Takes really good writing to keep me watching and being able to seperate the two!

  2. So what was up with the hillbilly that Jason found eating an animal in the garage? It looked like a wolf, but someone else thought it was a deer.

Not sure if Franklin is dead – wouldn’t he have turned to a pile of goo? Also, would Tara have dreams about him if he was gone?

Did anyone catch what Hadley was thinking as she ran out of Sookie’s house?

I was starting to root for a Sookie/Alcide pairing since Bill was out of the picture (or so I thought until the last few seconds of the show – btw, didn’t Bill and Jessica need to be invited inside Sookie’s home, or does that only apply to the first time they ever enter?)

So, are Crystal’s family shifters too? Sam was sniffing them out and they knew that Sam and Tommy were shifters.

  3. Hadley was saying something like “I’m sorry, I told them what you really are”

I know what Crystal is, but didn’t want to spoil it. Plus it might have changed some from the books, who knows. For example in the books Debbie isn’t a werewolf, she’s a werefox 🙂 That’s a hint for you 😛

  4. So disapointed in them making Debbie a wolf. Her being a fox surrounded by wolves was part of what made her crazy and insecure. Just loved the Eric & Talbot scenes, got my attention to say the least.

  5. Side note anyone else just love Jessica. Her being excited to fight the weres and protect Sookie with Bill just made me love the character even more

  6. I am curious what direction they are going to go with the series. This season is incorporating a lot of different people and storylines from different books. The whole storyline with Sookie and what she is, which I know, is in later books. I think books 7-10. The Jason/Crystal storyline is also later in the books. I hope Alan Ball is not trying to jam everything into one season so that he can go in any direction he wants. On the other hand, that could be a fun thing too!

  7. Erick, totally with you. When Jessica started I hated the character, but I even loved her hissy fit when she refused to leave! I hope this show NEVER ends!

  9. I think the creature being eaten was a deer. Poor Jason is sooooo out of his league and depth with this one.

Until Sookie revolks her invitation to Jessica, Eric, Bill, Pam (and Franklin) any of them can enter. Given Russel doesnt have an invite, he had to stay outside….

I am loving Jessica, who in the first books was totally thrown away and forgotten to my knowledge. I also am going to miss Talbot he was cute and he was funny in his responses to things.

I cannot help but wonder where this season is going to go cause there seems to be no end easily insight.

Loved watching Jessica at the end feasting on Gus. That was so funny though so sad given Hoyt was so near by.

  10. Thanks CGinCa for answering some of my questions! Just a guess, but I think the authority (probably involves Nan – I think that’s her name – who was briefly shown on TV this season) will help usher along Russell’s demise.

I agree that Jason appears to be in over his head!

That Tommy sure is a little scrapper.
