ABC’s Once Upon A Time Pilot Thoughts

ABC’s Once Upon A Time Pilot Thoughts

So as I already posted, the pilot for this amazing show hit the web this past week, and I cheated and watched it. I plan to rewatch it tonight to pick up on anything I missed, and to see it on TV (rather than my netbook, which is where I watched it).

If you haven’t seen it yet, read this post AFTER you watch the show! I’m not giving too much away, but I don’t want to spoil this amazing show.

So the one thing I was unsure of from the pilot was whether the evil queen/mayor had memories in the real world as to what she’d done, or if like everyone else under the curse she too had forgotten who she was? She seemed surprised when Emma told her about Henry’s fairytale fantasies. But then again, she had the book about them all, which it seems is how Henry found out the truth.

If she does know, did she purposely adopt Henry, being he’s Emma’s son? If so, why? Just more punishment for Snow White and Prince Charming? She genuinely seemed upset that Henry had found his birth mom as it was supposed to be a closed adoption. She also seemed to want Emma to leave town, which if she knows who she is, makes sense. But according to Henry, once in town she’d be trapped like the others.

  1. OMG I love this show! I hope it stays around for a while. I wonder if that Rumpelstiltzkin (sp?) guy actually knows the truth too. I can’t wait to see where they go with this show!

  3. I found the show to be very interesting (a lot seemed to be adapted so far from a kid’s series of books, The Sisters Grimm). But I found myself wishing this was an HBO show (maybe because of Ginnifer Goodwin having been on HBO and because then there wouldn’t be commercials). I’ll tune in next week!

  4. By the way, I missed the first 10 minutes (started watching when Henry showed up at Emma’s house). Because I’m in Canada, can’t watch online at abc.com. Can anyone give me a quick recap?

  5. The very beginning showed Prince Charming kissing Snow White in the glass coffin and bringing her back to life. Then at the wedding the evil queen showed up and vowed to destroy their happiness.

They got the truth from Rumplestiltskin about the queen’s curse, in exchange for their daughter’s name (Emma). He said she’d return on her 28th birthday for the final battle.

Emma is a bail bondswoman, who doesn’t know who her family is and bounced around foster homes.

  6. Thanks Dustin for taking the time to fill me in! If I was Snow White I would have lied about the baby’s name (then again, how did she end up being named Emma given she was abandoned on the side of a highway? Fairy Tale magic at work I suppose).

  7. I think she still got the name Emma because the blanket she was wrapped in when they put her in the wardrobe said Emma on it. Maybe the foster home people decided to keep the name.

I also think that the evil queen does know about Emma. I think she adopted Henry to bring her back to somehow destroy her and keep her from winning the final battle.

  8. Aaah – I didn’t notice the baby blanket with the name on it.

I’m not sure the evil queen knows about Emma. She seemed pretty determined to have her leave town and she seemed surprised to see her in the jail cell.

I’m guessing that the mirror the evil queen was staring into angrily at the end of the show is her fabled talking mirror?

  9. I found it interesting and will tune in to watch another episode. I’m a big fan of Jennifer Morrison, so I’m sure I will stick it out.

  10. I liked it a lot. I think that it will do well. Though I know that some are going to complain about the constant switching back and forth between “fairy tale” and “real world”
