So “The Liars” returned last night, and it had been several months since Mona was revealed as A, and Maya’s body was found . . . The girls all did various projects over the summer to try and take their minds off it. However as Labor Day approached and they all returned for school, one thing was on their mind: the anniversary of Alison’s death. Her murder still hasn’t been solved, the the police seem content that it’s Garrett who killed her. The girls know better.

During a sleepover with the girls, Emily got trashed, and then went missing. The girls find her at Alison’s grave holding a shovel, but she’s totally out of it. The coffin has been dug up and opened . . . Alison’s body is gone! (Or perhaps was never in there?) Emily just remembers getting a call from Spencer’s phone, and was told to come here. Spencer never called her, but indeed someone did call from her phone. That meant someone was in Spencer’s house while they were asleep. The girls have to hide the shovel Emily had, and run for it, hoping they weren’t seen. They realize this was a set up.

Unbeknownst to the others, Hannah has been going to see Mona all this time, she wants answers from her. However Mona isn’t talking. When she’s there she actually runs into Melissa’s ex Ren, who has been working at the hospital a few days a week. Hmmmmmm!

Hannah is troubled by other things, and later figures something out and tells the other girls. They keep it from Emily for awhile, as she’s still messed up over Maya. However they eventually begin to put the pieces together. The hotel room that Mona had been hiding out in, which had all her evidence against the girls and Allison, was cleaned out the day after Mona was arrested. How and by who? Worse yet, Hannah finally remembered what was bothering her . . . along the back wall were several black hoodies like Mona/A often wore. So was there more than one A? They then began to remember the black swan at the party, that couldn’t have been Mona as she was with Hannah. They realize Mona may have been working with someone. Then the girls all get cell phone texts from “A who says they are back!” They also find photos of them at the grave site left in Spencer’s car. Someone did see them!

At the end of the show, Spencer went to see Garrett in jail. He warned her that she had no idea what was going on, there was so much more. He wanted to make a deal, he wanted Spencer to get her mom to represent him in his case. She said no, but he said he knew who killed Allison . . . and took her body!

My Thoughts . . .
I was sad that they actually killed off Maya. Are we to assume Mona did it? They didn’t say too much about her murder or the case. Everything was obviously focused on Allison’s missing body. I have to wonder, is Allison really dead? Was her body ever really in the grave? There were all those odd incidents last season where Allison appeared to some of the girls, and they felt it was as if she was really there with them . . .

Jenna was absent from the episode, but I’m sure it won’t be long until we see her. She was faking still being blind in the last episode. Will she still be trying to pull that con off? If so, I would expect she’d trip herself up sooner or later.

The return of Ren, and at the hospital, is suspicious. He could be working to pass messages between Mona and other A-Team members.

There are other questions we still need answers to. For example, who or what did Allison see the day before she died that spooked her? Who was her “A.” What was the Vivian Darkwood thing all about? Hopefully we won’t have to wait another three season to get some of these answers.
